| The doctor and the security guard quickly finished their meeting. Andrea exited the office and went back to her usual duty, watching security cameras and making sure they were working this time. Dr. Black started by filling in some paperwork, the usual after a meeting like that, and then sat down with a larger file on her lap, containing all the notes she had taken about mutants, especially about life-bringers. Something in what Lei was saying had awoken the researcher's curiosity, and she needed to find out more about this strange ability. Quickly, she shifted through the pages, looking for some of her older notes, getting lost in her thoughts and loosing sense of time and everything else.

| As the night fell on the school and everyone went to sleep, a shadow appeared on the campus. Soon, it was followed by other shadows, walking down the paved roads and getting closer to the buildings. Nobody had any time to react when a fire suddenly broke at the four corners of the school, quickly spreading through the buildings. The fire alarm resonated and all the residents evacuated the dorms, massing up in the courtyard. The students that were in isolation rooms were freed by the doctors and nurses watching over them that night. Though, they were escorted outside by security guards, to prevent any escape attempt.
As the authorities were trying to regroup the kids to make sure none of them where missing, the second strike came. The earth started to shake, so slowly at first that nobody would have noticed it, but soon reaching massive proportion. The kids and personnel spread lose, trying to get as far away as possible from the buildings to prevent being crushed by falling bricks and walls. In the chaos that followed, nobody noticed the black truck rolling away, a few kids at his side.
The military authorities in charge of the school project arrived about an hour after the beginning of the disaster. They caught some of the kids and brought them back to another lab situated in the north of the U.S.A, along with the remaining personnel. Though, most of the kids had disappeared by that time. It was believed that they mostly died in the event, but the authorities also knew some of them were more likely to have escaped. However, they had other business on their hands for now.
First, the army and government took care of making sure no one had noticed what had happened at the school. At most, the media were allowed to say that a small fire had broken into the school, but in no time they were allowed to show pictures of it or say anything about the "special" kids residing there. Since the school was somewhat remote from the nearest town, very few people had heard anything of what was going on that night anyway. An investigation team was sent on the field the next day, to determine what had caused those strange event. They looked at the traces they could found, but nothing could explained why those things had happened. And from what the army and research group knew of the mutant kids, none of them could have done such a thing. Before they could find a suitable explanation, a strange message started to resonate, first on some underground radios, but quickly propagating through more and more media.
"We are here," the deep, manly voice said, "and we are here to stay." At first, people thought it was some advertising campaign, but the people working in the media knew it was something else. It was like if someone took the control of the waves, for a short period of time, just enough to pass the message. And soon, the message started to appear in newspapers. Then, some popular TV stations got the same kind of problem, a black silhouette appearing on the screen for a few second, repeating "We are here, and we are here to stay." The medias didn't talk much about it, but they hired investigators and communication specialists, thinking it was only a hacker breaking into their systems. Then, on June 21st of the year 2024, all the radio stations and TV channels worldwide broadcast the same short spot.
"We are here," the black silhouette said, "and we are here to stay. We were created by you, for you, to serve as your guinea pigs and to help you survive. No one ever cared about us, about what happened to us, about how many of us died for your own profit." A long silence followed, leaving people the time to analyze what had just been said. "Today, we have decided to speak, and to force you to listen. And we officially want to say: IT IS OVER! We will no longer be your slaves, your lab rats! We will no longer suffer for you! We are free, and will free all of our brothers and sisters you still hold captive. And we will make you pay for what you have done. The Renegades are here." Then the screens came black and the radios turned off for a few minutes, before returning to the normal programming.
In the following weeks, many small crimes happened. Fires, thefts, small fights. The authorities did their best to look in control of the situation, and it worked for some time. Though, when people started to disappear, or to be found dead, the population started to worry. Most of them didn't remember much of the Renegades message, but the few who did started to spread rumors on the internet. Most of those rumors were just crazy things, saying that the Renegades were aliens coming to kill us all, but a few suggested it was a new terrorist group or something like that, trying to take control of our civilized world. And they were not far from the truth.
On August 21st, two months exactly after the first declaration of the Renegades, a top secret file was found by a reporter. It contained information about the mutants experimentations, about the school and labs. The reporter immediately decided to publish the scoop on his blog, thinking it would bring him wealth and popularity. Soon, the great medias of all countries were talking about the secret researches. The army and government tried to control them as best as they could, denying the truth of the secret information, but their was always a leak somewhere. Reporters were doing more and more investigations, and one of them even found one of the first scientist to work on the project for a special interview. Though the old man didn't say much, he confirmed the existence of experimentations on mutants. The effect on the population was terrible.
People started to worry about mutants and a general state of panic started to emerge, and the Renegades didn't help. They were now doing bigger attacks and hacking multiple stations and channels, always repeating their message. The people started to become angry and doubtful toward their government. A massive chaos invaded the civilized world when the Renegades destroyed all the governmental agencies and buildings on September 21st. Though very few people were harmed during those events, the power of the underground group had something to frighten everyone. Most of the countries had lost their government, and the few that were still standing didn't have much to work with, having lost their communication network. The army and police departments were doing all they could to control the population, with very little success. Soon, people started to form small armed group, defending themselves against others and trying to protect the few goods they had.
In the evening of October 21st, a new announcement was broadcast worldwide, this time made by a group of countries in an attempt to regain some control. A man in his late fifties, dressed in a military uniform, bald with a thick moustache and clean-cut beard, was sitting in front of the camera. "Citizens of the Earth," he started his speech, "I am the General McKenzie, of the United States Army. I'll act today as a spokesman for the G20. The recent months have been difficult for everyone. The Renegades have done many damages to our authorities and, we must admit, we were not prepared for such massive attacks. For that, we want to say we are sorry." He paused for a couple of seconds, before pursuing: "However, it is now time for us to reply. The armies of the G20, along with other allied countries, have been fused together, under my control. We will now deploy in all countries and bring security back into our streets." As he said those world, helicopters and planes landed near the bigger cities, while trucks entered smaller ones. Soldiers from all origins deployed in the streets of all cities, starting their patrols and fighting back the few rioters they found.
The General finished his message, signifying that this was only the beginning. In the next few days, it seemed that everything had returned to normal. People were reassured by the constant presence of soldiers and started to clean everything, returning to their normal lives. The global authorities were quite pleased with the results, but they knew far too well that the Renegades would not go away so easily. Plus, rumors of other groups were running through the population, some groups trying to kill all mutants, some trying to befriend them, some mutants trying to stop other mutants, etc. Nevertheless, they trusted the General and left him in charge of everything. The man reunited military leader from all over the world, as well as scientists that had worked with the mutants, and started working on a plan to stop the Renegades. His group was called the G.I.G, or Global Intervention Group, and worked closely with the population to rebuild what had been destroyed and ensure security.

