The clattering of horse hooves echo through the mountains. Screams add to the din as arrows hiss through the air, felling horses and men alike. The field is stained red with blood as the invaders are stopped once again.
But the victory of Japan cannot last forever. The armies are dwindling in number, and the ultimate protectors, the samurai, are almost gone.
The samurai need new recruits to learn how to fight, and, most importantly, bond with the dragons to protect Japan.
The samurai are allies with the twelve dragons, the rat, the ox, the tiger, the rabbit, the snake, the horse, the goat, the monkey, the rooster, the dog, the pig, and the mirror dragons. When bonded with the dragons, the samurai have the ability to use the dragons powers. But there are set backs to this power. Every power has a reverse affect, whether it kills a butterfly or causes a natural disaster to occur. The samurai must be mindful of this whenever they use their dragon's power to accomplish a task.
So, as the invasion of Japan draws near, will you join us samurai and fight off the Mongol invaders?

My Character:
Name: Yuuna Takeshita
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Appearance: Yuuna is quite tall for someone of Asian heritage, standing at about 5'10". He has waist length straight black hair. Almost always, Yuuna will wear his hair pulled back in a ponytail, or sometimes he will braid it. His eyes are almond shaped and the typical dark brown colour. His skin is very tan, thanks to the amount of time Yuuna spends in the sunlight. While he is muscular, he is not grotesquely so, but, even with that said, you can definitely tell that he is a warrior of some sort and could easily lift a heavy sword just by one glance. When fighting, he will wear the heavy armor typical of samurai. When Yuuna isn't fighting, he will still wear light armor due to his paranoia, and Yuuna always carries his two swords, the longer katana and the shorter wakizashi with him.
Personality: When on the battlefield, Yuuna is very calm, almost seeming to be in a trance as he cuts down his opponents. But, as soon as all enemies have fallen, Yuuna is immediately very flighty and cautious. He has major paranoia. He is always fearing that someone is out to kill him, which, of course, is a reasonable thought, since, being a samurai, he has made a lot of enemies. The only fact is that sometimes, his paranoia gets to the point that he thinks one of his best friends it out to kill him. Most of the times, they can calm him down, but not always, which is why Yuuna now has few best friends. One thing someone should never do is surprise Yuuna. Walking up behind him without him knowing you are there will immediately give you two swords sprouting in your gut. This is one reason why Yuuna avoids crowded areas to the best of his ability. On the other hand, despite his paranoia, Yuuna can be incredibly loyal, especially to those higher ranking than him and those he thinks fight for a good cause. Winning Yuuna's loyalty and respect will earn you a protector for life.
History: Yuuna started training as a samurai from the young age of six. He trusted his master more than anything at first, but that trust was quickly cut off once his master told him to not trust anyone or anything. He broke that one rule when he was thirteen, and got close to another samurai. Eventually, that samurai began to think Yuuna's master was hiding some secret, and attacked them, killing Yuuna's master. Out of revenge, Yuuna killed that samurai. That fateful day marked the first time Yuuna ever killed anything other than a training dummy. Even since then, Yuuna has grown paranoid and doesn't trust anyone anymore. He is still loyal to people, but not as much as he had been earlier in his life. Yuuna will give his life to stop the Mongols from invading Japan.
Dragon: Snake
Crush/Love: Open/Open
Other: Oh, by the way, the dragons are based off of the Chinese zodiac.

INCOMPLETE

Character:
Name: Given name: Shen, Surname: Ue
Guise: Shin Ue
Age: 20
Gender: Male
Appearance: WORKING ON IT
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 (IGNORE THE FACT THE LAST ONE IS "NUDE", I DREW THAT FAR SO I CAN DO THE ARMOR AND A MODERNIZED VERSION FOR MY OTHER RP I THREW HIM INTO)
Personality: Pompous and occasionally condescending, Shen lives up to his belief that he is greater than the gods. He figures he can do more than who's being prayed to which is ironic to his own name (see below). He's brash and honest, even when he knows it's not the best time. He often will use his dragons power without really any mind for the consequences. This and his ego make him very unpopular with the other warriors and high-ups.
History: Since being born to a Chinese mother and a Japanese father, Shen's childhood wasn't ideal, having been borne of almost taboo blood. He had few friends, many turned away because of this, and forced him to act out. His father became ill when Shen was of nine years and he and his mother took to taking care of him, but with a lacking income and the scorn of others, this was terribly difficult. Shen changed his name and became the apprentice of a sword-smith abroad, to pay for his father's medical bills. He would often test these blades and where he would normally be scolded for it, his master instead watched as he, over time, honed these skills that came seemingly out of nowhere. When the invasions started, it became tough keeping up with the demand for swords. Often times, Shen would have to fend the smith from those intending on taking the weapons, rebels, usually. Upon one break-in, as the rebels began their assault, Shen forced them back with an unnatural power. They managed to scurry away with their lives and when word got out of his power, the recruiters came to acquire Shen for the invasion's defense.

