| Rhadamanthys looked at the gold name tag on his desk. "Richard Manthys..." He chuckled. It had been weird getting used to the name that he had given himself after he had fallen, but slowly it was starting to feel comfortable. He glanced over his brand new desk, as well as around the office he was given. He had a few pictures of birds and famous churches hanging on the walls, and the window on the north wall gave him a great view of the courtyard.
It was his first day as a guidance counselor at Fillmore High, and he was excited to begin work. He knew that his powers would come to use in this field, and it was his way of guiding people towards the light. The bell for homeroom had rang about a minute ago, and he walked over to the brown leather chair that had belonged to the old counselor that retired last year. He wasn't quite sure what would happen in this job, but he was ready for whatever was thrown his way.

| Daniel had been late on his first day, waiting in the office to sign in. He would be getting detention but it really wasn't his fault. He'd been tossed around like a bag by the neighbourhood bullies. The sad thing was they also attended school at the same place and were right on his trail. This meant he would be stuck in detention with them and probably get beaten again like the last time. He winced, remembering how bloodied and bruised he was for a week.
Once he signed in and got his detention slip, he took off to class. He sat in his back seat as it was the first day of school anyway and he only knew this to be his homeroom. He was unfortunate enough to be in the same class as those four bullies as well. He didn't understand why they only seemed to pick on him. He looked at his schedule, noticing he;d gotten the same classes as last year for some. He would have to try and get out during break to see the councillor.

| Rhadamanthys had a generally dull morning. There was nothing to really do at this moment, and he spent his time on work-safe websites. On occasion, one of his coworkers would come in and introduce him or herself to the young man, and he would be civil and give them a small conversation. He had just finished moving a betta fish into his office. This particular betta was about two years old and still looked very healthy, with flowing red fins and an energetic nature. He watched as the fish swam contentedly in its one-gallon fishbowl and smiled.
On occasion he wondered what it would be like to be a fish. Just swimming around in a little bowl, without a care in the world. But unfortunately, he was human. He would never experience the life of a fish. He sighed, turning his eyes from the fish. He had to get to work... whatever that work was at the moment.

| Daniel had somehow slipped by the bullies during break, bringing his schedule along with him. He also had his backpack and other things. He was not leaving them in the class with those ruffians. If he did, he would never pass high school because he would never have anything he needed to study with. He went to the receptionist, signing and planning an appointment for the councillor.
He sat at one of the waiting chairs, wondering if he would get in today or not. He hated being in this room. The past councillor was a real jerk and was just as bad as the bullies, if not a bully himself. He never had anything nice to say and always put people down. This made Daniel feel a bit sceptical of even being there.

| "Excuse me, Mr. Manthys?"
Rhadamanthys up from his computer screen. Delores, the receptionist, was at his door. "You have someone who wants to see you."
"Ah. Very well, then. Tell him to come in." Rhadamanthys adjusted his black tie, making himself look presentable for whoever was going to come in. He wondered what this kid wanted. Well, whatever it was, it would be Richard Manthys's job to provide help. He flexed his shoulders and adjusted himself in his chair to look a little more professional.
He could hear the voice of Delores at the end of the hall telling the boy to come to his office, and the boy thanking her. As his footsteps became louder, he straightened himself in his chair and brushed his hair back. The footsteps stopped, and he assumed that the boy was standing outside the doorway.
"Well, come on in."

| Daniel peered in the door before coming in and sitting in the chair in front of the desk. He gave the councillor his schedule. "There's been a sort of mix up. I've had 3 of these classes since grade 10 and 11. I also passed them then. Is there any was I can switch them for something I haven't had for those same time slots?" He looked at the councillor a bit shyly, not saying more than that. It took him long enough to think if that way to describe that problem. He wouldn't bring up the bullying issue as he usually kept it to himself until his family stepped in last time and that councillor just blew them all off telling him to toughen up cause he was too much of a shrimp.

| Rhadamanthys took the schedule out of the boy's hands and glanced over it. He had already circled the classes that had to be changed, so that made the job a little easier. "Well, I'll see what I can do about this. Good thing you came to me early." He chuckled, punching in the letters and numbers on the computer. He had roamed this earth for a few years now, yet there were times when computers still amazed and baffled him. Fortunately, he got to the place he needed to get to without any problems.
"Okay... I could probably replace your first period class with Psychology, if that's alright with you. And the third period, well..." He glanced over the list. "Have you taken ceramics?"
He wasn't quite sure what the young man was interested in, so at this moment he was simply selecting whatever classes the computer screen was showing to him.

| Daniel didn't mind which classes he was to be put in, so long as those bullies were not in them. "what's the last one about? Any with computers or drawing?" He asked quietly, sliding slowly in the chair. He didn't know if he could trust this councillor since he had not liked the last one. He figured he'd give him a three strikes unless something happened and he was more than willing to help.
"I-I like creating classes, all the basics have people I don't like in there with me." He didn't want to talk any further about it, shutting up after that. He watched as the other looked around for any of those classes being available. Though if not, he did still wonder what that other one was all about.

