Layout Options

I'm sure plenty of people love this new color in the layout but personally I HATE it with a passion. Can we please have the option to use one of the previous layouts instead? X__X

Maybe Cat meant that this current layout won't be REPLACED by the old one. That means the old layout might be made AVAILABLE for use instead of the current layout for individual people? I don't know Dx

Don't leave Mido for something as small as a layout. Perhaps Cat might do something about it, or I don't know honestly > w<
But, I don't really see how this could make people leave? Unless something irritates you.

It's sad that a layout would make you leave, but I suggest voicing what you don't like about it instead of just leaving. You have the right to do whatever you want though. ^^

A sites layout is NOT small its a huge thing. This site has always had layout issues in my opinion. I had thought that Cat was finally going in a better direction with the last one.


I dont really want this one replaced. I'm sure there are people who like it. I just want the option to use the other. I know its possible and would be relatively easy to do.

Things I dont like?

1. The brown looks like diseased diarrhea.

2. Wtf is our avatar doing floating in the ocean?

3. The green bar across the top just looks weird as hell.

4. While brown, blue and green might work well together. These particular shades dont.

I think the community is the most important part of a website, but that's simply my opinion.


1. I've encountered that to be more yellow-ish but okay. What color/shade would you suggest instead?

2. Where else could the avatar be shown? She's added a box that our avatar and currency now stand in. This layout saves a lot more space that the previous one didn't.

3. I like it. It really helps with the main navigation in my opinion.

4. I see what you mean there, but there isn't really another shade of brown that fits with the other colors. I like brown, and I think the colors look okay together. The contrast between the brown and green is something I like, and it's a lot better than having mostly bright green like in the previous layout.


The things you pointed out seem pretty small to me. Most people are enjoying this new layout, and it's still changing. Hopefully you'll decide to wait until it's finished or just get used to it, but you're free to do whatever you want.

Honestly I think the new layout is just something to get used to. Every website that gets a new layout always has people that don't like it, but after a while they grow to either like it or tolerate it.

I was shocked the first day, too. When the first changes happened, the site looked incredibly weird, to be honest. But now that the rest of the changes are coming into effect I think it's looking more cohesive, you know?

I agree with Chu that you should wait until the layout change is finished before deciding whether or not you want to leave. Maybe the shades will change or the banners will be different in the final product.

If its not finished then why was it changed? Makes absolutely no sence to me at all.

I never said the community was not important.


Id prefer to see warmer more inviting colors rather than the dark univiteing colors in this new layout. And maybe try some pastels for a change instead of oversaturated greens and blues.

It's up because Cat wanted to get feedback on the layout rather than just posting it and saying "Here it is, deal with it." ^^ She felt it would be better to get feedback to change it in ways that users like it, rather than working blind.

I see what you mean there, but I do know that these shades of green and blue are Midorea's special colors. I'm sorry, but that probably won't change.

The only problem I see with the option to use the old layout if you prefer would be that we have new pages and new features with this layout and I assume more to come in the future. It would be a lot of work to make all the new features and pages viewable in the old layout, and there would likely be things on the to-do list which would take higher priority to the majority of the user base that that would take a lot of time away from from.

My biggest peeve is the green that hurts my eyes so badly. >:

That's the reason I left Midorea in the first place. I couldn't even talk to people because I had to leave the computer every few minutes or so because of the green's brightness. Even now, the green contrasts so much with the brown and blue that it's kind of painful, though not as much as before.

I think the layout has a lot of pros, but it also has cons to go with it.

My personal opinion? Change the green to a color that matches the brown a little more...Dx

I have a work around for you.

IF you use Firefox you can go in and remove the colors completely.
First you need to the Tools Bar then to Options, then the content Tab. Click the button named colors, Then chose two colors you can live with and un click the box that says allow page to use its own selected colors AND Use system colors.

I haven't tested it to far but it looks like it might work. HOW ever you will lose the header and you might want to change the link color too.

I know you mentioned Google's browser, and I would check if it can do the same thing.

It is a suggestion if you do happen to like the site for more then just its lay out.
