Or, as some like to call them, Attention Whores, but...yea.

Well, I just have a quick question, what does everyone consider an attention hog? I mean, obviously someone that craves attention, but...

Well, you see, I think I may be an attention hog, however I don't like to put myself out there or anything. I'm going around around and doing things that'll totally put me out in the spotlight or something. I think of myself as an attention hog because I love to get attention? :p
Does that make sense?

Hmm, I suppose most everyone loves getting attention, but still.

So, everyone may just say, "A person that craves attention and puts themselves out there," but who knows, maybe someone else has a different view on this? o:
Maybe my own thoughts are confused? XD;

to me an attention whore is someone that not only wants attention, like we all do in some ways, but who actively seeks it from anyone and everyone.

um... im not sure what else to say without giving specific examples xD but that about sums up my view on this.

Yeah an attention whore not only wants and loves the attention but will do anything to get the attention; good or bad. I know someone who faked a broken ankle to get attention because everyone "forgot" about her when a new kid came to school. I think there are different levels of attention whores. Some just want attention and love it and whenever they can they get it and then there are the ones that create the drama around themselves to insure they are always in the spotlight.

I hate attention whores. They are all really annoying. Each of them constantly go out of their way for attention. They can be loud obnoxious and annoying and so many more things. I knew a couple when I was in school and they happened to be my friend. And boy was I embarassed to be seen with them and even near them. One of them would laugh out loud very loudly and it would echo throughout the halls in the school. And my school I went to had a huge open area for the cafeteria and I mean it was huge. She would be by the gym which was across from it and laugh, people all the way across it on the other side by the office could hear her and they would turn to look at us.

Another one became the town whore. That is enough to be said about that attention whore. Hehe she is easy to explain away. How much worse can she get but by sleeping with everyone and anyone. Thankfully I am no longer friends with either one of them.

There are various reasons that people become attention whores. Two of which are psychologically linked, and are merely chronic examples; personality disorders:

Narcissistic personality - Appearance of a social butterfly with a kind heart. Sees nothing wrong with their behavior, and subconsciously uses conceit to mask their low self esteem. So caught up in superficiality that they see nothing but their good aspects. Often cannot take criticism and will not change unless something dramatic occurs, or in their forties because of experience, retrospection, or possibly a decrease of pleasure from attention. It's really not known.

Histrionic personality - Drama queen/queen. Blows things out of proportion in order to garner attention from their peers most of the time; sometimes strangers. Sometimes succumbs to self-fulfilling prophecies in which their dramatic behavior will get them to truly believe that they are extremely hurt victims to whatever occurred, even though in the beginning they know the reality from the show. Are usually encouraged from childhood by parents who see the behavior as cute. See the video Green Bean Aversion for an example of a child who could become histrionic if their parents continue treating their outbursts in such a way. They obviously don't mind the green beans, and are only encouraged by their parents sweet voices and the camera sitting right in front of them. DO NOT RAISE YOUR CHILDREN IN THIS WAY.

And of course, there are the more simplistic examples of individuals in their teens to mid twenties (sometimes early thirties) who are merely going through what most go through: A desire for social acceptance, and fear of not obtaining it. And of course, the others who simply want to "have fun" and don't think about others because they're so lost in a good time. These individuals will merely grow out of it. And then there are some people that simply have obnoxious/loud personalities, and never "grow out of it" as you could say. These people just deal with social situations in their own way, but should no be mistaken for people with personality disorders.

The difference between the chronic and usual? Well, psychology and science can't explain it quite well yet; there are many theories. One suggests that the brains of chronic individuals don't develop fully until later in their lives; where some would grow out of this in their twenties, chronics either never do or don't until their forties. There is only some evidence to back this up; namely brain scans of chronics during this time span, and after they've recovered from the personality disorder. Their brain waves are often the same as those of children, who also act this way.

There are some other disorders and other theories on why people turn out this way, which I can't remember off the top of my head. ^^; I only watched the video once in psychology so I can't recall some of it. Sorry.

I feel that attention whores are called so because they attract negative attention. People can get lots of attention in good ways, but they never are called attention whores, because people like them. In order to get the "whore" mark, they must get attention in really bad ways.
