Training yourself to a certain sleep schedule will always overcome expected sleeping patterns. Take rats, for example. They're geared toward nocturnal tendencies, but can easily be trained to be awake during the day instead.

Like what Kacey said, I can get 4 hours of sleep the night before, spend the majority of the day exhausted, then be wide awake during the couple hours before bed. This is a result of never setting a strict bedtime for myself - or wake up time, for that matter - but might be the result of me being more geared toward night.

Nice! Audio production can branch off into a lot of areas, like you said. Happy I've always been interested in foley sounds.

24 karma points!

There have actually been studies done that show that little kids' brains are hardwired to get up and go to sleep earlier, while teenage brains are hardwired to go to sleep later and get up later. And yet high school starts earlier in the day than elementary school...If high school started even one hour later, test scores would go way up. And my school starts weirdly early, even for a high school, apparently. We get off the buses at 7:10, homeroom starts at 7:20. But we get out of school at 2:30.

I live in a relatively cold place too (Not only do I live in northeastern Pennsylvania, I live in the mountains.) but it gets annoyingly hot here in the summer. Not as hot as Florida, obviously, but it gets to be over 100F here. *melts into a puddle of goo* I'm actually borderline hypothyroid too, because EVERY female from my mom's side of the family winds up being hypothyroid.

@Mock Oh, awesome! I've got a friend who wants to compose/arrange/produce movie and video game music, leaning more towards video games. I'm planning on majoring in Music Therapy, but what I really want to do is be one of the musicians that records soundtracks. That's kind of hard to do as an only job, though, so I figure if I do get to do that, it'll be secondary.

I've heard of those studies too, Kacey. I love the idea of them, but I understand why they've been difficult to implement. Less time for after school programs, sports, difficulty getting children to school, and all the extra daycare needed for a society built around the average adult work day. Changing the times of the school would be simple, but a lot of other things would have to change as well.

Hypothyroidism is annoying. Mine is only slightly low, but my mother's is very low. I have something to look forward to. >.>;

I've heard of Music Therapy, but I'm not very familiar with it. What would an average work day entail?

An annoyingly unfortunate truth, Say. At my school, sports and clubs stay after from 2:30 to 5:30. As the sun sets as early as 4 pm in the winter, nobody would want to stay after any later, even if it meant school could start later. Most people I talk to say their school starts at 7:30 or 8, though...So I don't get why we have to start closer to 7. Other than the fact that the district uses the high school buses to then pick up the elementary school kids...If only they could switch the times, that way the little kids get the early bus, and the high school kids get the later bus shift.

I've got so much to look forward to that I've inherited from my mom...B12 deficiency, hypothyroidism, psoriasis, rosacea, weirdly sensitive/dry skin, this thing called an 'essential tremor' where my hands are literally constantly shaking (Most of the time, it's barely noticeable. But with my chemo, it's gotten really bad. Like, to the point where all the way up to my elbow is shaking.), and all kinds of fun stuff. My family's like an entire medical textbook. When we go to a new doc and have to give the family's medical history (Y'know, has anyone had cancer, hereditary stuff, strokes, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc.), it usually takes 15 minutes or so. As my mom's mother said, "If I'd known all the stuff I'd pass on to my kids, I never would have had kids." My dad's side of the family isn't completely free of stuff, it's just my mom's side of the family seems to pass along an awful lot more.

Well, music therapy is a bit different for every patient, since you kind of have to adapt to their needs and what they're trying to get out of a session. So with every client, the therapist has to decide what methods would work best, and what is age-appropriate, and what the particular client would enjoy. They wouldn't decide that dancing to techno is a good idea for an eighty-year-old lady who is stuck in a wheelchair. A session might include:
Improvising, where the client sings or plays either purely as they feel, or the therapist might give them guidelines or directions, like 'Try to include feeling at peace after you've been frustrated'.
Re-creating music is just what it sounds like. It is simply performing music vocally or instrumentally that isn't improvised. So sing-alongs, musical theatre, reading and playing from sheet music, etc.
Composing is another aspect that a therapist might help a client with. Most people who go to music therapists aren't going to know how to compose properly, and that's fine. The therapist takes care of the technical aspects, such as notation and harmonization (when necessary) and the client creates the melody (and words, if they feel like it) and dictates it to them.
Listening is the other main aspect of most music therapy sessions. I'd actually refer to this as 'Listen and React' because yes, the client listens to live or prerecorded music, but then they react to it in some way. Some people meditate, others do free-movement, story-telling, interpretation, drawing, and so on.
Music therapy isn't just music, as some people feel more comfortable using the listen-and-react method, and responding to the music through nonmusical arts, like drawing or painting.

It is, but everyone is very busy with school at the moment. Give it a week and a lot of people will probably be coming back.
