Ic an't change genders and there is nothing that I've seen that tells me how!

You don't actually have a gender. You can change between girl and boy bases in the Base layer in your Avatar screen.

Branny's right.
If you want a male avatar, just pick the base with a little "m" beside them. "f" bases are female, and the clothes work the same way.
