You came in the middle of our halloween event, and it will probably take some hard core posting/ battling to catch up 
For tips and whatnot for the general use of the site, there's the newbie guide, and at the top of the event forum is a guide to the event.
If you find yourself wanting to battle, I do suggest popping over to the Weapons for Whelps charity after you roll your character to get hooked up with a weapon. You can also buy some useful starting out stuff in the newbie store.
