The jungle was far from quiet during the evening hours. This particular jungle was a strange one, with trees larger than redwoods and ferns that grew along the forest floor, as big as trees themselves. It was a prehisoric jungle in a land far from what was considered the norm. Large thick vines grew up and around giant trunks, some containing thick and deadly thorns. Flowering plants had yet to appear in this forest, but it was green and beautiful even without them.

The air was hot and dry, though after the rainy season the humidity would rise a little. The trees above blocked out much of the sunlight, so even during the day the jungle was shrouded in darkness. It was a strange and deadly place, or it would have been for someone not native to this land.

A strange creature was hunting on this particular evening. It stood around 5 feet and 11 inches tall, not quite reaching 6 feet, and appeared human at first glance. But something was odd about this creature.

It was a male and he, at first, appeared to have a blueish tint to his skin. At a closer look, it became obvious that his skin was actually sets of tiny scales layered on top of each other, much like a snake, and the scales were smooth. He was colored a grey-blue color, similiar to smoke, and he had stripes all along his body the color of an off-white cream. His scales were lighter along his underside and much darker along his back. His hair was long and pulled back into a thick braid, with bangs that covered his face messily, and his hair was a creamy color as well, matching his stripes.

His ears were very long and pointed, like an elf's, but sort of ended flatly and at the tip of these odd ears were cream colored feathers, looking similiar to bobcat tuffs, but only with feathers. An extension of his spine revealed that he had a long, thick powerful tail, that was prehensile and very useful to him. He had five fingers that had dangerous claws at the ends, but appeared mostly human. He also had cream-colored feathers along the base of his tail, the tip of his tail, his elbows, and the back of his ankles.

But perhaps the most interesting asset the creature had to offer was his feet. He had 4 claws on each foot. The first claw on the inside of each foot was small and appeared to have little use. But the second claw was the most deadly. It was curved wickedly and very large, a sickle-claw of a raptor. It never touched the ground, but could be used as a deadly weapon. The other two toes each touched the ground and had sharp claws, but were rarely used as weapons. He had digitigrade legs, meaning he walked on his toes, and this allowed him to make his way through the jungle in utter silence.

Ducking under a large leafed plant, the creature paused beside a well-known watering hole. His face was humanoid and flat and his eyes were an attractive sea-green color in shade. The clothes he wore were natural, made of the skins of creatures he had hunted, and he wore very little. In the heat of the jungle, not a lot of clothing was needed. He was well built, with well developed muscles, but he was a hunter and a warrior and he needed to be in shape.

His slitted pupils focused on the watering hole. Here, many strange creatures native to this land came to drink. The watering hole was small, not large enough to hold the ancient and giant crocodiles, so it was a relatively safe place to rest and drink. The strange creature remained in his silent, motionless crouch as he waited for his next meal to approach.

Lola walked through this strange forest in utter silence, afraid of waking any deadly beasts. She held her side protectively for the large wound she had gotten from her fight moments ago was bleeding everywhere. She had run into the forest to escape the last of the group of bandits and they all stopped chasing her far before she reached the forests edge.

Lola finally came upon a watering hole and she stopped to rest and check herself for other wounds. She lit a lantern she had and started to examine her 4 '3" figure. Her small white dress that went to her knees was covered in blood, her own and some bandits. Her black stockings were torn and she now only had one shoe. She undid her hair which was in a pony tail and let it fall around her face, covering her coal colored eyes with bright yellow strands of hair, also cover in dried blood.

She pulled out a golden chain with a large blue gem on it and started to murmur in a strange language harsh and low.

Scythe smelled the blood long before the woman came into view. He frowned lightly as he saw the injured girl approach the watering hole and stop at the edge to light a latern. His long tail gave a few flicks as he sighed, blowing his bangs from his face. So much for hunting tonight.

Standing, he brushed himself off and moved towards the woman, carefully stepping out of the jungle and into the light. He knew he could be a frightening creature to someone who had never seen his kind before, so he held up his clawed hands in a non-threatening manner.

"Well, hello there!" He spoke in a cheerful voice, his feather-tipped ears giving a flick. "Are you lost, Miss?" He grinned a little to reveal sharp fangs, but his eyes were friendly and intelligent.

Lola jumped at the sound of a voice and quickly pulled out a large knife. Her eyes grew wide as she stared at the creature before her and the knife went limp in her hand.

"Um...I am...fine..."

Lola took a step back and slipped on a wet stone.

"Oh...hey, now, I won't hurt you. I don't eat other humanoids. They are usually too stringy for me." The creatured grinned widely at his joke and kept his hands up. He didn't move from his spot, not wanting to startle her even more. "The name's Scythe...and I can't help but notice that you seem to be rather lost. And injured. I can help, actually...see that leaf behind you, the large one with yellow dots? If you press that on your wound, it'll make the blood clot and stop the bleeding..."

Scythe studied the woman before him carefully. He had seen her kind before, but not around here. And how had she been injured? What was she doing here? Only his kind and others similar to her lived in this part of the world...she must be seriously lost.

Lola looked back and forth between the creature that had just spoken to her and the leaf that it had just mentioned. She wearily picked the leaf and placed it on the large gash on her side. As soon as she did the leaf took effect and the blood started to clot. She turned back to the creature, uncertain what to say to it she put her knife back away into it's case and turned back to the water.

"Thank you, but I am not lost...Just taking the scenic route."

Lola grabbed hold of her large gem again and started up her strange chanting once more. The gem glowed a bright blue and the water in the pond started to dance upward into the air, like a snake being charmed out of a basket.

Scythe watched her with a playful smile on his lips. "Oh, I see...well then, how did you manage to get injured, Miss? There are other creatures besides myself out here that can smell that blood...you are likely to attract some unwanted attention if you are not...careful..." He trailed off, his eyes flicking towards the water to watch what she was doing. What was she doing anyways?

