When Spencer poked his head, he was struck by dark the airport was. He'd never been in a dark airport before. They didn't get dark like this. Suddenly, Spencer was very scared. He couldn't see anything but the tiny area of space that Luce's flashlight was lighting, but he could smell the zombies. The rotting smell was everywhere, and Spencer was almost sick.

"They can't be too far off," Spencer whispered, then remembered how sound carries in the wide hallways. He turned around to his two companions, and tried to explain, in extremely quiet tones, how freaking far sound carries.

"Guys," he said, "Sound carries like you wouldn't believe around here, although that does make it hard to pinpoint. Point is, try not to talk unless you absolutely have to, and also that we'll hear the zombies because they aren't bothering staying silent. The light's useful though, because I'm blind as a bat." Following his own advice, Spencer shut up and started sliding his feet along the tiled floor, making nothing but a slight 'swoosh' sound. Thank goodness he brought his fuzzy socks.

Luce nodded vigirously in agreement with Spencer to show she wasn't speaking and kept her flashlight on. She didn't want to give up her only source of light. She kept a tiny tap tap in pace behind Spencer as her bare feet hit the tile floor.

The smell hit Luce suddenly, almost knocking her off her feet. Oh that's disgusting, she thought. She had to cover her mouth and nose to muffle a "Yuuggh" of displeasure. She turned her flashlight back and forth looking out for zombies but they still seemed to be in the clear. It was so eery walking through a dead terminal.. pun intended.

She was following Spencer extremely close, and she was sure that her breath was going down his neck, because she could feel it deflect and go back in her face. She really hoped he knew where he was going because she had put all faith in him to get them where they were headed.

Melony held up her hands in defeat about the light issue. Trying not to make a sound she strained her ears for the slightest little disturbance. She could hear both Luce's and Spencer's breathing, and the soft padding of her own feet and Luce's.

Melony's stomach heaved at the smell of dead rotting corpses and she pulled her shirt up over her nose, trying to breath out of her mouth, though that just made her mouth taste like death. Closing it again, she wet back to taking small breaths.

They were half-way down one of the long hallways when a noise made Melony stop, looking behind them, she reached out a hand to slow Luce and Spencer down, pointing back down the hallway

Spence shivered as Luce breathed down the back of his neck. If he hadn't already told them not to talk, he'd snap at the woman. It didn't help that he was constantly fighting the urge to gag. He continued shuffling down the terminal, staying on the tile floor. Fuzzy socks on carpet made noise, and noise at this particular moment was very very bad.

Then Melony heard the noise. Spencer didn't need her to grab him because he'd already frozen in place. He was trying on vain to see in the pitch black airport, and straining his ears for the noise again. He leaned close to Luce's ear (she was closer) and whispered as quietly as he could.

"Staying put does no good," he murmured, "We need to keep going." Yet, no matter how hard Spence tried, he couldn't force his feet to move. He couldn't see a thing, and he arms were trembling, partially with fear and partially because the frying pan was heavy.

Luce stopped in her tracks the moment Spencer and Melony did. She hadn't heard the noise, but she had a feeling that those two did. She listened to Spencer's whispered words and nodded. They needed to keep moving, through fear and indecision.

She made up her mind, they were going to keep on forging forward. She wouldn't die this way and wouldn't let her two survivor friends die either. But she was terrified shitless. She didn't want to move either. She was going to have to though, for if not the sake of herself then the sake of her new survivor friends.

She grabbed spencers hand with her free one and gave it a reassuring squeeze, then began to move forward hoping that Melony was following. But her decision was too late, she heard a groan come from behind them and let go of Spencer's hand.

Protectively she pushed Melony and Spencer behind her and grabbed her bo firmly at her side to face the opponent that snuck up on them. The terror in her body shook through her arms and to the bo causing it to slightly rattle. Her knees bent inward and she felt unsteady. She strained her eyesight hard, and suddenly she saw it. An ugly undead creature lurking but five feet away.

She wanted to scream but her terror quelched her voice, so she ran the short distance and a resounding thud sounded as she wacked the creature on the side of the head with her bo. It fell to the ground like a rock, and she ran over top of it uncontrollably smashing the zombie in the face with her bo. A few shots missed as they hit the tile and let out a loud clatter. Not good, but for some reason she just couldn't stop hitting the thing with her bo.

