More than just an ordinary forest... Juniper Forest plays as the double-edged sword. During the day you will find the forest to be a beautiful and peaceful place, filled with the extraordinary. Mythical beasts roam freely, every creature great and small, from the purest unicorn to the darkest demon. The forest itself is quite large, stretching on for miles and miles, thick with over towering trees that only allows the faintest of sunlight through. Clearings dot the woods here and there, creating large stretching meadows where you might spot a winged horse grazing peacefully. Magic is abundant, found in the most unlikely places and people. A large lake creates a break in the forest, sparkling blue and hiding many wonders. In the very center of this grand lake lies a mysterious island, hiding many secrets of its own.

Yes, the forest is a beautiful place...until night falls. With the shadows comes the darkest creatures slithering from their caverns, ready to spring upon the unlucky night travelers. Thankfully, along a well-used dirt road sits a tavern, its windows always lit, offering a warm fire and a cozy bed to wait out the night.

As darkness falls on Juniper Forest, there is one source of refuge: a little place called Black Cherry Tavern. It is a simple building, consisting of three floors. On the bottom floor lies the bar, kitchen, and dining area. A large stairway leads to the second and third floors, which consist of rooms that one can rent out. From behind the bar sits a young woman called Red, who is always ready to serve fresh drinks and listen to the recent tales of those traveling along the dusty roads.

Escape the darkness and join us! Please visit http://www.freewebs.com/juniperforest/ for more information.

This RP is open-ended. No strict plots to follow; you make your own adventures. It is medieval-based, so no futuristic things allowed. Just join us in the tavern, or head out to the lake. Battle a dragon or a demon, or just come and have a few drinks. Socialize, make friends, perhaps find that one true love. Get into fights or just party. If I get enough interest in this place, I may create planned plots, but I personally enjoy open storylines, not strict ones. More room for creativeness! So just have fun!

Username: SasorizaKitty
Character Name: Frey Malik
Race: She was born to the Tribe of B'asat Iqui, though she is no longer seen among them.
Age: 26 years
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6
Appearance: From the darkened shadows of the surrounding forest, a woman appears, slipping in silence into the moonlight. Her ruby orbs reflect in the light of the full moon as she walks towards you, much like how a cat's eyes look when in direct light. The glowing affect fades as she grows closer, her body swaying gently, a long, cat-like tail swaying as well with the movements of her hips, her other features becoming quite obvious. The woman's hair is almost pure white, and cut boyishly short around her face, with a long ponytail in the back. A pair of cat ears flick as well, listening to all the sounds around her with the care of a skilled huntress. The locks, you notice, strike out greatly against her skin color, which is a rich dark tan. Her fur color, however, matches quite well, being a dark ebony brown.
Personality: Say "hello" and find out.
Abilities: Shadow Jumping: She can basically fade into the shadows, hide fully in them, control them, and use them to jump from place to place. Shapeshifting: She can change into a very large black leopard and sometimes she will take a were-leopard form.
Weapons: Though skilled at a distance with a bow, Frey will not hesitate to use her own claws and fangs when up close. She carries a dangerous looking spear with her where ever she goes.
Familiar/Pet/Summon Creatures: Maverick, the cave lion, acts as her companion and her mount.
Text Color: Black

Username: SasorizaKitty
Character Name: Red
Race: Were FeliLupidae (were-wolf/feline)
Age: 24 years old
Gender: Female
Height: 5'0"
Appearance: Red is petite, almost frail looking. She has long, very shaggy hair that reaches her thighs which is a brilliant ginger-red in color. It always hangs loose on her back. Her eyes are a metallic gold shade which reflect in direct light, much like a wolf's would. In were-form, she appears to be a very large muscular wolf-like creature. She stands at 5 feet at the shoulder while on all fours. Her body, however, is more cat-like, being longer with shorter, stronger legs. Her claws are retractable, and her paws large and dangerous. Her tail is thick and bushy like a wolf's, but long like a cat's. Her muzzle, however, is wolf-like and long, with long deadly fangs. While in were-form, her fur is a golden-red ginger color and thick.
Personality: Friendly and warm, usually very cheerful and welcoming.
Abilities: Shape-shifting into her were form.
Weapons: She prefers not to fight, but if she must, she chooses to battle with her own fangs and claws. She also has some minor control over normal wolves.
Familiar/Pet/Summon Creatures: None
Text Color: Dark red

The sun was setting, the rays of its last light streaming through the thick canopy of the forest. Flickering onto the ground, it gave the appearance of coals among the fallen leaves and debris. The summer air tasted stale, for there had been no rainfall for quite sometime. The hardy trees of Juniper Forest were suffering, though they had not quite reached their limits. Though their leaves were turning brown around the edges, they were strong and old trees and difficult to defeat. It would be awhile yet before the trees met their end. Hopefully water would fall before that time approached.