His long tail gave a flick. He should be getting back to his hunting. He wasn't sure if this woman wanted his help. She seemed more put-off by his appearance than anything else. Scythe knew that his kind often seemed strange and wild to others...and it was true that most of his people wouldn't have lifted a sickle claw to help a stranger in need. He, luckily, wasn't like most of his people.

Lola finished her chanting and the water the floated into the air turned into a blue pixie. The small creature floated in front of her for a moment before flying to the top of her head and tugging at her hair, washing the blood out of it as it pulled. Lola then removed her only shoe and tossed it over her shoulder.

"I was in the wrong place at the wrong time."

Lola then pulled a brown bag from nowhere and pulled out a large piece of beef jerky. She pulled a piece from it and popped it into her mouth. After putting the piece of jerky back into the bag she started to pull of her clothing, not caring that the creature was still there watching.

Scythe only frowned gently, his long pointed ears flicking. Well, perhaps she could manage...he turned, about to head out and return to his business, but something made him pause. His eyes shifted towards the water and grew wide. "Miss, ah, you may want to mo---" But his warning had come a little too late. He had misjudged the water's depth, and from deep within the pool, a huge, 20 foot long crocodile-like creature propelled itself with incredible speed and agility out of the water and towards the woman.

Scythe cursed at the speed of the monster and took action. With surprising speed, he leapt towards the monster. His sharp, sickle claws on his feet were pulled back as he landed on the crocodile's back. The claws shot downwards, like a spring, and dug into the reptile's back. He growled and slashed with his hind feet, distracting the beast away from the woman. The crocodile turned its focus on the creature on his back, and lashed about, snapping its great jaws. Finally, it decided to do what it did best, and moved to go into a death roll.

Lola jumped from her spot, now lacking her dress, and grabbed her gem. She chanted loudly and the gem glowed a dark blue before a giant hand emerged from the gem and grabbed the beast from the water. The hand lifted it into the air and with great force crushed it, breaking it's spine in half. The hand tossed the limp body aside and the went over to the creature that had made an attempt to save her. It gently lifted it out of the water and set it on shore next to Lola.

She turned to the creature and raised and I brow.

"Do you have a thing for getting into other peoples business, or do you enjoy nearly getting killed my giant beasts?"

((Whoa! A little god-moding there, no offense. I'll roll with it this time, but even if it was a minor character, the croc was mine and you just assumed a lot right there about whether or not the creature was killed. It would have been similar to me saying the croc grabbed Lola and dragged her into the water. Its no problem this time, but try not to do it again. Scythe and any Cs I create are mine alone to control. You can attempt to do things to them, but you can't assume any attacks hit.))

Yikes! Scythe almost went for that ride as the girl lifted the crocodile into the air. Luckily, he released his grip on the beast before the hand grabbed it, moving backwards gracefully before it hit the ground limply, so there was no need for her the hand to lift him anywhere. In fact, he darted away from the hand, quirking an eyebrow at it.

He smirked a bit as he wiped off his sickle clawed feet. She had been lucky she had been sitting a bit away from the water. Crocodiles were known for their swiftness in the water, not on land, and he had seen people get grabbed and taken into the water before anyone could even cry out.

He looked to the girl and raised both eyebows. "Beg pardon, miss, I was just trying to help. If you had such a powerful ability, why didn't you use it on whatever injured you anyways?" He huffed a bit, insulted. "This is my home, miss. I can take care of myself. I was just trying to be nice to a stranger to these lands is all." Scythe looked to the girl and shook his head a bit. Maybe this was why his people stayed away from strangers.

Lola looked the creature over and scoffed.

"I can't simply call upon him willy nilly, foolish creature. He is rather picky about his fighting situations. And I am sorry his horrid judgment made you feel insulted in your own home I am grateful for your help."

Lola lifted the gem close to her mouth.

"AT LEAST SOMEONE CARES FOR MY WELL BEING IN THIS GOOD-FORSAKEN PLACE!"

The gem started to glow blue and out of nowhere a voice spoke

"You ungrateful wench! I have been watching over you for years and you speak such fowl words against me! I have never been more insulted in my-hey is that meat?"

The gem floated out of Lola's hand and over to the dead animal, The gem glowed a dark blue and slowly started to dissolve the unmoving creature.

Scythe took the apology happily, though to be called a "foolish creature" was certainly odd. He shrugged it off, deciding it was better to let it go. He watched her yell at the gem, and surprisingly, the gem yelled back. Blinking a bit, he raised an eyebrow, watching the gem absorb the dead crocodile. Well, this was getting stranger and stranger by the second.

His feathered tail flicked and he sighed lightly. He couldn't decide whether this woman needed help or would prefer to be left alone. But he did suddenly realize that the woman was lacking her dress. Looking startled, he quickly turned his back on her like any good gentleman would do, swallowing nervously. She might not be of his race, but she was female nontheless and not too different from himself. "Err...ah...well, eh, Miss...maybe I should be going now..."

"Is something wrong?" Lola asked, worry obvious in her voice. "Please stay, I haven't talked with anyone decent for a while..."

"I heard that!"

Lola glared at the gem before gently grabbing the creatures arm.

"I know I was harsh earlier but I'm certain you would be the same if you were approached by something that you were unfamiliar with."

Scythe looked to the girl sheepishly, trying not to look anywhere beyond her face. He smiled and rubbed the back of his head uncertainly. His scales were smooth and cool to the touch. "Alright, miss, I won't leave...but only on two conditions."

"One...well, eh, its mighty uncomfortable for me to be around you while you are so...well...where's your dress? You might want to put that on. Eh heh...and, uh, the other condition...please tell me your name, so I don't have to keep calling you Miss."
