| Are awesome.
Morels will be out in April sometime... I can't wait!
Anyone else like to hike, forage, or mushroom-hunt?
Maybe you have a rock collection?

| Ooo, I love hiking, but I go birdwatching and sketch birds. Foraging seems fun but I don't need more 'stuff'. Eating, however ...

| Yeah, I forage to eat
I have plans this summer to extract tannins from acorns so that I can dye plant material (such as soy and cotton) without buying the tannic acid. So really, foraging is a means for me to save money LOL

| My dad's an avid mycophagist (someone who's really into eating mushrooms). He forages for all sorts of mushrooms, mostly lobster mushrooms and chantarelles, which I love. We also grow shitake and other mushrooms in the backyard.
I'm more of a birder, myself. I used to keep a lifelist, but I haven't updated it in years... I'm very casual about birding, though I am the sort of person who will bring her binoculars to the beach (and in the middle of winter too)!

Wow that is awesome! Wish one of my family members was into the eating of the mushrooms too
Whereabouts do you live? I have yet to find any chantarelles - I live in CT. Maybe I'm just overlooking them.
My brother went bird watching a few times (is that the same thing?). And what is a life list?

| I live in Maine. According to an article I read, chanterelles are found across the northern US... so you may have them
Yeah, birdwatching is the same as birding. I just tend to say "birding" because it encompasses more than just watching the birds (things such as studying them and drawing them).
A "life list" is what bird people call the list of all the birds they've identified in their lifetime! Often it includes dates and places when/where they found the rarer birds (called "lifers"). It's a really nerdy pastime.

| Heck no, that sounds like fun!
I spend so much time outside (more so during summer and fall than now, during winter) and I see so many animals and birds, I was considering keeping my own 'life list', but had no idea that there was actually a name for it haha
How cool! I may just start my own starting very soon... it's starting to warm up, and I'm gearing up to get back out in the woods. =)
So have you found any lifers? And if so, what were they? Do you draw birds?

I do draw birds... I'm in art school right now, and they're my favorite subject.
I've found a few good lifers, such as the Great Egret I saw in a pond in Vermont (they only come through the area while migrating).
Most of the lifers I've seen were a result of travel, like the Brewer's Blackbirds in California and the Nenes in Hawaii. My favorite finds, though, were the Anna's Hummingbirds I saw long ago in San Francisco (my name is Anna).
I also keep a list of the birds I've found in my own backyard, the most interesting of which have been Hermit Thrushes, woodpeckers, and various hawks. And the Ruby-Crowned Kinglets I saw all over the place for a few days a year or two ago... those were adorable (they're tiny)!

| Aww.. that sounds like fun! I <3 birds so much haha
And wow, you are well traveled. The farthest from CT I've been in Florida lol But the boyfriend promises to take me to Puerto Rico the next time he goes. =)
Maybe by then I'll be keeping track of birds I've seen.
I wonder if people go mammaling?

| I do love to travel... and my grandparents move a lot, all over the world, so much of my traveling has been to visit them. I've been to Florida too... when I was one. I don't remember it (too bad, because they have a lot of great shorebirds there).
I wonder too! I'm sure some people do, though I don't think it's as prevalent as birding.

| I might just start the first forum devoted to mammaling LOL I wonder how many people I could get to join? xD
Now I wonder about amphibianing... and sicking (how many different strains of the common cold can you catch?)