| "Well, ceramics is working with clay. I took a ceramics class while in school, and it proved to be quite meditative." He grinned. One of the vases he made still held fresh flowers in it every week. "I'll look for more computer courses, though." He typed up a few more words and clicked a few more buttons. As he waited for the new page to load, he looked up at the boy in front of him.
"People you don't like, hmm?" He bit his lower lip, trying to figure out exactly what to say. "Now, you seem like a nice young lad. Why would someone not like you?" he chuckled.
He decided not to glimpse into his past just yet. He felt that would be rude to do to someone he had just met. There were strong waves of stress and nervousness coming off of him, though. He wasn't quite sure what this stress was caused by, but he would try to calm him the best that he could. He would make sure that the boy in the chair in front of him was less stressed when he walked out.

| "Ah. I've never worked with that before. I usually just use a sketchbook and pencil." He sighed happily, thinking of how much he'd improved over the years. Then he went into a very quiet and scared mode. Hearing that question. "just the others like to pick at me...and only me." He went quiet again, not really wanting to talk about that topic. At least not today. He usually did wait until it went bad.
"anything come up yet?" He knew why he was being picked on, but not why it was only him. He was picked on for his name, his geeky exterior, and his hobbies. He was often in the back of the class or close to a window so he could try and ignore the group of four. That's the nickname he had given them.

| Rhadamanthys glanced at the screen. "Well, the only class involving computers available in the slot you're looking at is... Digital Photography." He looked back at the kid in front of him. "I hope that will be okay." He grinned. "Now... do those three classes sound good to you? Because if you want one changed, I can do that. It's good you came to me now. Much easier to change classes on the first day than later on."l
He looked closely at the boy, and glanced at his schedule. 'Daniel Hooper, hm? Nice name.' He thought, looking at the schedule given to him. He thought schools usually kept a pretty good record of things like what classes students took already as opposed to what they have not taken yet. Then again, he had never been through high school, so maybe it worked out differently than what he thought.
Right now, though, he was more concerned with this boy's problem with other people his age. Every time he mentioned them, a new wave of stress came out of his body, washing the room with a somewhat melancholy air. Unfortunately, he didn't know what to do about it.

| Daniel looked at the new schedule on screen. "No that looks fine." He knew those classes of choice would think twice before sending the four into them. They lacked interest in those type of things thus, they would be into the sports classes like gym and other things of that nature. He waited for the new schedule to be printed. He hoped to not dwell on anything further today as he never took any help he had been previously offered. Though he had a reason to be that way. "thanks." He turned to leave before his next class would begin. He inwardly groaned as it was a common class and he would have to put up with them in there too.

| "Very well then!" Rhadamanthys clapped his hands together, taking the new schedule out of the printer. "Just show this to your new teachers. Their attendance sheet should be changed by next week. If it isn't, co"me see me again and we'll get things straightened out." The next emotion coming out of him was one that Rhadamanthys was hoping to feel- relief. He was glad to know that he did the right thing for the kid.
"Oh yes, If you need any help at all with your problems with other students, you know where I am. Don't hesitate to come to me." He gave a genuine smile to the boy. "I'll listen to you."

| Daniel quietly left, not saying anything to the last bit of what he'd said. He got to class in time to be tripped and slapped as he sat in the very back. He sighed, wishing the class would end even before it started. After he had been verbally abused all class in notes and spit balls, he ran like hell towards his new class before lunch. He was glad when he did not see any of them follow him in. He took his schedule up to the front desk, letting the teacher fill him in as a new student for the class list.
The rest of the day went the same until after school. The councillor window being within view of a big fight. Daniel was going to be beaten badly again for something he was blamed for which was not his fault. He was getting beaten for telling on them the last time they beat him. This time they would beat him good unless someone stepped in to stop the fighting. He had been dragged out into the middle of the swarm of students who were chanting "fight! fight! fight!"

| "Oh goodness..." Rhadamanthys could hear Delores mutter from her desk as the commotion. "There they go again."
"There who go again?" Rhadamanthys poked his head out of his door to see the gaggle of students circled in a tight group. "Is anyone going to stop this?" He looked at the group in shock.
Delores shrugged. "It breaks up after a few minutes. I wouldn't worry too much about it."
Rhadamanthys shook his head. "I'm not going to stand by." He walked out of the office and towards the group, shoving his way through the mass of students. He wasn't expecting what he saw in the middle of it.
Daniel. This is what the feelings of stress and anxiety were coming from. Despite how long he had been on earth, these shows of cruelty were still shocking to him. If only they knew what would come afterwards... He sighed, and then shook himself out of his thoughts.
"Alright, alright. BREAK IT UP." He shouted, grabbing one of Daniel's assailants and pulling him off of the boy.
