Basically, you can't equip weapons before starting a battle. They will all appear once you start the fight. So just head to battle, and then scroll to the options at the bottom of the page, select what weapon you want to use, and click attack. You can change weapon at any time you want by selecting a new one, and potions and spells work just the same way. Just remember that you will not be able to buy anything while you're in a battle (or trade with other users), so be sure to get everything you need before you start fighting.
