Yes, I'm deciding on whether or not to sleep on it right now or wait for her to come by. I'll be in deep sleep if I do and won't hear her at the door or come in...

I'm not sure if anyone will be home to get the door or guide her in...lol

I'm like a rock when I'm deep sleeping, though people have claimed to having full conversations with me while I was half awake. LMAO
Wish I could remember them.

While I'm not a huge fan of the movies or books, I've read this first Harry Potter book, and a little of the others. I've basically read enough to completely understand why people like them. They're great books.

Twilight just...ugh. I couldn't even GET through the first one. I've read basically synopsis' and criticisms from fans and anti-fans of the book, and even the authors that admit to being fans of the book agree that it's still shoddily written. My favorite thing to do though? And if you haven't tried this yet, do so, it's hysterical...

When confronted with two Twilight fans that make the argument that you don't like the book because "Edward and Bella have the greatest love/relationship, they're relationship works so well, etc., and you're just madd because you don't," or some variant respond with these:

1. If they're clearly below the age of sixteen, chances are they haven't either.

2. If they have, and they're a girl, ask them if they truly WANT a relationship like that. Through the eyes of anyone with a critical eye (or have done/read those character studies on live journal), Edward is a stalker, he is manipulative, as well as mentally and emotionally abusive. And as stated above, so is Bella. She toys with the emotions of two men who are (in some way or another) attached to her, for no real reason at all.

3. Aside from, as my friend put it, "the raw and passionate urge to fuck," what do Bella and Edward have in common? What do they like other than each other? If Edward wasn't a vampire, would this relationship have "worked" at all?
Quote:
"Edward likes baseball!"

We see him play it once. Does Bella know who his favorite player is? His favorite team? What positions he likes to play? Do they watch the sport on TV together on a Sunday afternoon?
Quote:
"Bella Likes to read!"

Bella's favorite books are the following : Pride and Prejudice, Wuthering Heights, and Romeo and Juliet. Basically anything that's been on a high school reading list. She is only seen reading if it is plot important. Does she have any other favorite authors? Most people who like to read often have way more than just one.

And now my favorite: what non-sexual, non-affectionate activities can they both do together? That ISN'T directly related to the plot?

Like my boyfriend and I. We loves games. Video, board, table top, etc (he will be joining this forum when he gets back to school, because he'll have a better internet connection Happy). That's something we both have in common. We have the same dark and egregiously offensive sense of humor. We like having in depth discussions about politics, and philosophy, though our opinions usually differ.

Other than cuddle and tell each other how much they love/want one another, what the hell else do they do together?

...tl;dr, lol. Sorry about that. Sweat

what the heck is tl;dr btw? i keep seeing this but i can never remember what it stands for!

and all these points have been exactly my view from the beginning. from everything i have read of it, edward is, like you say, manipulative, abusive, and a stalker.

i have been on the receiving end of such a relationship, and let me tell you it is NOT something anybody should hope for in a relationship. its something you should FEAR and avoid at all costs. the fact that this book is aimed at young girls (and idiotic older women) makes me sick. how dare anyone encourage a young girl to think such a man is one to aspire to call your boyfriend. it makes me feel sick thinking about it.

and the idea that bella, being a hollow and shallow character, is so that the reader can imagine themselves in her shoes? ridiculous. way to encourage girls, again, but this time that they should want to be such a vulgar woman. ugh.

I DID READ THOUGH, EVEN THOUGH I TOTALLY SAID THAT WHEN I FIRST GLANCED OVER THE POST! xD

I write long rants too so I read it out of the loving hatred we all share for Twilight.

Actually, the girl might be screaming because she didn't manage to get a ticket for the new twilight movie. AMG NOOOOO!!

Lol, I love hatedom.

Though, I do wonder if Twilight is in fact, a stealth parody, and maybe we're not giving Stephanie Meyer enough credit. Or she's worse than we thought, but in a more horrible way than anyone could have ever imagined.

Namely for this reason:

The characters Claire and Quil. For anyone not familiar, Exhibit A:

Quote:
In Eclipse, Quil imprints on Emily's two-year-old niece, Claire. Although this appears to cause a scandal, Jacob explains that there is currently nothing romantic about his feelings, and that Quil will be whatever Claire needs him to be at each point in her life, whether it be a brother, friend, protector, or lover.

Just to clarify, "imprinting" is apparently something werewolves do when they've found their soul mate. Or that's what the Twi-hards will tell you anyway. What they neglect to tell you is that at its core, imprinting is used to find a suitable mate for reproduction, starting with an "older sibling" relationship if they're young, to "sexual/romantic love" as the relationship progresses. It should be noted that of the five characters who have been imprinted in the book, two of them were definitely under age at the time of imprinting, while one was unspecified.

Though many fans just explain it away as "oh he'll be whatever she needs him to be," (despite the pedophilia overtones already present in the book with the whole "Jacob imprinting Bella's baby FRESH FROM THE WOMB" thing), many people don't seem to catch the fact that the names "Claire" and "Quil" are a direct reference to the character Clare Quilty, from the infamous novel "Lolita."

Knowing that lil' tidbit of info pretty much sends their argument out the window.

Most girls (pre-teen, teenage, or... ugh, adult in some cases) want relationships just as shallow as that one. Hint: Anyone who says they're after "true love" truly isn't. They just aren't. They're after the image or idea of true love, but they don't give two shits about the real thing because it's something that you have to work for and build on. QUICK, RUN AWAY!

So, as a romance, Twilight can succeed or fail, depending on what you, the reader, are after. If you're after something shallow and similar to soft porn, which we can't deny is the only shit that most women enjoy reading, then it's right up your alley. If you're after something unique and thought provocative, you should already know to stay over nine thousand fucking feet away from it.

As a saga... Wait, WHAT SAGA?

Quote:
a narrative telling the adventures of a hero or a family

Narrative. Okay, Twitards, ya got me there. Adventures. "I woke up and thought about Edward. Then I made breakfast. Then I thought about Edward again. Then I caught him staring at me through the window." Nope. Hero. No one does anything heroic. Saving your lover isn't heroic. Fighting with wolves isn't heroic. No. Family. You mean the spawn of Satan? That thing? And it's... adult counterparts? No. That group of beings cannot be considered a family. THE CHILD HAS TO MANIPULATE PEOPLE INTO LOVING IT. Everyone hates it until it does it's mind control shit on them. Not a family.

Oh, look. Not only do Meyer and the fanbase define love, family, vampire and relationship wrong, they define saga wrong as well. Let's burn them alive... Please?

@ecco: You're right. At least High School Musical had some amount of talent in it. (Fucking admit it: It was just annoying as hell.) Twilight has... no redeming qualities at all. AND I OWN THREE FUCKING BOOKS. D; "Cara, you like to read. Look at these big books I bought for you! Enjoy." *begins reading* "Holy shit... Why?"

And Twilight is definitely not a stealth parody. I know, I know, I want it to be true too, but we have to face it: She's terrible. If we took away her thesaurus and Microsoft Word spell and grammar check, imagine how her books would look. Go on, I can wait.

Now tell me, DO YOU NOT WANT TO FUCKING KILL YOURSELF AFTER REALIZING HOW MUCH MONEY SHE'S MADE OFF OF THIS SHIT? God!

CAPS rage is fun. Happy

EDIT: One last thing: Basically every male character in that series tells you that men must bend to the whims of woman and be "everything they want" as mentioned earlier. If I were to analyze this piece of shit, I'd probably do a biographical analysis of the author. It's obvious that dear Bella is an insert for her so it's the only way that you could possibly analyze it.