Dragon: Rooster
Crush/Love: (will like anyone who appreciates his "level of awesome"), a girl he met before taking off to the training grounds/Open
Other: Shen has gone by another name to hide his bloodline, altering it to "Shin", meaning "信, "belief"", much like his original given name. This word can also mean "慎, "humility"", which is fairly more suited. If anyone brings up his old name, he blames their hearing and laughs it off. Is a spearman, despite using swords so often. He decided he would be a complete show off if he had. He's also a lefty when writing and eating.

I wrote this all with the faint idea a rooster would be fitting. Turns out, the personality of one born in the year of the rooster is perfect and his age would make him the year of the rooster comparatively to Yuuna's (if he were born in the year of the snake). The mongol invasions, according to the net, were 1974 and 1981, so to be twenty in 1977 and a rooster, 1957 would be Shen's birthyear. Since this is a fantasy RP, the actual years shouldn't matter much but I'm finding this amusing.
Bonus, they're compatible XD Holy cow, coincidence.

EDIT: will be working out more character flaws and personality which I have in my head but I'm lazy

That's pure epic XD
Just, one thing. I thought the Mongol invasions were in the years 1274 and 1281, not 1974 and 1981?

There was a thud as a knife buried itself in the rotting wood, the old gate creaking in protest. Yuuna stared at the gate that had creaked open due to a gust of wind, panting more because of fear rather than exhaustion. He had been feeling unusually paranoid lately, and the creaking of the gate had majorly startled him. Stalking over to the fence, Yuuna shuddered, trying to shake off the feeling that someone was watching him, even though he had grown used to that particular feeling.

He braced his foot against the wood, grabbing the hilt of the dagger and attempting to pull it out of the gate. Thanks to the fact that Yuuna was stronger than he thought he was, especially when he was scared, the dagger wasn't moving at all, almost completely buried in the wood. Yuuna grumbled under his breath in annoyance, frowning and kicking at the gate. The tired old gate creaked once before falling of its hinges, landing with a quite thud on the ground.

Sighing, Yuuna turned around, using the time tested theory of 'if I ignore it, it didn't happen', and pulled his two swords out of their sheaths, starting to practice different slashes. The frown on his face slowly faded away into becoming a calm expression, him settling into the usual feeling of tranquility that came from sword fighting. Only when he had his swords in his hands did Yuuna ever seem to be truly calm, his paranoia completely gone. This was slightly odd, since usually, when he was holding the two blades, Yuuna was on the battlefield, where it was much more likely he would be killed. But, no one decided to argue with Yuuna's odd logic, since, those who did usually didn't live to tell the tale.

After having practiced multiple attacks on blocks, Yuuna slid the swords into the sheaths, barely seeming to be tired on the outside, although he actually was rather exhausted. He turned, and groaned.

The gate was still lying on the ground.

The very improperly clad samurai crept along the forest floor, disregarding the paths and naturally a quiet step (though more often than not, his "big mouth" had negated this). His decision to take a break from the training grounds had been rapidly appearing to be a grim one, having never been in this particular region and utterly lost. Shen's pride was almost too much to ask for help when he'd past someone and it was growing dark. As new recruit, no one would care to look for him nor even know where he'd be headed.

He braced himself against the abnormally chill wind and pushed his hair from his eyes. Upon his readjustment, he's easily startled by something falling. Shen would seem desperate to waltz right over but despite himself, he did just that. He hops over the fallen object, laughing it off, being just a gate, and closes the distance between himself and this other man clad in armor carrying the militia's insignia. The spear on his back jingles in its sling. "Yo, you can probably help me, I'm--"

Yuuna flinched as he heard the tell-tale clink of metal that was often caused by a spear jingling in its shaft. His katana was out of its sheath almost instantly, Yuuna spinning around almost as if dancing, the blade of the sword singing through the air. There was a splash of red as blood soared through the air, leaving a trail behind the blade as the tip came to a halt in front of the young man's throat.

"Who. Are. You.?" Yuuna spat, his harsh tone not hiding the fact that his eyes were wide with fear. He did not notice the military insigna marking the man as his allie, so caught up in his paranoia. Despite the fact that Yuuna was trembling like a leaf in a storm thanks to his surprise, the tip of the sword remained steady, hovering in front of the man's throat, a crimson line runnimg across his shoulder, showing what path the blade had taken.

Shen was careful to swallow lightly before he spoke, feeling the blade's cool touch lingering against his skin. He reassessed the situation he'd put himself in, inwardly smacking himself for being so naïve. Anyone could be in the ally's guise and he could have easily gotten his himself slain. He held back a laugh when he felt the subtle vibrations of Yuuna's shaking travel through the earth, noticing how unprepared and frightened he truly must have been. Forgetting to be careful, the point of the blade invites itself into his neck a tad and Shen pulled back just the slightest, but not too quick to alarm his onlooker. He was almost tempted to fight back but thought against it, keeping his hands where they were.

