Character's name:
Runin Kos

Sex:
Male

Age:
17

Mutation(s):
Major Mutations:
None

Minor mutations:
- Slightly enhanced physical capabilities, allowing above average endurance, strength and speed.
- Slightly enhanced mental capabilities, allowing above average reaction time, intellectual aptitude, and logical processes.
- Limited control over a Familiar, exhibiting some connection with his animal companion, though to a lesser extent than most others. Has currently established an empathic link with a small scorpion.
- Limited regenerative healing capabilities, as well as resilience, allowing recovery of most wounds as long as sufficient time and focus is exerted.

Description:
Runin Kos is, for all intents and purposes, one of the more normal "exports" from the army research facility. Often garbed in little more than a dark blue T-shirt and pitch black track pants, the teenager shows little indulgence in aesthetic appeal, or indeed, any other social aspects. Calm, quiet, and independent, Runin often never makes first contact with anyone.

Of course, that isn't to say he's anti-social, either. Raised in an environment where communication was both critical to the project and key to survival, the teenager has developed enough capabilities to hold perfectly normal conversations. He simply chooses not to.

His short black hair, as dark as his eyes, is barely visible, often obscured by a black toque, devoid of any markings. With his average build and height, as well as unimposing posture, the teenager often blends with the background, and is easily confused for a "normal" human.

Biography:
Developed as one of the many independent projects within the army facility, Runin was exposed to the mutation at an early age. Unlike many applicants, though, Runin was not an orphan, having been "donated" to the facility by parents who were apathetic to his existence. The facility was more than happy to take the child off of their hands, and the parents were compensated with a tidy sum.

Due to his early inception into the program, the project goals were drastically different to what it is today. While it still retained the goal of establishing a method in advancing the natural capabilities of humanity, as well as creating new ways to reach what was once considered fantasy, the focus was to specifically attain a method to improve the existing generations, whose age and cell structure are no longer quite as adaptable as that of children. Thus, "Project Augment" was born.

Runin was but one of many candidates for the project, and his tutelage, while similar to his peers, was drastically different the orphans from other projects. The children were taught at an early age, ideally at 5 or 6 years, the intricacies of combat. While not trained to be a child soldier, Runin was exposed to many if the ideals behind fighting. As with everyone else in the project, the teenager had learned the foundations of loyalty and discipline when he first reached 6 years of age, when his physical training first started.

Each child was also assigned a mentor, some member of the army who felt the need to watch over these students and teach them important lessons of life. Most of them were perfectly decent people, as improper mental development was hazardous to the program. Runin's mentor was no exception, and was one of the many people who drilled the concept of solidarity and loyalty into his mind. His mentor wasn't a warmonger, though, and the lighter values of life were not lost on the child.

Every so often, between the month long training sessions, the children would be exposed to a mild mutagen, slightly enhancing their physical capabilities, as the scientists took the test data from the military sessions and slowly refined their concoction. When students reached the appropriate age, they were also educated in the same school systems as other children, developing their minds alongside their bodies, in preparation for their reintroduction back into society. It was a tidy system, and one that was unmarred by corruption.

Whatever aspirations and goals they had hoped to achieve, though, were soon cast aside, as the slow progression of the project, however steady, was its downfall, as the rest of the research institution began to favor the rapid results of other projects. Scrapping Project Augment, the children were let go from the facility, as their exposure to the light mutagens rendered them unfit for any other sort of project.

At the age of 17, it was time for Runin to leave. Released from the facility, Runin was given some reprise, as he was instructed to make his way to Saint-Bridgit School for Mutants.

-----

Freedom? Is that what I have? When he left the facility, Runin Kos was exposed for the first time to the children outside his group of friends. Kids, teenagers, and even the odd adult showed their envy at his departure, describing it as freedom from their miserable lives.

The teenager was still lost, despite his knowledge. While trained physically and academically, the program had intended for him to live with his mentor after completion, to learn the finer points in life. Instead, he was to be carted off to this school, to learn life there. Arrangements had been made for Runin to stay at the dormitories at the school, but nothing for his life was planned beyond that. It seemed that they wanted him to make the decision.

