Collecting

Tell me Midorea, is there some kind of item that you like to collect? Games, Toys, Books, Shoes, whatever tell me what it is and how you started collecting.


At the moment you could say that I've got a good collection of trinkets, and manga...and I don't really want to collect anymore...but I always find myself surfing the net and finding really good deals on full manga sets on ebay or some cool retro toy like Blythe Dolls(I thought that he was amazing), not to mention Ball Jointed Dolls, and small Hello Kitty items~ I love the little kittys that come out of those half white half milk chocolate eggs.

i try to fight my hoarding instinct as its led to very messy, dirty bedrooms in the past XD; not nice.

i collect DVDs? not sure if that counts, aha. but more specifically i collect animated films - kinda should tho, given im studying animation at uni ahaha.

the other thing i collect is Shot Glasses. Every time i visit a foreign country I will seek out a shot glass and bring it back. They're purely for looking at, memorabilia - NEVER for use. my ex, when he still lived with me, went behind my back and had people over when i specifically told him not to without asking first, and when i came back i saw the shot glasses left dirty by the sink. i went NUTS.

as in. I woke him up by screaming at him and stood there and bitched and cussed him out til he was in tears, and even then i kept going til i was too exhausted to shout anymore o_o;

I don't really collect anything in particular, but I do have issues with procrastination and hoarding that have led to some incredibly messy rooms. Whenever I go somewhere I like to buy something pretty, though.

I like collecting Books, toys(Action figures), movies and uhhhh...tons of other things.

@ecco, I can understand why you had the fit of rage. Its one thing to have people in your house unwanted, but to use what was apart of your collection what out of line as well. I mean what if one broke? Plus they're from all over to...shame on'em..back on topic I do consider collection animated films as a topic in this thread...its something I'd like to do later on for when I have kids so we can all watch the same cartoons that I grew up on together...Like Flapjack, and Rugrats~ And back to those Shot Glasses, my Granny does the same thing with those mini spoons. You know the totally useless ones with the decorative charm in the tip...I like them, but I can't really say I like collecting things I've got to clean.

@evercharmer, what kinds of things do you find yourself hoarding? Its a habit that always seems to lead to a messy room actually. I'm not as bad as I was when I was younger I'm glad to say...I think getting over something like that requires a few changes in furniture in some cases (like mine).

@Branny hey there you~ lol you love collecting, you know if you've got a photo of some of those Action Figures I'd love to see them. What kind are they anyway? You collect tons O.o How do you find the space, and keep it neat too? I can see how the Avatar sites would play on your habits though~

haha, sounds familiar - my gandma collects thimbles, even though she's not constantly sewing or anything XD it's interesting how we end up collecting things that serve us no purpose - and we're all drawn to different things.. i wonder what it is that draws us to certain objects over and over again?

ecco, I've never really tough about it, but personally I find that I tend to collect things that I enjoy (cute useless things) or things that I'd want to share with my kids when I have them like video games, and mangas.

I tend to think my granny is more of a hoarding or things in general than a collector of sorts though XD She's just got so much of everything.

I collect rubber ducks. I have a lot of different right and all have different colours and/or sizes. There are still a lot I want to have
My favourite is defiantly the pirate rubber duck. It's see through blue, has a pirate outfit on and it's holding a sword

I collect... money. XD
I would like to start collecting money, foreign money that is. I have a yuan or what it is that's the Chinese dollar bill. Of course, I really shouldn't have it, as foreign currency shouldn't go past borders. But my uncle got it, and its only worth 12 cents or so.

It is worth 15 cents actually.
Taking currency across the border messes up the economy stuff, but it was illegal for a time to bring money back from a Communist country.

Most Communist countries rely on having a balance of money and when it leaves the state, it can mess with the value. China has enough foreign investments that it probably doesn't matter. North Korea on the other hand has all foreigners use USD when they are within the borders, so tourists don't mess with the value of the currency. Or at least this is what was told to me by a friend who got to go there for a day a few years ago. Though it is interesting to me that the currency they want foreigners to use is USD when they hate the US.

As for what I collect; I do usually take home some currency from wherever I visit, though when I was younger I was more adamant about this.
I do collect books of my favorite authors: Diana Wynne Jones, Charles DeLint, Emma Bull, Holly Black, Jane Yolen, and Vivian Vande Velde. xD
And then we have a random DVD collection, with respectable categories of Scifi and Anime.
I believe I have a quarter collection going but my mother keeps track of that xD
Oh! and now that I chopped off my hair, I'm collecting things to put in my hair. Things to help point out that I am female.

I collect Resident Evil paraphernalia. Games, soundtracks, game guides, movies, toys, you name it. I have a good lot in my collection, too, and there's still items I'm yearning to get. D:

Reading over all of this makes me wonder when do collectors cross that line into the realm of hoarding...if you think that is something that happens that is. Do you think that there is such a line?

I think that there is such a thing...when a collections begins to interfere with the quality of living I think that is a problem...yes...what do you all think?

Back to the money collecting...does anyone remember the Dutch Mark? Well way back when they still had them I aimed to get one of every paper bill and all of the coins....I only managed to get all the coins, and a 20 bill all of which I still had. At the time I thought the currency was rather pretty...couldn't really tell you why though.

All in all you all have some amazing collections...maybes some photos are in order?
