| Well, you weren't the one who was stabbed and operated on! If I wasn't in such bad condition I would have gone out and fought in hand-to-hand combat with Tempest.

| I didn't know if Tempest could still hear me, but for the last time I shouted Good! I wouldn't want you around after I'm able to leave anyways!

| I vaguely heard Jade's last comment, but didn't respond. I just kept going with Zahi in tow. We left Vegas and chose to head to the opposite coast; to South Carolina. I'd heard good things about it's beaches.
Kicking it into high gear, we were moving at 300mph without stopping.

| Phynix's reptile vision helped her see Tempest. Her sparkling ember-like scales made the night sky a pretty sight for anyone who was able to see dragons.
I was released from the hospital the next day since they had finished my operations. I signed out and called out to Zodiac. I don't care if Phynix left. She was no good to me. Ice is my element, not fire.
Jade, Phynix was... is your dragon.
I don't care. She can choose to leave. She did leave. You know what, Zodiac? Maybe you should leave too.
Jade-
Just go! If you're going to be like this, go!
Zodiac had never seen Jade like this. It was as if shewas becoming... evil.

| A few days later we reached South Carolina's coast and were checked into a random hotel. I sighed and flopped down on the matress and fell asleep. I didn't know what to do anymore. It was like up was down and down was up. It made no sense.

| Phynix spotted Zahi on the roof of a hotel. Zahi. Phynix nodded towards the other dragon.
I wandered around the streets of Las Vegas. I barely had money. I didn't have a dragon. I was still injured. People stopped and looked curiously at me, but ended up passing by without saying a word.
I had noticed I was starting to get black markings, almost like a series of black tatoo designs all over my body. I couldn't help but think What are these? Am... am I really turning evil?

| Zahi snapped his head up and hissed. What are you doing here? he snarled, getting up. He lowered his head menancingly and prepared for battle.
I'd changed into a swimsuit by this time and was making laps around the outdoor pool. The water was freezing, but I didn't particuarlly care. Seagulls sqauked overhead and the air smelled of salt.

| I... I followed Tempest and you here. I don't want to stay with Jade anymore. Phynix landed on the roof next to Zahi. I'm getting certain traces of Zodiac's aura, like he followed me but took a different... longer path.

| Zahi felt the truth in her mind. Okay, but let me tell Tempest, he thought.
I felt him contact me and quickly agreed to let them stay so I could go back to my laps. Stroke, stroke, stroke, I thought rythmically.
My arm muscles burned, but I kept at it. It was a good way to get my mind off of things and just relax. I closed my eyes and kept going.
After about a hundred laps, I got out and dried off before laying down in a chair and basking in the late afternoonn sunlight.

| Zodiac was in Missouri when he turned around. Jade has no dragon; no protection. She'll die. Even if I have to follow the path of evil, I will be her gardian.
The markings on my arms were growning darker every day. I was also forming black wings; those of a demented dragon.

I could feel Zodiac's aura coming nearer each moon rise. I sent him thoughts like I'm not safe anymore! or I told you to leave me! I don't need you! but he kept coming. Closer and closer he was getting... could I possibly find a way to get him to leave before it was too late?
