By the time she had the milk prepared, all six given cookies were gone, with crumbs littering a small area of the floor. The children had those ever-messy oreo crumbs stuck to their mouths and fingers. They looked at the milk, then took turns sipping it. Both watched her curiously. When Squee took the last sip, he scampered over to Tam and placed a hand on her thigh. "Sleepy?" he asked, as though she was simply a new keeper, rather than someone that the two had invaded the home of.

Squee paused and pointed to his buddy. "Haw!" he introduced.

Tam was startled at the speed the two wolfed down their treats. Though, she could hardly be surprised. She'd probably do the same if she were in the right mood. She watched the pair, aware that they were doing the same, as they drank their milk. Oreos eaten and glasses emptied, the woman nearly moved to put the cups into the sink. But she was stopped by the hand on her leg.

She stopped herself from answering the question. Squee obviously hadn't asked her if she was sleepy. The fish child probably wanted to go to bed. Wasn't that the reason they had snuck into her garage? The introduction confused her more. It sounded like he was pretending to laugh at the other creature. She pointed at both of them in turn, confirming their names, Squee and Haw.

"Give me a second," Tam sighed getting up, she put the milk away, and rinsed out the glasses. "Come one." As before she motioned for them to follow her as she went upstairs. She had a bed in her spare room they could probably share. It was certainly big enough for both of them.

Squee nodded in confirmation, then took the hand of his genderless buddy and led him up after her. The stairs caused him to stop, however. He had seen people use them on the way, mostly in lit buildings during the night, but he had never used them himself. These stairs didn't leave the option of falling to get past them, nor of another way up beside them. He would have to use them. The young abomination seemed uneasy, until he watched his keen-eyed friend take the first step. From that point, the two slowly made their way up, amazed at how much easier it was than scaling an incline.

After a moment, Tamara noticed that she was no longer being followed. She turned back, hoping that she had been sleepwalking, that the two mutant alien children in her house were nothing but figaments of her imagination. She saw the pair slowly moving up the stairs, and sighed. The woman considered going back down a few steps to help out, but they seemed to be getting the hang of climbing stairs, of all things.

She waited off to the side, making sure she could watch the two, without being in their way. One all three were up at the top of the steps Tam turned back to the spare room. "Almost there, guys." She needed to brush her teeth again, but had nothing to accomodate for the other two. Maybe not even night clothes. Well, they were small enough, they could probably use a couple of her larger t-shirts. They would certainly cover better than the gowns they were wearing. "Do you want to change before going to bed?" She asked.

"Change? Can't. Not morph." Squee told her in a serious voice, not grasping that she was talking about clothing. He held a hand up and concentrated. "Shape permanent." he informed her, turning his gaze to her with complete seriousness.

Haw simply looked around, clawed toes flexing on the floor. Suddenly, it walked to Squee and nibbled his ear, causing the male to squeal and giggle.

Tam watched Squees' reaction, realizing, yet again, that she'd need to be careful about how she said things. It would have been neat to see him change into something else. But her imagination was taxed enough as it was.

"I'm sorry," Tamara shook her head. "I mean, would you like to wear something different?"

Her attention shifted to the mutants' ears. She moved closer as Haw played with Squee. The tags on their ears looked awkward. She pointed to the one on Haw's ear, as it seemed that Squee was the talker of the duo. "What's this?" She inquired.

Squee nodded at the question of wearing something else, then turned around. "Butt is cold." he told her with the most serious expression a child could have short of the one found on one at his dog's funeral.

At the sight of her pointing to the tag on his cohort, Squee looked at her. "Tag. Identification-thingy earring. Really ugly... has thing called tracker inside." His voice was squeaky, an accurate reason for his name.

Tam nearly chuckled at the child's answer to her clothing question, but decided to hold her tongue. Laughing or making any other kind of non-serious reply would probably not score any points with the children. She organized her thoughts, as she attemtped to find a neutral answer.

However, to counter her efforts, the answer to the ear tag question stoped her in her tracks. If the mutants were being traced, there was a high possiblilty that some authority figures would come pounding to her door at some point in the near future. There was no situation in any of the books, graphic novels, or movies she watched that had good results, when it came to something like this. The tags needed to go. Or the children did. This was going to bite her in the butt, no matter what she did.

"Can the tags be taken off?" Tam asked. That was a stupid question. Of course they could. But would it require using tools or something? Or could she do so with her bare hands?

After a moment, Squee reached up and pulled his out of his ear, tearing it, then offered it to Tam. "Off." he said, then screamed. "OW!" What a delayed reaction. He gripped his ear, whimpering and bouncing from foot to food. After a few moments, Haw joined in, thinking it was dance time.

