... If it's only 4 years old, it shouldn't be running slow. o_o Sounds like you have virus, spyware and/or adware on your computer. Or it needs a long needed defrag.

First off, download an anti-virus program. The #1 free anti-virus software on the net, currently, is AVAST. Download it here. And of course, download the free version and do as it says.
Now for the spyware. Ad-Aware from Lavasoft hasn't failed me yet. It's not free, but it has a free trial. Long enough to help out your computer. It also helps protect you from visus. Download it here
The totally free alternative to Ad-Aware is Spybot Search and Destroy. It helps get rid of icky spyware that transfers personal information (passwords, credit/debit card numbers, ect). Download it here.
If your computer is STILL slow after all that go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter. Then analyze and Defragment.

With Avast, when you install it, it's going to want to do a clean sweep of all your computer. So when you restart your comp, it's going to thoroughly check everything. Which, depending on how much disk space you have, could take up to two hours. ^^; (Lord knows mine takes an hour and a half...)
