Yup, the reaction point is very interesting. It can easily make a role-play go downhill, since after a while the person making longer post will probably get tired and start making shorter posts too.

Glad you like it. It's mostly a remake of a guide a friend of mine made on Gaia a while ago, and the rest derives from your guide, so thanks for making it Big Grin Anything you thing should be added or modified?

I was surprised to note you suggest waiting for my opinion first. Then I remembered this is Mido, not the Site-that-must-not-be-named. xD

Anyway, I will take a look at the guide and reply as soon as I have thoroughly read it. From a quick look at Maeve's version - which is currently the most recent, I think? - I gathered no obvious mistakes, but I haven't read it thoroughly enough yet to be able to give a good response to it. So far, though, it looks good. Smile

Woah. This thread is really tl;dr but I skimmed over some of it (and the guidelines, lol @Maeve, you spelled it gammar btw), and I'm just throwing my support behind this. This is the exact reason I don't RP on this site. I run many of my own advanced literate RPs and I'm afraid I have trouble settling for less than that. :/ RP reform would be delightful.

Maeve, I'm gonna leave this to you because I'm totally ignorant with roleplaying. If you have any questions or need any verification, feel free to ask, but I really can't help as of now. xP The main things that I think that we should look for are re-written rules and cleaning up the forum, for the record.

Yes, else than this guide which is as good as done, I think that rewriting the rules and move the RPs to their then-correct places would be the main things. Not that I am staff or anything, just my opinion on it.

As for the guide:

Quote:
[...]
- Text must be written correctly (no leet/chat speak);
- Gammar and punctuation mistakes are tolerated,

Grammar
Quote:
though it's always encourage you check your posts before posting them;

encouraged
Quote:
- Few, if any, usages of expressions and complex vocabulary, making a story and characters with less depth;

While not incorrect, I feel that 'little, if any use of' flows better.
Quote:
- Don't accept one liners, but don't have a set number of paragraphs you need to post either, which means people usually post one or two paragraphs;

Everything else is written in third person - Don't, however, is first/second person. It should be doesn't, I think.
Quote:
- Has a setting and introduction, though it's usually something really short, just to make sure people all start in the same place;

That makes it seem as if in Semi-literate roleplays, all characters start at the same, in-game, location, which is not necessary. I suggest position or circumstances.
Quote:
- Has a plot, but it's either not strict (meaning it changes all the time) or not well planned, or too strict (forces people in a direction instead of gently guiding them);

It seems you are trying to point out there IS a plot, just not in the exact same way you can find it in literate and advanced literate RPs. Therefore, I would suggest 'does have', but has is in no way wrong. Just personal taste, I guess.
Quote:
- Minimum rules (no godmodding, no one liners, etc.).

While I am uncertain if there is anything you can do about it while keeping the punctuation correct, .). looks strange to me.

Quote:
//- Anything above goes in the General Role-Plays Forum/ Everything below should go into the Advance Forum, but can be moved if its level changes -//

I'd suggest 'everything that fits one of the categories above should go', although anything is correct too.

Quote:
Literate:
- Grammar is a must, though occasional typos are obviously tolerated;
I'd suggest although instead.

Quote:
- Players use a wider vocabulary and expressions to give depth to the story and their characters;

Either skip 'a' or add more between 'and' and 'expressions'. Otherwise it says 'a expressions' which makes little to no sense.

Quote:
- Often (always?) has a posting requirements, though varies from game to game (I say we place it around 4);

'A requirement' or just plain 'requirements'.

Quote:
- Has a defined and detailed setting and a good introduction;
- Has a defined plot, though it leaves space for player to use their imagination and do stuff;

I'd say, once again, although. I'd also suggest does leave instead of leaves. Both are personal taste more than that there is an actual mistake.

Quote:
- Has strict rules;
- Requires a profile to join! And sometimes post examples too.

It doesn't look good to start a new sentence with 'and'. I'd suggest merging the sentences or reforming the second sentence to something along the lines 'It sometimes requires post examples as well'.

Quote:
Advanced (literate):
- Like literate, but more strict and with a greater story-like feeling;
- Higher posting requirement, and sometimes a frequency requirement (need to post once a day or something like that);
- Usually has a lot of extra details in addition to a god setting description, to give more juice to players;

Good. Wink

Quote:
- Has a complex plot, and people are guided to follow it, not pushed;

I'd suggest 'which people are guided to follow, not pushed'. 'It' looks a bit out of place.

Quote:
- Almost always screens players, asking for post examples before they are allowed to join to make sure they'll fit with the style of the game.

I'd suggest a comma between 'join' and 'to'.