| A year has passed since the first event happened at the school. Most of the mutant children have been relocated to a secret facility in the north of the U.S.A, where the experimentations on them are still going on. However, some of them are still missing. The authorities believe they probably live on their own somewhere in the wilderness, but fear some might have joined the Renegades. The world is now split into five groups, each working to achieve their goals.
The Renegades: Made exclusively of mutants, the Renegades want to liberate their kind from what they consider slavery. They also seem to have some secret goals, though a lot suggest that they simply want to take over the world. They generally believe that the normal humans are a lower specie and that the mutants are more evolved, though not all of the Renegades want to hurt humans. Very few information are known about them, but they seem to have massive power and a good organization.
The G.I.G: The Global Intervention Group is made mostly of army men and scientists, though some special units are said to be made of mutants or "enhanced" soldiers. Their goal is to protect humanity, though they don't necessarily believe that the mutants should be completely eliminated. The G.I.G is lead by the General McKenzie with the accord and help of the G20 countries, but very few information about it are known by the public, for obvious safety reasons.
The Guardians: The Guardians are a small group of mutants and normal humans trying to help mutants. When the Renegades destroyed the school and some research facilities, some mutants decided to join them, but others decided to run away. Others were simply never part of any known experimentation, being the simple result of evolution and environmental contamination. The Guardians offer them a place to live, drugs and treatments for those that need them, and try to reinsert them in the "normal" world when it's possible. The Guardians were fonded partially by Dr. Black and it is were most of the missing kids ended up. The Guardians are still a relatively small organization and work mostly underground, to prevent authorities from finding them.
The Watchers: The Watchers are a group of humans, not part of the G.I.G or any other organization, that seek to destroy all mutants. They appeared when the authorities lose control of the security, as a small group that tried to protect what was left of society. When the G.I.G deployed its troops, the Watchers went underground, but they continued to recruit new members and supporters. They have scientists working for them, as well as some highly trained mercenaries and soldiers. They don't like the G.I.G, considering it is too "soft" with the mutants. There are no known leader of the Watchers, though the rumors say they were first part of the army but decided to leave because of their own convictions.
The "Normals": The wide majority of the population, made of the people who are not part of any group and don't know much about the mutants and conflicts going on. They live their normal lives and don't worry much about the rest.

