You can win a hairpiece item from the battle system, which you can read up on HERE. It should tell you how to make a character and all that jazz. And if you need a weapon, don't fret. There is an extremly cheap one in the "Newbie Store" that you can buy for only 5 copper. (Copper is earned in the "Fun and Games" fourm as a lesser forum of currency)

Annnnnd the other items can be won from the moderators if you participate in some of the contests.