The path was dusty and as the traveller moved along, she could feel it sticking to every inch of her. A lithe creature walked beside her, standing nearly as tall as she, about 5 feet at the shoulder. It appeared to be a big cat of some sort, with large paws that hid deadly claws, currently sheathed so not to become dulled. Despite its great size, the feline made no sound as it padded alongside the woman. Its fur was a silvery-grey shade and it had thick fur and a long, plumed tail. It lacked all markings and was simply a solid grey. Huge, saber-like fangs protruded from its mouth, though not quite as large as a saber-tooth cat's. Muscles rippled beneath its fur and the large feline's eyes were ruby red.

The ruby orbs of the large cat matched that of the woman's. She herself was lithe and muscular, with well-developed abs. However, she was a very curvy woman, with well-defined hips and strong legs, not exactly skinny. She wore no shoes and the bottoms of her feet were hard from traveling. She, like her companion, made no sound as she walked, and her movements held an odd, unhuman gracefulness. Her skin was a dark, rusty brown color and her hair made her stand out. It was cut boyishly short, with a long pony-tail in the back, and it always seemed out of place. Her hair color was a silvery-grey, almost white, and it stuck out like a sore thumb. Among her mess of white hair lay a pair of large cat ears, the color of her skin tone. Her features became even stranger as a long, cat-like tail was revealed behind her, motionless at the moment. She wore a traveling cloak, which disguised whatever else she might be wearing.

The woman paused in her steps, her long cat ears giving a flick. She frowned to herself, her expression hardening. Night was falling and usually the night was her companion and her guide. But something didn't feel quite right. The large cave lion beside her shifted as well, displaying its own agitation, and the woman continued onwards. She approached a well-lit tavern, the sign outside announcing that this was Black Cherry Tavern. Other travelers were already seeking refuge from the night, hurrying inside, and the woman slowly joined them. Perhaps a rest was indeed needed, at least until the sun rose once more.

Black Cherry Tavern appeared, at first glance, to be an ordinary tavern. It had a high ceiling, with rafters, and a fireplace on one side, with plenty of booths and tables. A bar was on the opposite side of the fireplace, where a short woman with fiery red hair sat, serving drinks to the regulars. A large staircase was beside the bar, leading upstairs to the second and third stories, where the rooms to rent were located. The woman who just walked in, her large feline moving in behind her, took this all in with a single glance. She made her way to the bar and took a seat at the end, away from the others, the cave lion sitting back on its haunches beside her.

The innkeep, the fiery red-haired woman, moved to take the woman's order and once the order was delivered, moved back to serve the others.

Leaning back in her seat a little as she took a long drink, Frey Malik observed those around her.

A boy in a blue and white Kish ((long multi-purpose overcoat jacket)) wandered through the door into the first floor. His mahogany brown eyes were wide in wonder and astonishment at the place that he had found. It took him a second to register that there were people in the room before him.
"Miyaxwe," (("Hello")) he said very quietly, "I... I need a place to stay."

The woman behind the bar counter smiled brightly at him. "Hello!" She greeted in a friendly manner. "You can call me Red. I can offer you a place to stay. We have lots of rooms for rent." The woman waved the lad to come forward. Red was a petite young bartender, standing at 5 feet even, with long, thick, bushy fiery red hair...hence the nickname. Her eyes sparkled metallic gold and she appeared friendly.

Frey Malik cast her ruby orbs towards the new arrival as she took another drink. She studied the boy a moment, the giant cave lion beside her doing the same thing. Their eyes were almost identical and it was rather strange to behold. The cave lion gave a grunting noise and Frey nodded, turning back around. Though it was not obvious, she was keeping an eye on the boy...and all the other occupants of the tavern.