Tears flooded out of her eyes as she continuelly beat the creature to a pulp, it's body was motionless and she had obviously killed it but time after time, thud thud thud.

Melony stumbled backwards into Spender as Luce pushed her. Melony had to admit, Luce looked pretty bad assed whipping her bo around landing a good soils hit on the side of the zombies head.

Only after the zombie had fallen did Melony notice the shivers running through Luces arms as she continued to raised her weapon up and down smashing into what used to be the zombies head. Mel was pretty sure the zombie was completly dead now.

She ran over to Luce, tugging her off from ontop of the disgusting thing and a few feet away before collapsing next to her, letting her fear and relization of what almost happened wash over her. She wrapped her arms around Luce, as much for her own comfort as for Luce's.

She took a few moments, trying to control her breathing before looking up at Spencer. "Are there anymore?" she listened hard but she could barely hear anything over the pounding of her own heart.

The proximity of the lone zombie did nothing to help Spencer move; in fact it only froze him more solidly in place. Luce's freak out slowly brought Spencer's brain back into gear, and by the time she broke down, Spencer was thinking relatively straight again. He knelt next to the two girls, straining his eyes, ears, nose (wait, no, not nose, he didn't want to throw up) to sense zombies.

"I don't hear any right now," he whispered to Melony, "But our friend here wasn't exactly quiet in her...pummeling, so they can't be far. We need to move, like, right now." Spencer took a few breaths to calm his stomach. Looking at the remains of the zombie did not help him keep his dinner down. Slowly, Spencer stood up, still staring into the darkness of the airport. He tugged on Luce's arm, who still seemed a little out of it, and started dragging her in the general direction of the AirTran doors. Terminal 4 was larger than the one they were in now, and it had more room to run, not to mention a shit-ton of windows they could smash if they couldn't make it to any of the doors.

'Why couldn't we get stuck in Minneapolis?' Spencer thought to himself, 'Or some other airport that's one freaking building?'

Luce fell backwards limply as Melony pulled her back and she fell on her butt. She accepted the arms that wrapped around her. She was still a bit physched out as Melony and Spencer spoke, she kept a blank stare. It wasn't until Spencer grabbed her arm and started pulling her towards the Airtran doors that she pulled herself together and wiped the tears off her face with her arm. She couldn't smell a thing now, thankfully since the tears cause her nose to start running. So she snuffed up her boogers and was thankful for the nose plug.

She still carried her bo now, carrying around the stench she couldn't smell of zombie. She wondered if they would run into any more humans as they travelled in the dark. The flashlight she almost forgot about still shined dimly from her hand, luckily she never dropped it.

But Spencer was right they needed to keep moving, she could worry about whatever she wanted when she wasn't running away from dead animated human corpses that wanted to eat her.

Melony nodded to Spencer, agreeing they needed to move on. As he lead them out to the open room she quickly swept her eyes around the room, noting all the exits. Including the windows. The windows made her pause

The world outside was pitch black, except for the dim lights on the horizon. The way it looked, he rest of the world could have disappeared All together, leaving the lone survivors to fend for themselves. "Do you think there is still anyone left alive" she wondered outloud, to no one in particular.

She shook her head, ridding it of the despressing and despairing thoughts that were now filling it. They would get out of here alive. "What's the plan Spence? Where are we going from here?"

Spencer followed the signs that he couldn't read but knew the words just from seeing them so many times. There were escalators up to the platform, but they weren't moving, so Spencer ran up the steps. He slowed as he reached the top, checking for any zombies.

"C'mon up," he whispered, beckoning Melony and Luce with his hand. He heard Melony's rhetorical question, and rolled his eyes.

"Of course there are still people alive," he said, trying very hard to keep the snarl out of his tone. It was a really stupid question. "As far as we know, there are only zombies in this terminal. Believe me, New York City is putting enough light pollution into the sky to blot out the stars, just on the other side of the wall. Come on, help me find the door. We need out of here." Spencer hopped down from the platform into the rails. It was a lot like a mini-subway station, and the stops of the subway were the terminals.