The scorpion on his shoulder lightly hissed, threatening to nip at his neck as the young creature snapped Runin out of his thoughts. "You're right... We should probably get going." With that, the scorpion climbed onto the teenager's toque, clinging on the fabric as Runin began walking towards the school.

Other: Runin's classification of "above average" is rated in comparison to military combat personnel, not civilians, due to his training. Likewise, his mental processes are also compared to a non-standard test group.

Lei looked at the doctor, not sure if she should do something or say something. Her sight was a bit blurry from all the light coming suddenly through the door. And apparently, the doctor wasn't sure of what to do either. The woman shook her head and looked at the girl and her little teddy bear. Did I just dream this? she thought, before taking another look at the little girl and the apparently innocent bear hanging between her arms.

"So, Lei, the experiment is over for today. I'll see you tomorrow at the same hour, ok?" the doctor said with her calmer voice, before she entered the room and got her paper tablet from the floor. "But, uh, doc, what happened? I woke up in that chair and I don't remember anything..." Lei said, her voice still a bit shaking from nervosity. "I'll tell you that tomorrow, if you don't mind. I have something urgent to do." The doctor quickly exited the room, pushing Lei outside at the same time. She closed the door and locked it, and then walked quickly down the hall, to wherever she needed to go.

That's all! No explanation, no comment, no nothing! Lei thought, a bit pissed off by the doctor's answer. Doctors were never really clear in their answers, but at least they usually tried to explain her the things they had done. She sighed, frustrated and afraid, not knowing what had happened and therefore unable to predict what could happen... Anyway, she would know tomorrow, right? So she decided not to worry too much about it, pushing her feelings to a far corner of her brain and forgetting about it for now.

She slowly walked down the hallway to the nearest exit, suddenly feeling happy and relieved as she felt the slightly cold and wet wind on her cheeks. She got down the five little steps separating the doorstep from the paved way, looking around to see any students or friends she could talk to or hang with. Seeing no one, she decided to walk to a nearby bench, under a little blooming cherry tree. She sat down and held Illya closely, hugging her as much as she could. I don't like that Illya! I don't like not remembering what I do! I hope everything is ok!

She lifted her head, looking at the clouds and cherry petals coming down the tree in the light wind, trying to forget her feelings and remember what happened, if such a thing was possible.

The teenager resisted the urge to talk back to his arachnid friend, as he could hear the young scorpion taunting him. Unlike other people who had links with animals, Runin held only an empathic link to his companion, not a telepathic link. As such, he would have to verbally speak the scorpion whenever he wanted to chide him, portraying an image of insanity, much to the scorpion's delight.

Still, the urge was too great, the the teenager softly muttered "Of course I have no idea where it is...", a look of slight annoyance on his face. As he felt the young scorpion mentally snicker, Runin absently wondered what a smiling insect of any sort would look like.

He soon shook his mind clear, as he saw a young girl dully sitting on a bench, teddy bear in hand. Perhaps she could answer his questions, as his conference with his familiar yielded no tangible results. Slowly making his way to the girl, his messenger bag slung across his back, Runin Kos spoke out.

"Excuse me..."

Lei was lost in her thoughts and startled as she heard someone talking to her. A guy she didn't know was standing in front of her, looking like a normal being, but apparently wanting to ask her something.

"Uh, yes?" was the only answer she found.

Anne watched as the others left, watched as they ran. A slow sigh escaped from her. Why do I even try to associate myself with others? They're always in such a rush...If not rushing to avoid the crack pots they call scientists then rushing to go play and have fun. Nyx, do I ever act like that? The cat seemed befuddled by the girl's suddenly adult, even old, way of thinking. ~Sometimes. Whenever you get an idea or there's a new sale at your favorite store.~ The girl smiled a bit, taking the feline from her shoulder to her arm, stroking her all the while. Nyx purred loudly, eyes closed contently.