Koma tried to avert his gaze from the lion's and the woman's. He could tell by the look in her eyes that she meant no hostility, but he couldn't help but notice the twinge of the scent of blood hovering around the lion...
"Um..." Koma spoke quickly but softly, trying not to disturb anyone, "Could you make sure there are no..." He felt uneasy for asking favors in a place he'd been in for only a few minutes "...no mirrors in my room?"
He tried to make it look like he didn't want to further the subject, but by the searching gazes of the others in the room he felt he might have to.

"Oh...ah...mirrors?" Red replied as she dug around for a key behind the counter. "Well...all the rooms have mirrors, young lad, but I can take them down for you if you'd like..." The bartender offered with a smile as she held out a key. "The room's on the second floor, room number 4. Want a drink, lad, before you head to bed? Or some food?"

Frey quirked a thin eyebrow at the odd request, and she couldn't help her curious nature. Perhaps it was the feline in her. Her long cat-like ears gave a twitch. "No mirrors? Why no mirrors?" She prompted, her thick feline tail switching back and forth as she turned towards the young man. Her ruby eyes sparkled with interest and this was rare: Frey hardly ever showed an interest in others. The cave lion beside her turned its steady gaze on Koma as well, its tail switching in time with Frey's.

Koma's head picked up at that four letter f-word he loved so dearly.
"Ah... you wouldn't happen to have any fish, would you?"
On the exterior, Koma tried desperately to be polite, but internally he panicked. If he explained himself... surely he would be thrown out. Tonight was not a good night to be outside.
His gaze fell somewhere off to the left, away from the two of them.
"Hunwut..." ((Bear)) He mumbled under his breath.
Small talk with the woman and her lion means trouble. Instinct flashed through his mind.
He took a seat awkwardly at the opposite side of the room, away from the women.

"Of course, of course," Red responded, and she smiled at the boy. He seemed very strange, but she had seen more oddities in this part of the woods. It seemed to attract the unique ones. The petite woman headed through a door into the kitchen to cook up some fish for the boy.

Frey watched the boy mumble under his breath, turn away, then take a seat far away from them. She quirked an eyebrow, exchanging a look with the cave lioness beside her. His odd behavior only enhanced her interest. Had he been direct with her and dismissive, she might have let it go. But now...no way! Frey stood and moved with her drink and sat across from the table the boy sat at, grinning a little. Maverick, the cave lion, followed, settling back on her haunches beside the woman. "The name's Frey, lad. This here is Maverick. Tell me son, what are you doing wandering the woods? I hear they can be quite the dangerous place, especially at night." She avoided the subject of mirrors, at least for the time being. She wanted to ease the boy into the conversation first.

((Hope you don't mind me jumping in. Happy ))

Just as it was getting to be dark out, she stumbled upon a nice little tavern. In the middle of no where… Unusual… She pulled the door open and stepped into the opening. The lights stole her eyes for a mere moment and she took everything in; the smells of food, people, felines, and all the regular sounds and visuals of a tavern. Quickly dusting off her cloak and removing it she found a spot at the bar.

Adelynde was dressed in a pale grey gown, it reached the floor except for the front, which spotted about mid shin. She wore leather sandals, which from appearance looked to be very new. More than likely it wouldn’t cause anyone to wonder how she wandered this far and not managed to scuff up the leather. The cloak that she just took off was plain black but on the inside it was a vibrant shade of purple. Though one would only see the inside if she wore it in reverse.

Adelynde got up from her seat, set the cloak down and reached up to the ceiling, she stretched out the bones in her arms and back before yawning. The sleeves of her gown fell past her elbows revealing arms full of interlocking scars. She moved from side to side stretching out her body and finally sat back down. Reaching inside of her cloak she pulled out a purple ribbon and tied up the wavy black locks of hair.

She wiggled on the stool and looked around the tavern taking in everyone who was in there. There was a lady with a large cat, a boy, and some others but she didn’t find them to interesting. Adelynde shrugged to herself and went back to facing the bar. Hm, now what shall I order? she pondered to her self.

((Of course not! Everyone's welcome and the more the merrier!))

