| Quinn paused as they passed the derelect comic book store. She was quite disheartened to see the building in such a state. As much as she wanted to enter, she knew that she would only be asking for problems. The store looked like it was going to collapse at any second. There are other stores you can check. Let's leave the deathtrap alone. Realizing she was being left behind, she hurried after the adults. She hoped they could decide on a haven soon.
The further they moved from the inner city, the quieter things were. There were still zombies roaming around. And buildings were in various states of destruction, but they might be able to take cover. But, where are the other people? There's got to be more survivors than this. And we haven't seen enough zeds. Where the heck is everyone?! The teenager was getting very unnerved by the situation. Behind them, a group of undead shuffled after them. Periodically they were joined by others.
"Uh, guys? I don't mean to be a pain in the ass, but we need to find a place to hide soon. We're beginning to attract a horde," She moved a bit closer to the others, not wanting to call attention to the humans by talking too loud.

| Kai sat quietly on the roof top as the others left him. He hadn't intended on following them in the first place. The roof had just been a good place to stay before the zombies set in. He knew it would have given him time to think before the end came.
He thought enough. He was ready to meet up with his family in a different place. He could hear the zombies close in around him as he laid back and closed his eyes and whispered under his breath, "I'm coming, I love you."

| Hal's eyes widened a bit. She was right. They seemed a lack luster but they were zombies nonetheless. Thinking hard, he whispered, "Follow me," and meandered toward an alleyway.

| An alley? Are you mad? Quinn held her tongue, not wanting to disturb the mans' concentration. If he had an idea, she was willing to go along with it. Hopefully he wouldn't lead them to a dead end.
Meanwhile the zombies slowly shuffled after the humans that disappeared around the corner. Their hollow cries alerted other zombies, making the horde grow in size.

| ((alrighty then, we won't leave her behind ))
Hal zipped through a maze, making sure the others were keeping up behind him. He'd once worked in the area so he knew the shortcuts and hiding places quite well. There were dozens of paths back to the street but there were also dead ends, secret paths, and back doors.
The finally came upon a cellar door. It was made of iron and very heavy, not to mention the lock that kept it closed. He ripped a pin out of his hair, he always had one handy, and started picking the lock.
No one be in there, it used to be a storage area for a winery that went of business. As a good friend of the family who owned it, they gave him the cellar, he'd get the key but it didn't always work...
He fiddle quickly with the lock.

There were several exits out, four other ways all with different types of doors. They'd best leave something nasty by the weaker ones and block them.
The whining of the zombies that had been trying to find them were getting louder...
He fiddle quickly with the lock.

| No. Not a cellar! Anything but a cellar! Don't you people know anything about zombie apocalypses?! Quinn bit her lip, nervously. "Uhm, there's more than one way into this place right? We're not going to be trapped after closing the door behind us?" The teen could not help but ask. She listened as the moans of the zombies came closer. Who bloody cares! They're coming now! We'll fight about it when we're inside.
She dug her hands into her pockets hoping to find...YES! She did have them! "Move over!" Quinn stated, firmly, but gently pushing the man out of the way. He might have had a way with pins, but they were nothing in comparison to an actual lockpick set with tension wrenches. She sorted through her picks until she found the one she was looking for and worked on the lock. Damn thing needs some charcoal or some WD40. The lock clicked open.

| Hal was pushed aside and he watched the way they'd come nervously. The groaning and hissing was getting louder.
He hear the click as the woman opened the lock and he ripped it off the door as fast as he could and pulled the cellar doors open.
"Hurry, get in!" He whispered. There was a chance that the zombies were somewhere else, not just down the alley. He'd made dozens of twists and turns on the way and the piles of trash stank to the heavens. Even a zombie wouldn't be able to catch a whiff of human through rotting fruit, spoiled milk and expired meats.
Cola was in to the cellar first, happy to be somewhere that hadn't changed, and as Clara hopped in too, Hal looked to the woman. "Hurry!"

| Quinn barely had enough time to pull her tools out of the lock before it was wrenched out of the door. The teenager halted just long enough to put her tools back in her pocket before climbing into the cellar after Clara and the dog. She helped the man pull the heavy doors closed. Then she sighed.
I don't care how crazy thick those doors are. This is not a good place to be. Quinn shook her head. "Um, so.. where are we, exactly?" She asked in a low voice. Her eyes ahd not yet adjusted to being inside, after running around outside.

| Once they were in and had shut the doors, Hal barred them in with a large and thick chunk of metal. There was a type of holder that would lock it in place once the metal was slid through the handles of the door.
Hal groped around on the tables he knew were against the wall and found his lantern. Once he clicked it on the room was filled with a faint glow.
"It's an old wine cellar a friend of mine gave me. It's pretty big. Used to be a rebel hideout or something," He said to answer the woman's question. "It's got four exits, two are finger print coded with carbon steel and once you get through it you have to go through a uranium one to get in here. Rather, the corridor a little ways off." He grinned a bit weakly. "Yet another maze."
After a moment of looking around Hal decided to put the lantern on top of the lone wine rack so it could illuminate the entire room, however dimly.
There was no noise from the outside, leading him to believe that the zombies had confused themselves and gone the wrong way while trying to follow them.
"The other two doors are uranium as well. One leads out to the coast and the one is another cellar door, a double layered one, that lets out around the Big Apple."

| Quinn listened to the man not sure if she ought to be confused, excited, or mortified. Even for a rebel hideout, this place is nuts! Who were they rebelling against to need all this stuff in a wine cellar?! Fingerprint coded doors? Uranium?! What kind of person did I get involved with? And what kind of friends does he have? Technically the cellar would have been integrated into the hideout. But still.
"Um, isn't uranium radioactive?" She asked, instead. All she really knew about it was that it was used in nuclear weapons and stuff like that. I swear if he says he's from Umbrella or Shinra I'm out of here.
The teenager sat down, exhaused. She probably wouldn't get up anytime soon, unless promted by the promise of food or a shower.

| The teenager rested her grimy head against the cool wall. She closed her eyes, trying to come up with something remotely looking like a backup zombie take-over plan. She made a mental list of things she believed they needed, and things she came up with after getting firsthand experience fighting with them. She wondered if there were any sporting good stores nearby.
As she sat, Quinn's stomach let out an angry growl. You shut up. How can you even thing of food at a time like this?! Her ears burned, giving her the impression that she was blushing furiously. First things first. Shower, haircut, rise off, mmmm....sleep then eat? Or eat then sleep? Haircut... She looked over at Clara. Like Quinn, the other woman had long hair. Even the guy, Hal, had longish hair.
"Uh, I don't mean to bring up a sore point, or something that will probably end up being a sore point," Quinn began. She wasn't sure how to word her train of thought very well. And she wasn't sure if the others would take offense to her suggestion. "Well, uh... It's going to be in our best interest to cut our hair really short. Nothing like a buzz cut or anything, but something close." Quinn waited for a reply. Please, don't bite my head off. Please?

| "Not really." Hal said dismissively about the uranium. "It's a weak radiation. I think it was put in because of 9/11. Uranium is supposed to lessen the effects of higher radiation or something so it would be nice to have if we got hit with an atomic bomb or something."
They were all quiet for a while until the woman's stomach growled. He couldn't help but smile to himself as went to dig through his back pack. He wet his hands with one of the water bottles just enough to get the blood off before searching for brought up the hair topic. Hal only blinked and picked up a few strands. even in this terribly lit cellar he could tell it was soaked in blood.
"Why?" he asked. "I get that it might be less of hassle though."
He found an apple and handed it to the woman. "Here, though you might want to wash your hands first." He lifted the water bottle a bit.
