| It was a gorgeous day in the Spring. The temperature outside was perfect, there was a breeze, the sun was setting to give a gorgeous shade of orange to the sky that drifted to more of a purple as it got farther from the sun. Everything seemed perfect. even the birds in the area were singing rather cheery songs to one another.
It was perfect, until a scream tore through the air, and the sound of something metallic hitting something solid echoed throughout the air.

It was about an hour later, after that horrific audio, and the local Emergency Room was busy, as always, when a young woman was brought in. Immediately, the current staff moved her to one of the private rooms in the area, so as to be able to actually take care of her privately.
The head nurse that was working at the moment followed the paramedics into the room and sighed before walking out again. She knew that they were rather understaffed that night, since one of the Doctor's that was supposed to work hadn't been able to show due to a family emergency.
"I would rather not bog him down with this, but I fear that I must." the head nurse said quietly before she made her way to the desk in the ward and picked up the phone. She dialed in one of the extensions and waited for him to answer, hoping that he was in. For all she knew, he could be taking a break at the moment, or with a patient, but she was hoping he wasn't.
"Come on Doctor Calder... pick up. We need you down here..." she said quietly as she waited.

| The phone rang for about 10 seconds, before it was answered.
"Yes, this is Dr. Calder." a male voice replied.
"How can I help you?" he asked.

| "There was an accident on the interstate and we are swamped at the moment. Do you think it would be at all possible for you to come and help us out?" The nurse asked.
"Plus, we have someone here that ... I'm pretty sure it would be best if you were the one to look over her, considering the sheer amount of damage."

| There was a sigh on the other side of the phone.
"I'll be right there." he said to her, before hanging up.
Sure enough, about a minute later, had had arrived in the ER, a serious look in the eyes behind his glasses.
"Alright, nurse." he said.
"Show me to where my presence is needed."

| She led him towards the private room that Kalin was in.
"Here." She said as she opened the door for him. As he walked in, she followed... listing all that they knew of what had happened to the poor redhead.

| He took it all in, shaking his head.
"Well, then it would seem that we have little time to waste." he said, as he checked Kalin over.
"This girl needs surgery, and she needs it 5 minutes ago." he told her. "Prep an operating room immediately."

| The nurse nodded before leaving to do as she was told, thus leaving him with the girl, who looked no older than 18.

| He looked her over once more, before sighing deeply.
"You poor thing..." he said as he gently ran his fingers through her red hair.
"I'll never under why humans always have to hurt each other, no matter the means, whether it be on purpose or accident." he mused.

| It was a few hours later when the redhead awoke.
She tried to sit up, but found she had some difficulty with that 'cause of the iv's and such, before just sighing and giving up.
"Ugh.. the hell happened...?" She asked the air.

| "That's a good question." a male voice replied, as he stepped in, having just heard her ask her question.
"Seems you were jumped and assaulted earlier." he told her.
"You're lucky we got you here in time, you almost didn't make it."

"Ugh, fuckers must have gotten the best of me this time." She growled.
"Anyway, can you unhook me from whatever the hell it is I'm hooked up to, and let me go?" She asked

| "Um, no, not for a while." he replied.
"With what we had to do for you, I'd be surprised if you were out of here within a month." he continued.
"You're stable, yes, but still in rough condition."

"A ... A month...?" She asked, almost sounding scared.
"No... I can't!"

"Something wrong?" he asked her.
"I assure you, you'll have the best care available, and you will get better without a hitch." he assured the girl.

| "I can't afford a stay that long!" She told him, desperation in her voice.
"I have to go, I can't sta--" She started before coughing violently, making it rather apparent that there had been some damage done to her throat that she needed to let heal.