(Damn! The internet ate my post!)

Tamara gaped at Squee as he yanked the tag from his ear. She had the slightly bloodied tag in her hand when the fish child realized that he had caused himself pain. Haw mimiced his companions' dance, making the woman greatful that the chimera mutant didn't decide to copy the removing of the tag.

"Come here, let me see if I can patch you up," the adult held out a gentle hand to the injured child. She led the pair to the upstairs bathroom. She gave Squee a hand towel. "Hold this against your ear, while I look for something, okay?" She put the tag on the counter, before rummaging through a couple cupboards. She bit her lip slightly. Hopefully, the tear only looked bad. She didn't have much in the way of basic medical knowledge. And there was no way she could take them to a hopsital.

With a small ammount of items lined up on the sink, Tam turned back to Squee. "Okay. Let me see what I can do," she said , kneeling so that she was closer to eye level with the hurting child.

Squee's skin above his nostrils was scrunched as is shoulders shook. Finally, he showed her the injury. It was thankfully somewhat clean-- he had torn it out quickly rather than stretching his skin and making a ragged edge. He looked near to crying as he looked up at her, large eyes pleading.

Haw tilted his head, then reached for his tag, fingering it. Was it supposed to be off? He started to pull, then decided it hurt too much.

Tam nearly sighed when she saw the extent of the damage done to Squee's ear. She could fix that. It would probably scar, without stitches, but it would heal. She reached up for some disinfectant and a couple cotton balls. She bit her lip again, looking at the bleeding ear. "This might sting a bit. But it will help you get better." She doused one of the cotton in the smelly liquid and cleaned the wound as gently, but as throughly, as she could.

She paused when she saw Haw handling his tag. The tired woman didn't need two injured mutant children at the same time. She made a stop signal with her hand, quickly. "Haw, no!" Tam inhaled deeply before continuing. "Let me take it off. But let me help your...friend first. Okay?" She wasn't sure what the relation the two had. She didn't believe they were siblings.

The black and gray striped cat entered the room, deciding that it had gotten tired of waiting for the occupied woman to go to bed. It sniffed at the mutant children, its tail lashing. There were strange things in its' territory. Were they friend or foe? Things that would give it treats? Or things that needed to be scratched up. It jumped onto the sink, sniffing at the items that had been laid out. It took special interest in the bloodied tag. It batted it a bit with its paw.

"Greymalkin! Leave it," she hissed at the cat. The cat seemed unimpressed at her ire. It sat, staring at her and the fish boy, as if he were bored with their activities. He meowed at her as she was carefully bandaging the inexpertly sutured ear.

Haw's face slowly rose in front of the cat, staring at her with its strange eyes. Suddenly, one clawed hand reached out and grabbed the cat quickly. It sniffed Greymalkin slowly.

Squee stood still, distracted by the cat. He had never seen a cat inside before... It was very strange. Then again, he had never been inside anywhere but garages and the place he had escaped from.

Tamara was finished with Squees' ear in time to see Haw grab the cat on the counter. The striped tabby had been grabbed before, but never by a stranger. And never in this fashion. He glared daggers at Haw, ears folded back, and his pupils narrow slits. He bared his fangs and hissed furiously. He lashed out with his claws, only to be stopped by the outstretched hand of his owner.

Winching slightly, she took the feline out of Haw's clawed hands. "Grey! Be nice!" She scolded the animal. Her sliced fingers throbbed as she scooted the cat out of the room. Graymalkin padded back to Tams' bedroom, while Schrodinger sat in the hall, wondering what the activity was all about. She picked up Schro, who was the more mellow of the two cats. She closed the door behind her, so Grey couldn't get back in.

"You can't grab cats like that," Tam said gently to Haw, ignoring her bleeding fingers. "They don't like it." She put the black cat down. The feline promptly wandered between the two mutants, sniffing and rubbing against their legs. He returned to his master, who knelt down and scratched the cat behind the ears. "Like this. Be gentle."

Haw stared for a long moment, then rubbed its hand on the cat's back, rubbing back and forth along the spine. It lifted its hand after stroking up, then stroked the hair back down and made a strange sound, almost like a purr, but almost... choked.

Squee smelled the blood and tilted his head. Why did the fuzzy small thing scratch the caretaker? He reached towards her hand and sniffed the blood. That was what it smelled like, huh? A lot like his. He licked slowly at one of the scratches, brows shooting upwards in surprise at the flavor. It was... delicious. He licked more.
