| Can anyone explain this?
Back when I was in high school, I found myself about to leave for school. Outside my house I noticed something in the yard. I went to investigate and found a dead squirrel. I had lots of cats in the neighborhood, so I didn't think anything about it. It was amazingly intact at that point, just a note.
So, 6 or so hours later I return home. Something possesses me to have a look at the dead squirrel. So I go to find it. Its not there! Not too strange, right? Well, I spot it about 10 feet away or so and this is when it gets strange.
The squirrel had been split open, from the tail all the way up to the neck. It was a neat incision, no teeth marks or claws marks. And all the internal organs had been neatly removed. There was no blood on the squirrel or around it, and only the organs had been taken. The fleshy yummy parts were all still there.
It had been a school day, in the middle of the afternoon in my front lawn. What had happened to the squirrel?
Anyone have any ideas? I tell you, it was the creepiest thing.

| That... is just insane.
I would have stopped it immediately. That's unhealthy behavior for a momma cat to have and considering that she had others, I would be very worried.

| I think it's their natural instinct to dispose of the body if it died. Just like mommy dogs eat their puppy poo so that it would be clean in their habitat. Just like papa animals try to kill off their young to prevent competition in the future.
It's nature... harsh brutal nature...

Hmm.. we can only guess what happened, but maybe someone needed them for an experiment? or maybe that person was just in some kind of strange subculture and the organs were supposed to be a part of a ritual? Plus there are plenty of insane people out there... for all we know, one of them just decided to have a look at the insides of a squirrel and were fascinated by it so much they put it in their pocket and went to show off to his or hers other friends..

I know that but I still think it's gross. I know other animals do that as well.

| Ahh! My stomach is hurting so bad from reading this right now! Ugh, it's so sad that animals kill their babies that way. It's really strange, and I've always wondered why they do it. For example, one of my fish had a bunch of babies. When we first counted them there more 15 babies, which was about a month or so ago. Now, they've gotten lots bigger (but still tiny), and there are only 6 babies left. I mean, I don't really mind because the tank won't fit all of them once they're big, but it's sad that the babies get eaten or die one way or another. Cannibals!

| D: I really, really, REALLY hope that my cat doesn't do that to her kittens.
Although cannibalism is common in nature...

| Augh, I lost my appetite. D: That's horrible. Thankfully, I never had that experience when I had cats.
But once or twice, I've seen dead squirrels lying on the road. That's about it.

| Animals do that all the time, especially carnivors, if they don't get enough food!
