| Life for Broderic was simple.
He woke up nearly every day in the cab of his truck or in the back of it if the weather was nice enough. Then he would drive to the nearest town where he could clean himself up and buy whatever he needed for the day. If money was starting to become an issue, he would stay a little longer to pick up any odd job he could find, as long as it paid in cash as soon as he was done. He never stayed for very long; preferring to hit the road as soon as he had enough money to move on.
Brody was a man off the map, and he liked it that way. No ties to anyone or anything. For the most part, anyways. He knew that somewhere far behind him there were people who had stopped trying to look for him when it was clear that he didn’t want to be found. Occasionally he’d send back a note that said, “I’m okay” but never more than that. As long as there was still road ahead of him, he would keep moving.
Today was no different. Brody drove into the town he had stopped outside of the night before and parked in front of the first diner he saw that looked like it could use a little TLC. Places like this were always hard up for someone to wash the dishes or clean up areas that nobody else wanted to clean.
With a sigh, Brody pulled down the sun visor and examined his appearance in the mirror. His hair was starting to get a little longer in length, but a quick finger comb kept it out of his eyes. He’d have to stop somewhere soon and get it cut. Any more than two inches in length, and it started to drive him crazy. Other than that, he thought he looked fairly presentable. There were some light bags under his dark blue eyes and a day’s worth of growth on his chin. But his beard has always grown slowly and it was only a bit rough.
Grabbing his wallet off the dash of his truck, Brody left his vehicle and headed into the diner, a small jingle of bells announcing his presence. The place looked decent enough on the inside with a girl sitting at the till reading a magazine and a small handful of customers sitting at the tables. Just the kind of place that had all sorts of grimy things for him to clean.
A charming smile sprung up on his face and he strode confidently over to the girl at the till.
“Excuse me,” he began, “May I see the manager?”

| She ran her hand through her hair absentmindly as she listened to her sister go on and on about how great it would be now that they were out of their, "horrible home," as her sister put it. She didn't get why her sister thought the place was so bad, sure they were babied a little, but not too much, at least she didn't believe so.
Karie and Kylie shared a lot of things together: Their lives, their clothes, and even their looks. These girls were mirror images of each other, though their personalities were quite diffrent. Kylie was the more independent one that wants to always speak her mind and be free to do whatever she wants, whenever she wants, while Kairie was more of a dependent girl who didn't mind being taken care of and liked to follow more than lead, especially her sister.
"So, you hungry?" One of them asked the other. It was Kylie.
Kairie stopped combing her fingers through her hair. At some point during her sister's ramblind she zoned out a started to just stare off into space, and her sister now directly addressing her shook her out of her little spell. "Uh, what?" She asked dumbly.
Kylie sighed, she was sitting beside Kairie in a little booth at a diner they had stopped a, it looked a bit, welll, roughed up on the outside, but it was ok. "I asked if you want anything to eat now, we can get the waitress back or something," Kylie explained. Beforetthey told the waitress thy still needed time to think about what to order and sent her away.
"Um...are you hungry?" Kairie asked looking at the menu, "What do they even have?" She skimmed through the menu quickly, "Eh, a burger and fries I guess... no drinks?"
Kylie sighed, "I guess you're hungry if you're looking. You can get a drink if you want."
Karie shrugged and then bit her lip, "Ok then, I think I'll just drink water."
"Whatever. I'll get a burger and fries too, but with a lemonade."
"Cool," Kairie replied, "Are you going to ask for the waitress or-," She paused mid-sentence and looked up to see who had walked into the diner which was pretty low on people at the moment. Kylie looked up at Kairie from her menu, then followed her sister's gaze to what she was looking at and then back to her menu again, checking out what else there was just in case she wanted to change her mind.
"I'll call her over I guess," Kylie said.

| “Manager isn’t in today,” the girl replied to him shortly.
“Not in today? Managers are always--” he began.
“Look, mister. We’re not hiring bums off the street. Either order something or get out. I have tables to wait,” the girl behind the counter interrupted and abruptly snapped her magazine shut.
“Bum...?” he muttered to himself and glanced down at his clothing. Alright, so maybe his sneakers were a little worse for wear, and the edges of his pants were slightly frayed and faded, but the shirt was basically brand new. He was clean too! Definitely not a bum.
“I could be the health inspector, for all you know,” he continued to press, but the girl simply waved him off and walked around the counter to check on her customers. She was horribly wrong if she thought he was going to give up that easily.
Determined that he was going to be heard out, Brody glanced over the customers. A table close to the booth with two girls sitting at it looked to be a good choice. No food or empty plates at in front of them, so that must mean that they hadn’t ordered yet, and the waitress would likely be hovering around them.
Within a few moments he had taken a seat at a table and casually opened up a menu while flashing a lopsided grin over at the girls at the booth. Twins? Even if he walked out of this diner with less money than when he came, he was still pleased that he had made the choice to come in.

| Kylie finally closed her menu and called over to the waitress to come and take their orders. Kairie looked over at the guy that had just came in, he seemed like a normal guy, nothing too special. She brushed a peice of her long black hair, the same as her sister's, hair behind her ear and smiled back at him, for he had smiled at them first, but Kylie hadn't noticed.
The waitress made her way over quickly and Kairie looked up at her, she had her notepad in hand ready to take the order. Kylie told her what they wanted quickly.
"Is that all?" She asked, not too enthusiastic. Maybe it had been a long morning for her.
"Yes," Kylie answered and the the waitress made her way to where she would drop off the orders.
