| My dear Midoreans,
In my days of roleplaying, I have come across many stories that ran dry. Though I do realize that it is the characters and their masters that power the plot, I'm not interested in joining something that will soon turn sour.
But I am very happy with the way that I am treated here, and I feel that a return to roleplay may be worthwhile.
I've felt that School/Academy and Supernatural Vampire/Werewolf type RPs are just running the same track again and again. And I find the quality goes down quickly.
And so here I would like to propose a few ideas which I would like your opinion on before I expand on them and start a topic. I'm not a writer, nor an expert on RP so please bear with me C:

| Concept #1: [temp name] Sanctum Ends in Twelve Tolls of the Bell
Plot:
Quote: |
Inside the cathedral at the center of the city, the altar boy waves incense, the religious come to pray, a few rogues claim sanctuary from the guards outside, and the young and overworked priest cares for them all.
One day, a blinding light descends upon the city and all is wiped out; except for the church.
Is it religious protection? Is it luck?
The light now strikes through the windows and cracks under doors. Wait too long and a being of light will have entered, ready to hunt down the last living beings.
However, looking through the windows, there are snatches of scenes from other worlds. And maybe for a few seconds, a bridge towards it.
Twelve tolls of the bell until the light will have fully pervaded the building. Will you run for the new lands? Or wait it out to see what the light brings?
May your legs be swift, or your faith be strong. |
Notes:
Quote: |
Partly inspired by the Hunchback of Notre Dame. A bit Narnia too, what with the glimpses of other worlds.
The religion is mostly based on Christianity just because it would be easier to translate; we all know basically what it's about, right? However, I will add in little differences so that it will help to actually feel like another world. For example, the bell rings every midnight [yes, it's such a good idea because everyone wants to sleep lol] so that means you have twelve days, not just twelve hours.
I chose to use a church building because it means that the characters have a confined space to be in and therefore will have more restriction in where people go. [oh and that reminds me of Doctor Who again, what with the episode where Rose tries to save her father]
The twelve tolls also give the story a structured timeline and so means that the goal is for a definite end. I can change the title every time the bell rings from twelve to eleven, ten, nine, etc.
I can seriously see this as a mediocre movie right about now. |
Concept #2: As If In A Dream
Plot:
Quote: |
Few people end up in the Dream. But among them are paranormal experts hoping for an out-of-body experience, tragic comatose hospital patients, the mentally unstable, and those who have fallen through the cracks in the world by other means.
Some such as the paranormal freaks and the insane are able to come and go quite often. They call this 'logging in' and 'disconnected'. Others are not so fortunate and are stuck within the realm of the Dream.
The Dream is an area of space that changes every so often and is defined by the position of the group of dreamers. Trying to run away is impossible as you will find yourself running back to your group.
Once in the Dream, you may find yourself changed, as your mental persona may be different from what you physically look like.
But not only does your self image appear, so do your inner demons. Nightmares long-forgotten, guilt, regret. And who knows what form they will take?
For the ones trapped within the Dream, they must find the key to open the door back to the real world. For those entering of their own accord, they must help the trapped ones or else they may find themselves logging into the Dream every time they sleep.
|
Notes:
Quote: |
Partly inspired by The Golden City, The Lovely Bones, and some other similar things that I can't remember.
Something psychological. I thought it would be interesting with people trying to escape, but not wanting others to escape, such as the insane ones who could be psycho killers in RL. |
Concept #3: Run Rabbit Run
Plot:
Quote: |
LFAS, the Lake Finnian Academy of Science, is a University located in the heart of the mountains. Though it is the source of many scientific advances, it has been unheard from in the last century and was slowly forgotten.
However, past students who had received education there also received the chance to send their progeny in as well.
One day you receive a letter from the LFAS, post-dated to be sent to you and courtesy of your great-grandparent. Few other students have also been receiving these letters of admission.
However, soon after your arrival you begin to realise that there are other things inside the school. Before you have a chance to do anything about it, a mighty earthquake destroys all the entrances, and whatever the professors were hiding in the basement are escaped and running wild within the school and the forest outside.
With nothing to defend yourself, and no knowledge of other survivors, you're going to have to find an exit and make a run to the train that will take you back to the city. |
Notes:
Quote: |
Sort of Based off of a CYOA game I made which was based off of my high school and slightly inspired by the feel of Amnesia: the Dark Descent. But i put a bit more Amnesia sort of feeling in this rp idea.
This one shall be more of a horror. Oh wait, aren't those other ideas pretty horrific ? O___O
I said I disliked Academy settings, but there isn't going to much of a school-type structure to this story. Mostly just running away and not dying C:
This is set in what would be the equivalent to the 1900s, but in a different world. That will mean that there will be restrictions to what characters can use, but since it's a different world, it can allow for a few mistakes. |
Concept #4: The Grey Peoples come to the Iiwagi
Plot:
Quote: |
Up in the misty Iirun mountains is the Diagal tribe. As the religious hub and centre point to the other three tribes [the Ruga of the Forest, the Adu on the coast, and the Aibagi of the river.], many other tribe members travel the bejeweled cave path to join in the magics taking place on the top of the mountain.
Every four years, a great festival, the Iiwagi, is made for nine days in the Diagal village. All four tribes gather there to celebrate and strengthen their bonds of peace, as well as pay respect to the forces of nature and pray for good fortune.
But during a year of many rains and storms, the festival is doused in a roaring thunderstorm. On the sixth day of the Iiwagi, the weather finally clears up and warriors from the Adu tribe send word that foreign beings had arrived upon their shores the day before. Unlike the natives whose skins are dappled or striped and shine with bright colour, these foreigners had ashy grey skin. They seem to be trying to establish peaceful relations with the four tribes, and asking for their help. They claim to be from a land across the sea; the land of Ckeyse. |
Notes:
Quote: |
This will be more of an adventure-type story, rather than surviving for twelve days or whatever amount of time.
Participants can be tribe members or one of the foreigners and help to choose where to go and what the goal is.
The only restriction on character creation would of course be the skin colour and type of clothing. Natives have any colour of choice for skin [except for pure white, grey, black], whilst Ckeysians must have grey. Natives would wear something like Aboriginal or Mayan clothing idk. Ckeysians use Western-like clothing.
Also, the Natives have the use of some magics but Ckeysians have certain technological advancements that somewhat make up for it. |

