Prompting Feedback - PLEASE READ

This can't be an official thread because I didn't run it by Cat, so for now this is just to satisfy my curiosity.

We've been getting an influx of new members lately and I'm noticing more and more questions about how to navigate the site. What are the most confusing parts of Midorea? What needs elaboration?


Personally, I'd like to see a new member quest one day. This probably won't happen within the year, if at all, but it's something that I think would help users around the site. What are your thoughts on that? Suggestions? My goal here is to make Midorea a simple as possible for the average new user.

The character/battle aspects of the site are not obviously separated from the avatar aspects. That can be confusing at first.
Having all the stuff under the Character tab is kind of confusing because you wouldn't associate anything in that section other than the Character Sheet with the word "Character"
Other than the Control Panel, the others seem like they could go under the Explore tab, which is also somewhat confusing because all it seems to do is show you artwork and a small description of a place we can't actually do anything in.

Also the "duration" on items could be very confusing, because every item has at least 1, even items that aren't meant to be used.
When you buy an item like, say the Volleyball, you're buying an item with 150 duration, which is actually only 149 uses.
So that little bit can be pretty odd.

I don't know if we can change all of those tabs, but I understand. It doesn't help that the Character Sheet tabs are highlighted?

Yeah, we need to make permanent quests, but we don't really have a reason to add them, or an idea for what to make them.

The thing with the weapons is like that because otherwise, you could use everything down to a duration of zero and it would disappear. Some ARIs, BMIs and EIs are weapons, and it really wouldn't be fair to lose such a rare item because of something like that.

I don't really have suggestions of what I think would be better because I've been able to figure it out pretty quickly, but it seems like something that could confuse people who don't learn things as quickly.

Someone who would actually be confused with something would provide better feedback, sorry XD

I know when I first came here I was confused by the money. I didn't understand why silver wasn't buying things from the copper shop because it wasn't labeled copper only. See most places I have been to that have different currency the higher form of currency can but what the lower form can't afford and so on and so forth.

So I guess what I am saying is the money can be kindave confusing at first. I am sure there's something in the FAQ about it but I never looked and eventually figured it all out on my own.

When I first got here, I was horribly confused with why I couldn't see the avatars and why I couldn't view the shops. During the registration, or perhaps right after the accounts are activated, have it redirect to a short (so to avoid the tl;dr) information page that describes briefly how to set up your character and how once you do that, you will be able to view the shops and see avatars.

Also, would it be possible to add "The Team" link at the bottom of the forum index (which is an option on most phpBB forums) so users know, without having to scour through pages of threads to find the users who could help them? Also, on the topic of moderators, if there are any that aren't global moderators (which I don't think there are, I think they're all globals here..) would it be possible to have them listed in the forums they have privileges in?

Also, at the bottom of every thread, would it be possible to have the forum hierarchy? It is at the top of every thread, but I really think it would be helpful if it were at the bottom as well. When I lurk, I normally go all the way to the bottom and then want to go back to the forum the thread belongs to; currently, I have to scroll all the way back up to hit, such as this thread "Feedback & Suggestions"
In case I have the terms wrong, the forum hierarchy for this thread: "Midorea Forum Index -> Feedback & Suggestions"

That's all I can think of currently. But since I do have experience with battle-like games, I could possibly have a few more when I become more versed in the battle system already in place here. :3

Haha, I feel so stupid. ^^; I always ask myself what a good way to start that in a quest would be, when a simple page would suffice. The best answers are always the simplest, I guess.

Users request that, but I don't really see the point. I guess the suggestion should be put up to a staff vote or something though. Maybe a stickied thread in the help forum would be best...

Yeah, that definitely needs to be added. We'll look into it.

I think "The Team" link would be more of having all of the staff together in one place for a user that needs to contact someone, that is possible. Or, you could make the "Administrator" and "Moderator", located on the Legend under Who's Online list, links to the usergroups and users in them.

Yeah, I think I've seen that legend on other sites, so I'm sure that we could have one.

And I am curious, are there only Global mods here, or are there some regular moderators as well? It's always interesting to see how the staff team works from site to site.

Ah, I forgot to respond to that earlier. ^^;

Yeah, all of the mods here are technically global mods. It's not an issue since we're so small, but if/when we get larger, that will most likely change. For now, we trust our mods and users enough to not have any worries about it.