"Alright, we're gonna force the doors open," Spencer said, pointing to the thin doors separating the terminal from the cold outdoor air. "Then, we'll can either make our way to Terminal 4 or jump off onto the tarmac. I don't know how far down it is, but I think we can survive the drop. Any opinions?"

After following Spencer Luce looked out a window and saw how bright New York city was lit in the far off distance. It made her wonder if they would send some kind of rescue team, or if they had even heard about the chaos that insued at the airport. She couldn't help but snort at Melony's question, but it did make her think, how long would it be before 50% of the earth was infected? And if they were the first ones seeing the zombies so far.

With a grunt Luce also hopped down the platform in to the rails right behind Spencer. "Let's just see how far down the tarmac is before we decide to jump and if it isn't far we can do that, otherwise make our way to Terminal 4." she decided and got a grip on the side of the door, her fingers just barely curling around the edge in the middle where the two doors met. "Help me out here." she said, dropped her bo, and began to pull on her side as she made straining noises.

"I would rather not jump" Melony commented in a whisper. She didn't mind heights too much, but she prefer not to break her leg in the middle of a zombie apocolipse. After all, the injured people in the movies usually died. She swallowed hard, trying not to think about that.

Putting her book into one of the compartments in her back pack, Melony went over to Luce and stuck her fingers in the middle of the door as well, pulling the other door. As they pulled a small crack appeared.

"How about some help Spencer" Melony hissed at him

"I don't think anyone particularly wants to jump," Spencer muttered. He was picturing a few different zombie movies where people with leg injuries died horrible and quite gory deaths. A broken leg definitely counted as a problem, but it might be the best thing to do.

"There might be some type of ladder," Spencer said, "Like, on the supports of the track, meant for mechanics and shit, but I'm not sure where it might be, or how safe."

Spencer clambered down with Melony and Luce, and stood back as they started straining against the door. He would have jumped in immediately, but A) there wasn't much space so he couldn't really fit, and B) he was a scrawny little nerd with no real strength to speak of. Melony scared him into movement though, and Spencer carefully stepped forward, looking at the crack. Considering how much Luce and Melony were straining (And Spence knew Luce was rather strong) his pitiful muscles wouldn't help much. Time for science, guys!

Spencer shifted his grip on his frying pan, holding it so that the handle was facing away from him. He wedged the thin end of the handle into the crack, and shimmied it in, then twisted the fry pan, praying the handle wouldn't snap.

The pan made a bigger opening, and Spencer snagged Luce's bo and shoved it into the space so he could wiggle his fry pan around some more, creating a space large enough for him to wedge his foot into. From there, it was just a matter of maneuvering the frying pan in between the doors to make a wide enough space for the three of them to get to. Spencer forced the frying pan into position, so that it was holding the doors open about a foot, and beckoned urgently with his hand.

"Go through," he urged quietly, "It's wide enough, go!"

Luce was the first to dip through the opening just wide enough to fit herself through. She grabbed her bo on the way out too but when she ducked through the opening her head hit the pan holding the door open and knocked it out of place. She fell on the ground on the other side of the door, holding her head. "Ow..." she moaned.

After rubbing her head she turned around looking for the others, but they weren't there and the door was shut because of her clumsyness. "Oh no..." she breathed. How would Spencer and Melony ever be able to open that door again without her help? She could feel herself begin to tremble as she realized the degree of her situation.

"CRAP!" she yelled in a hushed voice. She banged on the door, "Spencer, Melody?" she called wondering how she would ever meet up with the two of them again. She clutched her makeshift bo near and dear to her before turning around and looking down at the Tarmac and across to terminal 4. Which way would she meet them? The Tarmac was only a six-foot fall, not as bad as she expected, but for the terminal she didn't need to fall at all, just bash open a window to climb in.

"Oh shit!" Melony exclaimed as the doors slammed shut. She caught a glimps of Luce on the other side, on the ground before the doors shut. A wave of panic hit her, they needed Luce and her zombie-smarts, not to mention her weapon skills, she grabbed for the middle of the door again.

"Luce?" She said loud enough to be heard on the other side, but not so loud as to alert any lerking zombies "Hold on, we will get to you, can you help pull from the other side? It will be easier if we all work together okay?"

"Come on" She said to Spencer "use all that adrenaline pumping inside of you" she pulled hard on the other door.