Quote:
Though the players are the one writing most of the story, the GM (game master) is the one in charge of the game, and thus of keeping its level. That obviously means he needs to talk with the players and ask the ones who make mistakes to correct them, and ban them if nothing else work, but the easiest way to make sure you get the right kind of players is with a good setting.

I'd say 'this'. Also, I'd split up the sentences and make the whole part about the easiest way to get the right kind of players a new sentence.

Quote:
If your introduction posts are all confused and barely contained any information about the games, chances are you'll get lower level players.

The first verb is present simple, the other is in the past tense. Either make them both present, or both past.

Quote:
If however you make a good setting, with lots of details, clear rules and a good introduction to your story, you'll probably get higher level players, or maybe a few lower level ones, but they will know what kind of post you expected from them and will most likely stick to it.

I'd suggest switching if and however around and then add a comma between them.

@Silly: Yeah, after reading a bit more I decided to take a little more initiative though. xP

@All: Okay, I edited the nudity portion of the rules. If everyone agrees to these general rules, then I'll post them.

Basically, guys, what I'll be doing with the roleplays from here out is answering questions on the specifics of rules and trying to lend a hand here and there.

The guides are great. Once something is agreed upon, I can make a sticky in the forum crediting... This thread? I'd like to, because everything is collaborative in here. There would just be some text at the bottom thanking the people here for the roleplay renovation or something. Is that fine?

And I'll be posting all of the rules lists for you all to review and recreate. I'll edit them further from there, post the new rules, and once they're okay-ed I'll post them in the forum. We won't be cleaning it up until new rules are made.

Thanks again for all of your help. ^_^ I'm happy to see members doing so much to help a forum that they enjoy.

Welcome to the Role Player's Paradise!

Here is where you have all your roleplaying fun! However, first some ground rules:
  1. No spamming. This should be pretty well known, considering all the other forums have it in their forum rules.
  2. We do not tolerate anything that goes beyond PG-13 standards.
    --No cybering. This means that nudity of sexual nature is not permitted.
    --Drugs, violence, and bad language are permitted, but should be kept at a minimum.
  3. Roleplays closed off to the public (1x1 or small group roleplays) are not permitted in this forum. Please place them in the Private Roleplays subforum.
  4. Anything out of character belongs in the OOC Threads subforum.
  5. If you don't want utter and complete literacy, stay in the main Roleplay forum. The only exception to this rule is in the case of private roleplays, which - regardless of literacy - belong in the Private Roleplays subforum.
  6. Place everything that is not created by you in quote boxes. This includes posts that contain the profiles of all users in the roleplay.

Thank you, and I hope y'all will enjoy roleplaying with each other! :]

Welcome to the Advanced Roleplaying forum!

So you're looking for more literate or serious kind of roleplays, eh? Well, you've come to the right forum!

Here is basically where the more advanced and literate roleplays go.

The rest of the rules will basically be the same as the Role Player's Paradise forum, but here's a recap anyways.
1. BE LITERATE. Especially in this forum.
2. Roleplays stay PG-13; if you wanna go above the rating...take it to your email accounts.
3. The most roleplay clothing you'll be allowed to remove is the roleplay shoes and socks. Nothing more.
4. OoC threads belong in their respective forum, not here.
5. 1x1 roleplays belong in their respective forum, not here.

More will come if necessary.

Thanks, and enjoy your advanced roleplays! :]

1x1 wrote:
Welcome to the 1x1 RPs forum!

So I know some people particularly enjoy these kind of roleplays, so here's an individual forum specifically for them.

Some things you should know/do:
Please keep all 1x1 roleplays in here, or else they'll be moved here.
If you want to discuss plot and stuff, I think it'd be best to just do it over pms cause there's really no point to do it in the OoC Threads forum since it'd just be a conversation between two people which can be done over pms.
Please put the two people involved in the 1x1 roleplay in the title of the thread so admins, mods, and other users know who's in which 1x1 roleplays.
Please keep all 1x1 roleplays at a PG-13 rating. So please keep the roleplay shirts and pants on; HOWEVER, if you really want clothes to take off, you may take off the roleplay socks and shoes ONLY.
No spamy roleplays.

Thanks, and have an awesome time with your 1x1 roleplays! :]

This forum is good for discussion of what's to come in your roleplay's plot, recruiting members for your roleplay, looking for roleplay partners, and anything else of the sort.

Thank you and have a great time being out of character! :]

Kind is not plural, therefore it should be this, not these. This/these refers to kind, not roleplays due to the use of 'of'.
I'd also suggest skipping the first 'So'.

Skip "I think", or it may seem as if other staffmembers believe otherwise.
Also, shouldn't it be PMs?
Quote:

I don't think 1x1 in the first sentence is necessary, since you already mentioned "two people".
I am not certain if it is wrong, but I'd suggest going for singular form, roleyplay, here.