Anne began to walk down the corridor again, in the same direction as the other kids had run. Just as she was about to exit the building, a heavy hand landed on her shoulder. "Come with me, Wilder." Anne scoffed, shrugging the hand off. "Shove off, Jones." She turned to meet the man's eyes, though she had to look up to do so. He was a full head taller that she, and had way more muscle mass, but he was human through and through. He didn't scare nor intimidate Anne in the least, though he tried often enough. Jones frowned. "While you're here, you must come for an evaluation twice a month."

Jones stalked off down the hall, Anne following without missing a beat. Evaluation...Check up....Test...It was all getting so old. Nyx's tail frizzed out slightly, not nearly so nonchalant about this whole situation. Anne was scheduled for two evaluations a month, one check up every other month unless an "emergency" occurred, and a test every week. The schedule was old, the uniformness of the staff was old, the building was old...Dammit, she needed some change! Her brow furrowed a bit when Jones passed right on by the usual room for her evaluations. What's he up to? ~Nothing good, that's for sure.~ Anne followed him a little longer before stopping.

"Where are we going? We've already passed the evaluation room." Jones paused. "I'm taking you to the largest of the evaluation rooms." He then continued to walk. Anne didn't start walking again though. Combat training!? They haven't tried that with me since I was ten... Nyx's fur was bristled out along her spine and her tail was fully fluffed out. ~How do you think I feel? You're not the one who gets knocked out...~ True, but you don't get beat up, or yelled at when you wreck the machinery. The cat simply growled a little in response. Jones stopped again, turning to face Anne. "Get a move on, Wilder."

Anne whipped around and darted back down the hallway. Her feline familiar was dropped, preferring to not be held like a barrel, to run beside her. ~ANNE! What the hell are you DOING!?~ No way in hell I'm gonna let them knock you out or be put in that room. The cat was silent after that, keeping up perfectly with Anne's full speed. Jones yelled, running after them. But he was in no way able to keep up. That was like pitting a bull against a cheetah. Nyx, loan me your eyes and ears, please. The feline didn't respond verbally, but Anne knew she had done it when her eyes became sharper and her ears much more keen. The only way one could tell that they were sharing their senses was by Anne's pupils, which were like slits now instead of being round.

~So, what's the plan?~ To get outside. The pair was almost to the door, when two scientists popped out to block her path. Anne didn't slow, whipping her arms out. Her cryogenic attack hit the lab coat clad adults full on, freezing them but not killing them. The teen blew past them, Nyx falling in stride behind her. "Bye, losers!" Anne ran right into the wooded area, jumping over a stump and dodging trees. A slight grin played on her lips. As soon as the opportunity came, she lept up, clinging to a branch. As she swung her legs up onto the branch, Nyx scrabbled up beside her. Upon looking around, Anne noticed that she wasn't too far away from the other people she'd seen in the hall...

(I hope I'm allowed to do that, the thing with the scientist named Jones. ^^")

((Yeah, since I've been lazy creating scientists, you are allowed to make your own, as long as you don't go overboard with it (no killing and such). I'll try to add the scientific team profiles by the end of the week, then you'll just have to pick the one you want to examine you... but for now, you can create your own.))

"I apologize for interrupting, but do you happen to know where the dormitories are?" Runin's mind almost subconsciously wandered, before he mentally stopped himself. The school environment was a new setting for him, and the teenager found it hard not to let his eyes wander. However, He knew better than to deviate in the middle of the conversation, and while this mental indecision was occurring, he showed no physical indication.

Instead, he kept a respectable distance away from the young girl, patiently waiting for her response.

Lynx's ears flicked at the commotion outside her room, but went back to dozing. About 2 hours later, she was awakened by footsteps and a scientist came into the room and opened the cage. She slunk out slowly, her ears flat as she glared at him, but surprisingly, he didn't force her to go for a "checkup" like he normally would. Instead, he just ushered her out the door and back to the student wards.

