| Dania picked up a strong looking piece of wood and got out her carver. She had decided to make an arrow along the way.

| Midway through the day, Beslan slowed down slightly to get some dried food out of one of the packs. He handed half of it to Dania and began eating the rest.

| Dania ate a bit of hers, but left the rest for later. When she drew her attention to the unfinished arrow, she realized she had left it too thick in some parts, and had carved out too much in other parts, so it was irregular. She tossed it away mumbled something gloomily.

| Beslan wrapped his cloak around him, lay down on the other side of the trail, and fell asleep as well.

| Soon before dawn, Dania got up. She glanced over at Beslan who was still sound asleep. An owl fluttered to a low branch on a tree. 'Hello. How are you?' she asked in the elven language. The owl cooed, 'Sleepy. Dawn comes soon, sleep time soon.' Then it shuddered. 'What's wrong?' asked Dania. The owl gazed at her. 'You are in deep pain. Something horrible happened to you. Such anguish reflected in your eyes.' Dania sighed. She reached for the seeds in her pocket. The owl fluttered away, just as the first ray of sun peeped out.

| Beslan was in the habit of waking up at dawn or slightly before, and he decided to stay down for a moment longer. He heard Dania talk to the owl, though he had such a limited understanding of Elvish he didn't know what was said. Only once the owl left did he open his eyes.