The stinging in his freshly wounded skin forces his voice to come off a bit harsh. "I'm She-- -Shin," he instinctively corrected, reminding himself he'd been going under an altered name for years. Mentally shaking that off, he continues. "Ue Shin. I can't speak much with your knife at my throat." Purposely belittling the blade worthy of his old master's work, Shen disallows himself to tear his eyes away from the man for more than a second to admire it.

Yuuna nodded stiffly, the comment about his sword stinging, and cautiously lowered the blade, still tensed and ready to draw the wakizashi in case this 'Shin' tried anything. "What are you doing here?" he said, watching the man for any hints that he might be lying. As his eyes looked over the man, he realized the few pieces of armor the man was wearing were engraved with the army's insigna. "Are you a new recruit?" Yuuna asked cautiously, his eyes flicking around, scanning his surroundings. Many people often used the army's insigna as a disguise to fool people, and Yuuna wasn't about to let himself be drawn into a trap.

Suddenly, a bird call whistled through the air, almost causing Yuuna to jump out of his skin. He spun around just in time to see a bird fly out of a tree. Realizing his mistake, Yuuna immediately turned back to Shin, wishing he didn't always jump at shadows and hadn't let himself be drawn away from watching the young man.

Without the weapon's threat, Shen let out a hearty laugh, disregarding the pain a moment to be himself. "You're a hoot, paranoia-dono," the spearman chuckled, catching his breath shortly after. "I'm a recruit, I guess you can say." He recalls his involuntary recruitment to the militia with disdain on his lips. The momentarily forgotten pain told him to keep on his guard. His hands fumbled with the torn kimono, trying to tuck the edges under the strap of his chest armor that had failed to protect him from the attack. His disposition was far less joyous, his eyes becoming thin. "So s'that how you greet everyone that asks you for directions?" His left hand kept a bit of pressure on the bleeding wound.

Unable to stop himself, Yuuna's hand shot forward like an adder, striking the side of Shin's face in a hard slap. If someone made a list of things Yuuna detested, unapropriate or rude uses of honorifics would definitely top the list, with rude people right underneath. "No, that's only how I would greet a rude baka such as yourself," he muttered angrily.

"Why are you strutting around wearing almost no armor?" Yuuna asked, almost sounding concerned as he changed the subject. Just because he seemed grumpy on the outside didn't mean Yuuna liked it any more than another samurai when new recruits were killed. "Do you think you are a god? Do you think you can survive a fatal blow any better than the other samurai?" Any traces of what could have been concern immediately evaporated as Yuuna struggled to not yell at the other samurai. Yelling at new recruits was the commander's job, not his.

"So you really do treat a stranger harshly," he spoke inwardly under his breath, low enough even he couldn't hear his words. Blinking away his initial startled take to the infliction, he calmly stated his reasoning. "I wouldn't want to be weighed down in battle by an excess of armor. I'd just get myself killed that way." His wording seemed rehearsed and a tad more intelligent than his usual way of speaking. "And besides, I'm pretty damn tough; haven't been taken down yet," he lied, having been bested by his master plenty of times. "Ain't seen any gods do any real work so I figure I'm just as good on the field." His eyes winced in reaction to his gesturing tugging at his wound. "So what'ya gonna do about harming me? Leave it a' that and walk away? An' you're callin' me the rude one!" He gestured once more, clearly having not learned not to just a second before.

Yuuna's hand hit Shin's face once again, this time slightly harder, probably hard enough to knock Shin of balance. Since his superstitious streak was a mile wide, Yuuna hated it when people talked badly of gods. "Don't blaspheme," he growled, glaring at the young male. "Just because you don't see what they do doesn't mean the gods don't affect our lives." Suddenly, his frowning face fell into a slightly frightening blank mask as Yuuna got control of his emotions, his eyes the only betrayal of what he was feeling. "And there is a reason why we use so much armor. Not because it'll get us killed. Because it protects us," he muttered. "And if you haven't been taken down yet, how did you let yourself be almost sliced in half by a strike any amateur could have easily dodged?"

"Also, by the way, I wasn't intending on just walking away. Only someone with no honour would imagine I would do such a thing, and only someone with even less honour that no honour would actually walk away. But, you are making me be sorely tempted to just walk away," Yuuna said coldly.

Shen caught himself before his balance was visibly teetered and swung out his spear. His intention was not for a fight but to make himself appear stronger. "When you've got proof of gods, then you come straight to me," his gesturing would have been dangerous with the spear in hand if Yuuna hadn't been those few steps away. His words then grew low in his throat. "An' you expect me to defend a sudden attack from an ally? I would'a killed you." He eyed the other man with contempt, that of an opponent in a duel. He was certainly determined to prove his worth and perhaps even superiority, even if it had to wait to a later time. "An' if your go attackin' every ally we got, we won' have an army to fight with. Quit bein' so paranoid, would'ya?"