| 0.0 They're all really cool, but something about that first one seems amazing to me...maybe it's just my avoidance of religion. Um..um..um..yea. Can't think of good words to say, but it's really cool.

| Aaaah ! I'm really glad you like it !
I never had confidence in making my own rp topics before, so...
i hoped these ideas would be interesting to other people
would you be interested in participating in that rp ?
1 on 1 RPs seem to be incredibly popular here D8
Probably because it's easier to rely on just one other person to keep posting rather than a whole bunch of them.. But I really like doing things as a team haha.
Bleh, idk how to make the other ideas more interesting :/

It's probably because we see the word trolls more often than tolls, especially on the internet. XP
And yeah, I also prefer your first setting. Dunno, the others are good too, but there's something about that time limit and restricted space that just seems more interesting right now. That being said, I'd probably join any of them if you turn them into real role-play.
*glares at the 1on1 forum*
I don't understand 1on1... I mean, I really tried to do some, but they just can't keep my attention for long. I mean, it looks more like a collaborative story than a real role-play to me.
Dunno, maybe if you just develop them a bit more, they'd be more interesting?

| Haha no kidding. TROLLolololo ~
I can't seem to find something catchy for that one.
Yesss, I'm so in the mood for something more fast-paced [action-wise, posting is bound to not be that quick]. No more condescending dialogue between two people or intense examination of someone's character. Lalala ~
So I've got a bit of interest it seems. If I can muster up a group, this show is definitely going on the road.
I think I see what you mean by collaborative story. There's a set path that you are supposed to take to reach the end goal. Maybe that's why concept #1 is most appealing; it allows for conflict between characters that have faith that God will save them and the characters that believe they must save themselves.
I guess I'll take another look over the other three. Their plots seem a little more flimsy haha xD

| Well, I like Twelve Tolls..., and changing the title after each toll/day seems like an interesting idea. Puts a little more pressure on everyone
Yup, something with more action sounds lovely. I don't mind long discussions/ development of character, but yeah, action just sounds more interesting
How many people do you want in your "group"? LIke, uber-large group (10-20-even more people (good luck getting that on Mido lol)) or small group (3-5 people)?
Yup, a fix path and ending, and after some time you end up knowing the other player's character(s) and can kinda guess what will happen. Can be fun for some time, but I don't know, I just always found that I ended up running in circles after a while, or just not finding anything new to add. Then again, I'm just probably not a very good one-on-one partner.

| PFFFFTblpftblttt. uber-large? no way xD impossible. Never. LOL.
I'd like at least 5 people >:
You know when you're watching those movies where disaster hits the earth and people join together to survive ? About that many people would be perfect. C:
I love to see those groups of people meet an obstruction and then start to argue. And then when they save each other too <33

| Blargh. It's a tie between two and three for me. One doesn't appeal to me, soley because of the whole religion, thing. Seriously, I would be one the very dead side of the spectrum before the story started, in real life. But that's besides the point.
Two sound more up my alley. However, I'm not aquainted with any of the referenced material, in the Notes Area.
However, I'm always up for a horror mess, like number three. Meh heh heh.

| Lol for #1 you wouldn't be in the cathedral because you wouldn't be religious ? That's understandable. But a few other people who don't believe can also stay in the church to claim sanctuary which basically forbids anybody to harm them while they are on holy ground. So people who are running from the law would be safe from the guards.
For #2, you really don't need to know what those things I mentioned were. I didn't reference them, I just got the idea while thinking about those books and other similar stories. So I haven't included anything that requires you to know about beforehand. Don't worry :3
Yesssss #3 ! I think it will be really good fun to write for a panicking character being chased or whatever.
