| Dania crouched, her muscles tense, imagining spying on some invisible prey, and leaped. She managed to get a few inches farther than where she had intended. She made a pleased yip. She practiced it several more times, before finally tiring out. She went over to the lake and tried drinking, but couldn't figure out how to. She'd seen other animals stick their tongues out and cup the water in them, so she tried that. 'Erf, being an animal is so... strange.'

| "For someone who used to be a human, it is," Brin replied. The puma wandered over to the water's edge, to try her hand at drinking. After a couple false starts, she was able to consume some liquid.