Red's pointed ears gave a little flick as she heard the door opening and she smiled to herself in the kitchen. During the daylight hours, her tavern was a bore. It was almost always empty, for people always found better things to do during the day than sit around and drink or eat. There was the lake to swim in and the island in the middle offered rare and beautiful things, if one knew where to look. And the forest itself was filled with wonder and adventure. Well, that was during the day.

As soon as night fell, like clockwork, the people began to arrive. Some she knew by name, others were new. But it was always the same. By night, Black Cherry Tavern was alive and wonderful. Nevermind that it was the fear of the forest that drove people inside.

Finishing her cooking, Red headed from the kitchen, looking to the newcomer. "Give me just a moment!" She said cheerfully as she moved to set a big plate of fish before Koma. "There you go lad! Hope you like it. Let me know when you are ready to head upstairs and I'll remove those mirrors for you." Red smiled warmly to Koma, glancing to Frey for a moment. "Let me know if you need anything, Miss. I have some nice juicy steaks in the back that you and your lioness might enjoy." Then, with a bright smile, Red returned behind the bar.

Wiping her hands on a cloth, she turned towards the newcomer and grinned a little. "Sorry about that. Now then...welcome to Black Cherry Tavern! You can call me Red. I'm the owner and bartender here. So, what can I get you tonight?"

Frey had noticed the newcomer arrive, but didn't glance away from Koma. When Red arrived, she only nodded briefly in response, awaiting Koma's response.

Adelynde nodded at the lady who told her that it would just bit a little bit longer. She was fine with that, it allowed her more time to decide if she really wanted to eat or if she just wanted to drink. She rolled her head around her shoulders, letting the muscles in her neck stretch out and she reached for the ceiling again. Why am I feeling so tense? she pondered silently to herself.

"Sorry about that. Now then...welcome to Black Cherry Tavern! You can call me Red. I'm the owner and bartender here. So, what can I get you tonight?" Adelynde blinked at Red and smiled warmly.

“Well if you wouldn’t mind making up another batch of the fish I would love that along with potatoes and bread and a glass of milk.” Adelynde smiled again as her stomach rumbled. “I’ll probably order more later but we’ll just have to start with that. Oh and of course I’ll be needing a room for the night. Doesn’t really matter where though.” She looked over at the boy who got the delicious smelling fish a few moments ago and looked at the food more than the boy.

Red grinned widely and nodded. "Coming right up!" She responded in her usual cheerful way as she dug under the counter and pulled up a glass and a cooled pitcher of milk. She poured a glass and handed it to Adelynde. "Food'll be up in a minute. Be right back." And her fiery-ginger hair disappeared behind the door that led to the kitchen once more.

A few minutes later she would return, carrying a large plate of freshly cooked fish, a loaf of steaming bread, and some deliciously spiced potatos. Setting the plate before the young woman, Red grinned widely. The portions here were very generous. "There you are. And I'll set you up with room 2, on the second floor. It should be nice and cozy." Red took her seat behind the counter and wiped her hands on her rag, looking to the woman. "So, what brings you traveling through Juniper Forest so late in the evening, Miss?"

Fish!
Koma fought the urge inside him to destroy the plate. He was starving after loping around in the woods all day. He picked up a fish fillet long as his forearm and bit it in two, the warmth flooding through his system.
"Oh, I wander around a lot," Koma said between mouthfuls. He observed that it was so much easier to talk when he wasn't hiding anything.
"I kind of float from place to place, but I like it here."

"Ah, an adventurer! I approve, boy, I do. And do you have a proper name as well?" She grinned in amusement, settling back against her chair as she watched him. Maverick eyed the giant fish as Koma ate them, her long tail swishing back and forth on the floor. "What sort of things have you come across on your travels? In these woods alone many things are unique. Surely you have seen something of keen interest when you have floated from place to place..."

"The names Koma," he replied, moving his fish as far away from the large cat as he could.
He thought about the second question, realizing that he was more interested in the buck he was chasing for dinner rather than the forest itself. This thought led him to the reason why he was in this Inn in this forest without a buck for dinner in the first place.
That qingwut disappeared, leaving me here in this forest. ((Elk))
"Oh, you know," Koma finished his third fillet and showed no sign of stopping, "Lots of deer. Nothing too impressive yet. Like that cat I've never seen anything like it." He gestured to the lioness eyeing his fish dangerously.
