User and Character integration

This was asked in Feb and I would like to get the current thoughts.

I would like to have the board more integrated with the ADR.

I would like to make the two more seamless with items and events.

I think a lot of people don't understand the benefits and possibilities this opens up, but I think it's a great idea, perhaps you could explain a little more and maybe give some examples? ^3^

I think it depends on what you'd do.

A lot of people here like ADR, a lot of people don't. Some come here just to battle while others want to only use the forums and their avatar.

I think if it was too heavily integrated, you'd drive a lot of people away.

I know that I personally don't want to sit here clicking a button for 5 hours waiting to get an event item. I'd also like to know that when I go to equip an item I'm not going to get thrown in jail for heresy and be stoned in the courthouse. -.-

But I think some more prevalence by ADR's other features would be nice. More random quests, items that affect things outside of our characters (like your Raffle Ticket), etc.

I agree it shouldn't be too heavily integrated, but if it was at least more than it is now it opens up the room for a lot of cool new features. :3

I believe that in order to get a good opinion on the matter, we need some examples on what you're going to do. :3 I know for a fact that, like Angel said, some uesrs don't like using the battle system, and that could drive them away.

One thing that is planned is to have character names and usernames the same.
And also it would be more like integrating the forum into ADR. Make it more streamline, and also hopefully give us the ability to do more things that we couldn't before.
So no, Midorea won't become centered around the battle system. It will just be a bit more balanced between the two.

See, all I can think of is the character name and username thing. I would like that. Anything else on, I don't even know about.

I'm fine with whatever though, as long as Midorea still has a strong community that isn't focused on getting as many kills or drops as possible.

It would allow me to do things like, have quests in the ADR system that would require users to make post. I would also like there to be at least 2 ways to get items. Such as, the quickest and easiest way would be combat, but there would also be a random chance you got an item while posting, or just browsing the site. I hate clicky combat as much as the next person, and don't plan on making that a requirement to enjoy the board.

With the names the same, it would make the board events and the ADR events have cohesion. Right now your avatar is what you see when you battle, in a RP aspect, how did your character get those? Because your board name won something?

Those who don't care about ADR will not notice anything.
Those who spend most of their time in ADR will have more things to do in ADR instead of just fighting monsters.
Those who spend their time in both will see the benefit of having things they do on either side reflected on both.

I don't want ADR to be a reason to get silver or items, but one of the reasons people come to Midorea.

That's great then! I know that people don't like the battle system, but maybe if the forums are reflected in it more they'd have more interest in it.

This would also get rid of the problem with events being too forum or battle oriented.

Interesting idea, though perhaps have a trial phase where it's implemented for a month or so and after that feedback and opinions are taken and if most people like it, then stick with it, but if most don't then revert back to what is currently used?

Cause all I see in this thread is mainly the moderators giving their opinions.. :/

As Angel said, it's up to users to post their opinions on the situation. Also, I consider myself to be a user before a moderator. A green name doesn't change my opinion on the situation at all and shouldn't seem to change it.

Trust me, I'm not afraid to speak up when I don't agree with something. ;D Cat just tends to make good decisions most of the time, haha.

But I digress. The thread was put here in order to get feedback from users. XD Plus, Angel's not a mod. I can't see why users wouldn't want to post in this thread to offer feedback, but we can't force them to.

I'm all for the change so that things can be more seamless. I don't mind the battle system but I prefer the forums. However, I like everything in websites I frequent to flow well. I don't want to feel like I've gone to a whole other website whenever I battle, and it almost feels that way. I also know that the battle system could be made a lot more interesting with this change, and I really hope it happens so that things can be made more fun. :]

Yeah, but to make a decision just based on a handful of users' decisions? And that handful being consisted of almost all staff? Seems more bias than anything else.

Perhaps what needs to be done is to move this into the announcement forum that everyone reads and asks for opinions there. Since most people check the announcement forum compared to the feedback & suggestions forum. n_n;;;

The topic has been addressed in official poll forums before. I may be wrong, but this one and this one have touched on the results of this change.

And I'm sorry but I still don't see how any of this is biased. :/

Also, this decision has been on Cat's mind for a while. There have been threads before. Gryphon is just gathering more current feedback, and I don't believe he's allowed to post in that forum. I see your point as to why it should be there, but if there are two threads that touch on the subject already up there, then it seems kind of redundant.

Also, I have to say I doubt a trial period would work. Once something's deleted, it can't be brought back. There may be a way to do it but thinking about it from a logical yet not-so-knowledgeable standpoint, it wouldn't.