| ((We are re-opened!!! So you can post now! Just update your character profile before, please.))
It was still early in the morning when the woman woke up. Her eyes opened slowly as she reached her hand to grab the alarm clock on her side table. 4AM, she read with a sigh.
She closed her eyes, but quickly realized she wasn't going to fall back asleep. She got up slowly and stretched her arms and back, before grabbing some clothes and heading to the nearby bathroom.
After a short shower, she dressed up and returned to her room, looking for her small notebook. She quickly found it on the bed's side table where she had left it. She sighed as her eyes moved to the clock. 4:30 only. The day was going to be long.
She exited her room, locking the door behind her, and headed to her office. It felt a bit strange, finally having a safe place to sleep and work, but she quickly chased those thoughts from her mind. She had things to finish before anyone wakes up. The woman sat behind her desk, placing her notebook on it and starting to read and write some things in it.

| I can't stand it. Jordan grumbled as she got out of bed. A soft bed and a safe haven to just be oneself was nice. But being inside all the time was slowly eating away at the puma hybrid's patience. Need to get out of here. Leave them. Better off by ourselves, her other half stated, not for the first or last time. I TOLD you why we couldn't do that. Now be quiet, the young woman sighed. The urge to go outside was increasing each day.
The mutant wondered what time it was, as she pulled her clothes on. She had accidentally smashed her last clock when the alarm startled her, the week before. Though she supposed that it was partially her own fault for not checking to see if the alarm was set before going to sleep. All the same, she believed it was in some time in the morning. Tail twitching in irritation, she stepped out in to the hall. By the lack of people, the hybrid mused that it was very early indeed. Throwing the rules out the proverbial window, Jordan decided to run to let out some pent up energy. If no one was awake, there would be no one to get mad, she figured. She closed the door behind her and took off like a shot down the quiet corridor.

| Anne-Marie lifted her head as she heard something. Soon enough, a shadow passed in front of her office's door, too fast for her to understand what - or who - it was. She got up, placing her glasses back on her nose and headed to the door. Looking down the hall through the case, she realized what she had seen was probably Jordan, mostly because of the large tail in her back. She was about to call the girl, when a little voice in her told her it was not a good idea.
She will come to you when she's ready. And she needs some space, the doctor as she watched the girl disappeared around a corner. "I should find her something to do," she added out loud, heading back behind her desk and turning the computer on. Surely there was something the mutant girl could do to help, and having a chance to do something would be good for her mind.

| Running inside was never the same as running outside, no matter how nice the place was. The air currents were fake. The smells were not the same. And there was constant hum of electrical currents that annoyed the puma woman to the point where she almost always had her ears folded against her skull. True it gave the appearance that she was angry all the time. But it couldn't be helped. It was either that, or have headaches all the time.
Jordan sprinted around the complex until she just about tired herself out. she sighed and ran a clawed hand trough her hair. She turned around and started jogging leisurly back to her room. It was still too early to eat, even though her bestial half was beginning to make suggestions about hunting something down, to feed. I don't know how to hunt, and neither do you, she scowled. The statment wasn't entierly true, as she did know the basic idea. But without actual practice, she wouldn't get very far. She huffed slightly and continued her trek back past different rooms and offices. The hybrid began to walk as she heard the movements of other inhabitants. No need to be scolded for running in the halls, even if all I'm doing if jogging.