Lynx watched the man leave and turned to look down the student wards. It seemed like a prison to her...rooms on both sides of the corridor, with a large "living room" area at the very end of the hall. The living area was usually very popular, since it had games and televisions and couches and such to lay on, but today it was empty. Feeling content with being alone at the moment, Lynx slunk towards the empty couch and hopped over the back, landing softly. Rolling onto her back, she stared at the ceiling, deep in thought. Why had they just let her go?

((That's fine...is each student pretty much assigned some doctors or would they share doctors?))

((Ok fine... two characters. I shuffled 6 pretty well one time lol. It was hard and it took a really long time to post, but it still worked. I'll be good and stick with my two though.))
Koma was alone in the quiet glass room. As soon as he was able to move his appendages again, he moved around to find himself in a room he thought was a pyramid shaped out of glass. It was still way too dark for him to see, even after his eyes dilated as wide as they would go.
Soon, a familiar voice echoed in his head.
We're ready to begin our test, sleepy-head. Are you ready?
"What have you done with Instinct?" Koma called out into the black.
I've told you, we had to remove your friend for this test. The voice responded flatly. Rest assured he should come back within a few days. Koma had been there long enough to know that that meant that Instinct wasn't coming back. He felt so alone, having shared his psyche with someone else for as long as he could remember. He shivered in the quiet blackness.
Koma heard a humming coming from all around. It sounded like bees, moving on all sides on the outside of the glass pyramid. Immediately, Koma was flooded by pale white light from all around. His blood began to rush in his veins, and his head started to spin.
He knew the feeling. It was moonlight.

Thurm sat in the examination room, satisfied in the fact that he had sent 3 doctors, count them, 3, packing in frustration. If they wanted to screw with him until his brain rotted, then he'd fight them every step of the way in the way that didn't get him flashed. He shuddered at the thought.
Suddenly, all the lights dimmed and a light humming was heard.
This is different... Thurm's Instinct was lighter and more piercing than Komas, able to pick up on more and process more quickly. It helped with witty responses and comebacks. A nagging pain started to pick up in the back of his head.
Hunwut((Bear))... Hunwut's in trouble... go get him...
The pain got worse, steadily becoming a nagging headache.
Thurm had heard of Hunwut before. Instinct told him that he was his brother. Thurm knew he was an only child though, so he wasn't quite sure what that meant.
Thurm hopped off of the papered bed, eager to do something. Especially if it cured the headache and Instinct's nagging.
After hopping out of bed, Thurm skidded out the door, gliding on his long legs at a quick pace. His eyes, told to be 60/20 (can see clearly at 60 feet what normal people have to be 20 feet away to see), had heightened acuity and could pick up on door labels as he ran past. Finding the exit without much difficulty, Thurm was covering ground fast. He raced across the campus, weaving through columns and zipping past people heading to their dorms for the evening.
Go left here. Through that crowd. Turn right after this fountain...
Instinct was giving him directions, to where he didn't know. He'd never really had an opportunity to explore the campus, but apparently Instinct knew where they were going, so he followed without question until he became a little disconcerted.
Where are we going? Is there someone you're looking for? Thurm questioned his independent thought process.
We are going to go see the last person who saw Hunwut. She's the best lead we have.
She? Who's this she?
I'm not sure, all I understood from Hunwut was that she's a feline.
A feline? Like a cat? We're looking for a cat?
I'm not so sure, the connection broke when that bird started screeching at him.
Thurm remembered that screeching. It stung his ears just thinking about it. Instinct told him that he and this Hunwut were connected through him, how, he couldn't explain, but that they were connected and shared very strong emotions, especially those that involve phasing.
Thurm skidded to a stop in front of a dark room, a girl watching TV in the dark. She was, Thurm had to agree, feline, to say the least.
"Uh..." Thurm's people skills weren't up to par, living in a labratory and speaking only to doctors. He tried his hardest to be polite.
"I... need... I mean... could you...?"