Quote:

Spammy. Wink

Also, weren't we going for a private rp forum instead of 1x1? If so, a couple of details here and there should be changed.

A sentence started with 'and' does not look well. I'd suggest 'Also, don't spam.' there.
I also believe that the comma after roleplay partners is not necessary.

So you're looking for more literate or serious kind of roleplays, eh? Well, you've come to the right forum!

Here is basically where the more advanced and literate roleplays go.

I suggest changing 'here' to 'this'.

Needs a space between ... and take.

4. OoC threads belong in their respective forum, not here.
5. 1x1 roleplays belong in their respective forum, not here.

Like I say in the original rules, I'd use you are instead of you'll be, for that makes it seem, at least to some people, as this makes it seem as if it will be allowed sometime in the future, but not yet.

Quote:

Thanks, and enjoy your advanced roleplays! :]

Right now, thanks looks out of place. Maybe changing it to 'thanks for reading' would be useful.

Also, once the guide is up and sticky-fied, I'd suggest linking to it in all rules from both the main RP forum and its sub-forums.

Quote:

Again I suggest this.

Quote:
1. No spamming. This should be pretty well known, considering all the other forums have it in their forum rules.

Considering how, or considering that. Right now the sentence is incorrect.

Quote:
2. We do not tolerate anything that goes beyond PG-13 standards.
--No cybering. This means that nudity of sexual nature is not permitted.
--Drugs, violence, and bad language are permitted, but should be kept at a minimum.

Here you refer to the Private Roleplays forum, while the rules of that forum still read 1x1 RPs Forum and the rules of that forum are also written as such.

Quote:
4. Anything out of character belongs in the OOC Threads subforum.

I'd suggest specifying that searching for RPers for your RP, RP partners and such does also belong there. Yes, it is not in-character, but I think this rule is not clear enough for some people.

Quote:
5. If you don't want utter and complete literacy, stay in the main Roleplay forum. The only exception to this rule is in the case of private roleplays, which - regardless of literacy - belong in the Private Roleplays subforum.

I think that 'is the case of', instead of 'is in the case of', would flow better.

Quote:
6. Place everything that is not created by you in quote boxes. This includes posts that contain the profiles of all users in the roleplay.

Thank you, and I hope y'all will enjoy roleplaying with each other! :]

Again, I suggest 'Thank you for reading'.

Also, I noticed that in some cases, the rules are numbered, in others are just listed.

Chu, that is fine. I am glad to help you. I'd also be fine with the text at the bottom thanking the people here.

Silly, only the first set of rules was revised. XD The others were the old ones created by an old admin. I was planning on having them all simply re-written. They're mainly here to provide a base for the new rules. Sorry for the confusion.

I'll go back and re-write them to the best of my ability though.

Thanks Silly! Bouncy Heart
I think I corrected everything. Just tell me if you find anything else that needs to be changed.

And I think it would be really nice to thank the people who have helped us with this. After all, they deserve it.

BTW, Chu, how do you suggest we work for the future advanced role-plays? I think I suggested somewhere that all role-plays should be posted at first in the general role-play forum and, once they have gathered a certain amount of pages/posts, the GM can contact a mod and ask for his game to be moved in the Advanced forum. Like that, we would have something to work with when we decide if a role-play is placed correctly. Though, if we work like that, it should obviously be added to the rules...

Chu, oh, okay. In that case, I will see what I can do on rewriting those. It certainly does explain a lot. xD

You are welcome, Maeve, the gammar-expert. xD Nah, I understand, such things happen to everyone. I typed probaly in my haste somewhere today, not here though. I'll notify you if I find anything else, but if I missed it reading the guide the first four times, I have little hope of finding it now.

And indeed, there are a good lot of things we are changing and once it is decided to go through with them, a good chunk of the rules will have to be rewritten again.

That's a good idea in theory, but I have a feeling that in practice it may fall apart. Issues that I can see arising with it are:

-Users unhappy that their advanced roleplays have to be clumped in with regular ones
-Less roleplays, and thus less activity, in all of the forums as a result of ^
-Clutter in the regular forum
-An annoying amount of work on the part of the users to get the thread moved
-A lot more work for the mods

We could try it, but I think what we're doing now would be best. If we see any threads in the advanced forum that don't belong there, depending on the degree of rule-breaking, we would move them or contact the owner about changing them.

Though I don't think it would be much more work on the part of the users, I understand what you're saying. My idea could work nicely for a small group like we are now, but it would probably fall apart if/when we get more members, and thus more work.

Yeah, that's mainly how I was thinking of it.

Well, since you're the roleplayer I consider it mainly yours and Cat's decision. xP I'm just here to help out with whatever is decided.
