The cheesecake that I eat doesn't come with crust, so I'ma safely say that it's a cake.
Plus, Ms. StateTheObvious here, it has cake in it's name so why would it be a pie? >C

| Cheesecake is definitely a pie. Everything about it resembles a pie; it looks like a pie, tastes like a pie, etc. But I don't know, it could also be a cake. Then again, pies don't use dough or bread or anything (unless it's for the pie crust). Oh, and you don't even bake cheesecakes. They have to be mixed well and then refrigerated, am I right? Wow, I can't think right now, ha ha!

| Yeah, but ice cream cakes aren't baked and they're still considered cakes. =o
I always thought of em as cakes, mainly because they're cake shaped, and their texture just doesn't seem pie-ish to me.

| Well, maybe they thought of the name cheesecake because cheese pie was already taken. And yes, cheese pie tastes kind of weird (and gross). I don't recommend you trying it unless you're from Wisconsin or you really like cheese. You know what I like though? Those cheesecake pastry things. I forget what they're called, but they come in little packages and they taste so good. Oh wait, they're called a cheese danish!
Well, yeah, ice cream cakes aren't baked, but they're not pies. I love me some ice cream cake though, and I hope to be getting on for my birthday.

| Hmm. I was going to say cake at first (obviously because it has cake in the name), but then I thought it over. That's a tough one. D: But I would go with cake. A cake that tastes like a pie, that is.

I don't think it's a pie or a cake. I thought it over and it doesn't strike me as the image of a pie(I always picture a crust on top when I think of pie) and a cake(where it's made of flour and has a cakey texture.

| *ear perk up* Did someone say Key Lime Pie? I love key Lime pie!
Anyways, Is it either. The bakers/foodies have spoken as said Tart. But don't tarts use fruit. Maybe it's some anomaly that just is and can't be shoved into a designated category.

| Is it a cake, or is it a pie. An interesting philosophical proposition. I'm afraid the answer is the one we could least expect, however.
The cheesecake... IS A FLAN.
Please do clean up your minds, as they've been surely BLOWN.

Hm, maybe the recipe has changed over time, but the name didn't? Like, the design for it and stuff has changed since it was first made, I dunno.
And you are evil, Nemui! D: I love cheesecake, it's so easy to make, and there's no baking, so technically that doesn't count. xD
And if that's the case then yay! I've had tarts before! |
aha yes i know i am evil,,
and well either way i will not make him a cheesecake. and
actually i think i do have a recipe that involves baking a cheese cake.
unless i was looking at a different cake.

| Mmmm, I'd consider it a pie. I learned how to make cheesecake when I worked as a cook at a church camp, and we would get a big pan, lay down the crust, then mix the cheesecake mix and pour it into the crust. No bake, no fuss, just the cheesecake filling and crust.

| It seems more like a cake to me than a pie. But cakes and pies are often so similar anyways, it doesn't matter all that much. XD