| Lei woke up in her small room. It wasn't as big as the one she had at the school, but it was only for her, so she had enough space to do all she wanted. And she didn't regret the school one second, after what had happened there. Though, she still wondered sometimes what had happened to the other students after the events.
The young girl got up and stretched, then she headed to the chest with her clothes in it and took a random pair of jeans, a T-shirt and some underwear. She quickly put them on and replaced her hair. She took some time to look herself up in the small mirror. She looked tired, as always since she had lost Illya, but the rest was fine.
The little girl sighed and headed for the door. She quickly exited the room, stumbling upon Jordan as she did. Making a step back, she said: "Oh, I'm sorry," blushing a little in surprise. She didn't think anyone would be up by now. When she realized it was Jordan though, she calmed down and added: "Oh, hi Jordan!" with her usual cheerful voice.

| The hybrid was arguing with her counterpart as she walked. She reasoned that why she she was able to avoid being hit by the sudden opening door, but not the person leaving the room. She usually a bit quicker than that. Jordan huffed slightly when a smaller mutant bumped into her. Her senses let her know it was Lei before the other had a chance to speak. The puma woman gave the younger girl a reassuring grin, which probably looked a bit frightening to people who weren't used to her. "Hey, Lei. Don't worry about it. I wasn't exactly paying attention either. How are you?"

| Jordan shrugged. "I can't complain, I suppose." Wouldn't do me any good even if I did. She had chosen to ignore the discomfort she had smelt coming from the younger girl. There was no helping the way she looked. So, she lived with people being startled, if not outright frightened by her appearance. "I needed to get rid of some extra energy."

| "Oh," Lei simply said. She knew the mutants with animal DNA often needed do a lot of physical exercises to get rid of extra amount of energy, so Jordan's comment didn't surprised her all that much. Though, she guessed the animal part in them didn't like being indoor too. And thinking about it, she didn't like it much either, but the outside where not a good place for mutants right now, even if the young girl didn't know much about what was really going on outside.
As the young girl was about to talk, Dr. Black appeared around the corner and headed toward them. The corridor with the rooms in it was also the easiest way to reach the kitchen area, where the doctor was going. "Morning girls," the woman said with a smile as she approached them. "You're up early today," she added, stopping beside them. She hesitated a bit, before adding: "Oh, Jordan, I have something for you. Just come to my office later and we can talk about it, ok?"
Lei waved at the doctor but didn't say anything. She frowned a bit at the woman's last sentence, still not liking it when doctors asked to see mutants alone. Though she trusted Dr. Black, she would have preferred to know what was going on.
Apparently the doctor had not noticed her look, or had decided to ignore it, as she suggested heading to the kitchen to eat something.

| Jordan's ears twitched when she heard someone else approaching. She turned to see Dr. Black walk around the corner. "Morning," she replied to the womans' greeting. Her ears pricked upright when she was singled out. She thought she'd been caught running again, and she was going to be scolded. At the mention of something for her, the hybrid felt a bit confused, and her posture showed it. Her head tilted to the side and her ears sat lopsided on her head. As much as she liked Dr. Black, she wasn't as keen on doctors or at least as comfortable as she used to be. "Uhm, alright. I'll stop by later."
The hybrid ran a hand through her hair and folded her ears back to their normal position. Traitors.
Food. We need it, the puma growled at her, at the doctors' suggestion to eat. "Breakfast sound good, right about now," Jordan replied to the offer.

| "Good then," the doctor said with a smile, leading the way to the kitchen. Unlike in their past life at the school, no one was in charge of making meals for the Guardians, or of doing the usual cleaning and dusting for that matters. Their group was just too small for that, though some individuals seemed to appreciate taking care of those shores.
Dr. Black walked into the kitchen, turning the lights on as she entered. She headed to the counter and grabbed three plates, placing them on the large island placed in the middle of the kitchen. "So, what will you girls take?" she asked gently.

| Jordan looked at Lei and back at the doctor. Meat, lots of it. Bloody raw and hot. I can't do that! That'll make me sick. Even if it was feasible, the human part of the hybrid wasn't too keen on eating something that was freshly killed. The thought made her stomach roll. She shook her head, quieting her counterpart. She thought for a bit about her options. She could probably make some of the items herself, even if the doctor offered.
"I'd go for something with a lot of meat, maybe some scrambled eggs and a fruit bowl," Jordan replied. "I could probably give you a hand with that." She gave up on salads, as neither one of her personas cared for them, and they kind of upset her insides. Milk products did the same thing. That's not to say the fruit wouldn't do the same, but she needed to get her nutrients somehow. And she wasn't keen on swallowing a bunch of suppliments.