Though the TV was on, Lynx's eyes were on the ceiling, and the volume was completely turned off. Lynx's ears gave a flick as she heard someone coming. She hoped it wasn't a doctor, but she didn't move. Her pointed ears twitched at the almost-silent sound and she frowned. It wasn't a scientist. They always made noise.

The footsteps stopped and she waited. Would they move on or were they staying? They were staying...and speaking to her. She slowly pushed herself to a sitting position, looking to the student across the common area. Her ears flicked at his voice and she studied him, sniffing the air. Something was different about him. Animal, somewhat like her, but different as well. Her long tail gave a flick.

"Could I what?" She finally responded, her voice sharp and untrusting.

Calm down. Take it slow.
"I... Do... do you know Hunwut?"
That's a stupid question. I told you she does.
"I... I mean... we... I've been looking for him... and... you were last to see him..."
Thurm was really struggling to have a normal conversation.
He only spoke to make smart-ass remarks at scientists and laugh, so he never really had any conversational skills.
This was most certainly not funny, however.

"Hun-who? I don't know anyone by that name," she replied, looking puzzled. She knew Koma by Su'Ish and didn't know any other names he might go by. Her tail flicked at this odd boy before and she sniffed again. "What...what are you?" She asked, her eyes narrowing in suspicion. "You smell..." she sniffed the air again, her ears laying back a little "....different. Not human. Not me, but not human."

Lynx watched the strange boy, remembering what her doctors said. If she began smelling strange things again, they would have to increase her medicine intake. But no, she was sure that this was real, not an imagined scent.

Thurm thought, I thought you said she knew him...
She does! Maybe Hunwut goes by another name around school or something...
What about her other question?
To be honest, Thurm didn't know what he was. He never got a formal education, only the basics and some basing combat training and pushunax'i ((Means rainbow, and don't even try pronouncing it, it's so rediculous)), special pressure-point training.
"I... don't know... what I am..." Thurm tried to think of the word they used to describe him...
"Monster?" He thought that was it.
"I'm looking for... Bear." Thurm had to think of the word they described Hunwut with. It was so hard making conversation like this...

"Monster. Yes, monster. Yes! Just like me. Monster. Crazy." She shook her head, a wild look in her eyes, but seemed to calm down. "A bear...a bear...oh where oh where is that bear? Yes, Su'Ish, he's...he's gone. Ran back to school, back to school is where he went."

She leaned in closer to him, her red-gold eyes wide. "You are a monster like Lynx. Lynx is a monster, and a crazy one too! Why do you seek the bear? I wanted to help the bear, but the doctor's got him. Got me too." Lynx groaned, shaking her head a bit. "No, no, Lynx, shut up, shut up!! Talk too much, will get more pills. More and more and more..."

((Fine, I only put a rule about how many characters we can have so it doesn't get mess up with unused ones, 'cause I know some people just make characters for a special scene and then forget about them, and it ends up being a real mess to follow...

I was thinking about somewhat sharing doctors, but having like small teams who specialize on some mutations. For example, the docs studying Koma would be the same studying Thrum, 'cause they are somewhat similar mutants. And maybe having one or two general doctors, who are only there to pass more general exam...))

"Oh, yeah, the dorms..." Lei said, serious, pausing at the end. It was getting dark outside, as the day had passed during her exam and reflection period ((about five o'clock, the sun is hiding behind the buildings of the school, so the yard gets darker)). "Yeah, I guess we should go back there now..." Her stomach let go a roar, which seemed to completely pulled her out of her daydreaming. She looked at the guy, trying to remember what they were talking about.

Lei jumped on her feet, an happy smile on her face. "Come with me! I'll show you the living area, and where the dorms are!" She suddenly felt much more happy and relax, having someone with her, even if she didn't know him. She just didn't like being alone, because then her bad thoughts and fears came back to her mind and that was painful. She looked at the guy, waiting for an answer. She didn't go closer to him though, still knowing that it wouldn't be polite.
