Hairstyles?

I've never been the best at this whole fashion thing, and I just want to cut my hair short. But I'm afraid of it looking bad because I've had long hair my whole life. ._. And... yeah. I've tried looking at celebrities, but I'm terrible at matching facial features and everything, and I don't know any celebrities in the first place. I've also tried the whole tie your hair back and slap on pictures thing, but ugh. I think I'm making it more complicated than it really is, haha.

Anyway, here are two pictures of me, taken only a day or two apart. Granted, they're a few years old, but not much has changed, really. I look more mature, tired and depressed. XD But right now I look far too grotesque to actually take a picture, so you're going to have to deal with that.

Has anyone else kept their hair long throughout their life like I have? Did you have a lot of trouble letting it go? Long hair or short hair? Hey, I'm making discussion here. Halp?

I do think it'd look nice short too though, but preferably a layered cut rather than just flat.

At the moment I'm growing mine long, but I would actually like to cut it short again...
I just don't think it suits me.
I actually have a picture of me with short hair somewhere :/

I honestly love my hair, but I'm just tired of dealing with it. XD I want something that I can just wake up and brush. Little to no maintenance. Plus, there's the cliche psychological desire to cut it off as a symbol of moving on. Long story though, not important.

Does it take a long time to grow your hair out? That feels like a stupid question. ._.

I agree with the maintenance thing though lol, sometimes I get up, stare at my hair which looks like bloody Medusa, and I'm just like "Eeeehhh, do not want..."
For me, it doesn't take long at all for my hair to grow, which is annoying as hell 'cos I love to dye mine, and within a month I'll already have the dreaded roooooooootssssss...

Which is why I don't think I'll ever dye my hair. XD That would be such a bitch to deal with.

first of all, i think short hair will suit you, and you're lucky in that you have that pixie-nose that always looks great with... well, pixie haircuts XD haha.

i agree with kupsy on layering. short hair AND flat at the same time... i dont see it working. plus layers make your hair lighter (as in weight) and easier to deal with.

so i'd say go for a layered, choppy cut (as in they cut the ends choppy instead of a straight edge) as this means you can easily pull of that sorta rough and tumble look. i know shit all about hair cutting so i'm just using words that describe things easiest, to me XD but short styles are great when theyre the kind you can just slap some wax through and create a fun style with, but without worrying about every hair being in the "right" place.

i havent had my hair short for a while. time to delve through the old myspace and see if i can find a picture... o.o

I have insanely long hair. Not only is it long, it's heavy and straighter than a rulers' edge. I can't do much with it besides pull it back into a ponytail. Okay to be fair, I can do a bit more than that, but I choose not to. It's too heavy to try curling it. And I'm not about to spend a ton of money on attempting to style it, when it's just going to straighten out within the hour.

Now for the majority of my life, it's been down to my waist, if not longer. I've had it trimmed, but never any further than the small of my back. However, in my senior year of high school, I cut it all off to donate it.

Anyhoo, it took two years for my hair to grown back to arse length. During this time, I was frustrated by the fact that my hair had a tendency to get in my face. Don't get me wrong, it gets in my face not matter what length it is, but it wasn't even long enough to pull back. Hair clips didn't work. Hairbands gave me a headache. When it was long enough to pull back, I put it rght back where it was before. In a ponytail.

Your hair is gorgeous though. I've always wanted thick, dark hair. Were you afraid to cut it?

Oh my, I can't remember the time I had short hair xD mine is thick, course, black, and the very ends are at my butt.
But I do believe you have a really nice face shape that would look good with many styles. But like Kupsy said, having a straight cut would probably be too strong/bold. And wearing the hair on your face may take away from the overall shape. So I would keep bangs from covering your features.

If you're going for layers, I think if you start them close to eyebrow level, maybe a bit above and then cut it to just lick your neck and then end with very thin layers at the shoulder. Give your ears some breath :3 Then Maybe some leaf-shaped bangs that are kept above the face coming down to the bottom of the ear. And if you want to make it more sophisticated, you could use mousse to pull it up and give it a little height above the forehead.
And then if you want a longer face, then you could take some of the layers on the side and pull it forward to lick your cheeks.
To me, this style seems easy to wear and fix in the morning and your hair seems much thinner than mine, so it would have this pretty wispy effect. Bedhead may not look too bad haha.
Anyways, I just think that you would look more awake and fresh without the long hair.

In the second link, I can see a really soft bob ending a bit below the jaw line because from what I can see, the hair tips would come in at the ends. Then some deep layers starting near the height of the ear lobe area, but the bangs cut shorter, maybe the area in the middle of the ear and make that a soft cut as well, but again keeping it off of the face.

I love all the nice things about having short hair :3 definitely love that it thins out the neck and collar area. Unless you have a thicker neck, then I think hair that covers the sides of the neck would thin it.

If you're going to cut it in a layered style, personally I would not suggest choppy because I think it may come out really strong, looking mullet style. Razor cut may turn out good, but I don't know about that. I use razors on my hair, but then again I have think asian hair xD. SO I would go for layered soft cuts, the ones using thinning scissors and cutting upwards at the end... like... gah, hard to explain. You know when hair dressers pick up the hair and the use the scissors to in the direction of the hair instead of straight across it? Yeah, like that

I wasn't afraid to cut it. At least, that wasn't the reason it was long for the majority of my life.

However, I was a bit apprehensive when those scissors started doing what they do best. My hair had been a big part of me for so long, I wasn't sure if I would like having short hair. Did I make a mistake? Was it going to be alright? Would I like having short hair? Or would I let it grow out again?

I let it grow out, because it was something that I had grown accustomed to. I liked my long hair. Sure, I never do anything with it. But It was a part of who I was.

Sorry for disappearing from this thread for a while. o.o I DID decide to cut my hair, and I'll be going this Sunday. I took some pictures today though, to get a few last ones of my long hair. XD I'll be donating it to Locks of Love.

Back when my son was a little thing and I had a bit of longer hair.

When I first cut off all my hair and my kido was still just a little thing.

Now

I have no other photos from between the time my hair was long till now if I do they are trapped on a hard drive from and old computer till I can get whats on the hard drive off that and onto my own.

Yeah I have always prefered my hair short. I wish I had a picture when I was much younger on my computer. I have always kept my hair pretty short till I got a bf. He liked long hair so I let it grow out for him despite my dislike of it.
