What use does the thief class have

So what good is the thief class? What benifits do you get? How do you use the thief skill?

There was a major problem with the theif skill (you could get donation items for free if the skill was high enough) so it had to be taken away, so the class is relatively useless now.

The other classes give you varying stat bonuses depending on what they are.
