Nene and the Golden Starship
Sixteen year old Nene Blake is upset at the fact that she failed her driver's test for the fourth time. While walking home from the DMV, she sees a strange meteor fall from the sky and crash in a nearby park. The naturally curious girl went towards the park to investigate, and found a damaged golden spaceship with an almost dead and obviously alien pilot. She ran up to see if the passenger was alright, and was handed a strange-looking cube.
"There is no time..." the pilot said. "You must command the ship now..." And with that, the pilot closed its eyes and vanished, leaving Nene alone with a golden ship and a cube. Nene stared at the ship for a moment and then hopped into what looked like the driver's seat. Upon jumping in, the door closes and the ship flies off with her in it. She sails through the stars for a few minutes until landing on a strange spaceport. She exits to find herself surrounded by strange-looking creatures that command golden ships that look just like hers.
Eventually, she learns that she is at the headquarters of the Golden Star Squad, a team of intergalactic do-gooders that defend the galaxies from the forces of evil. The previous owner of the ship was a very experienced member of the squad who was heading to find its replacement in the Andromeda galaxy. Unfortunately, she was shot down by a thug of Xorn, one of the galaxy's most powerful crime lords. She crashed on Earth, and ended up giving her ship to Nene instead of the chosen pilot. Now that the ship is encrpyted to her DNA, though, she is the only one who can pilot it. She is teamed up with Nanabu, a Rigellian and an experienced member of the squad, and sent back to Earth to go about her normal business. At any time, though, the Squad can call her off on a mission.
Can Nene learn how to pilot a spaceship and help save the galaxy, all while keeping her grades above a C? Only time will tell...
Main Characters:
Nene Blake: This sixteen year old girl is the reluctant newest pilot of the Golden Star Squad. She is a sweet, caring, and always willing to help those in need. She has her own way of taking care of situations that occaisonally goes against protocol, but is always effective. She can tell that her partner Nanabu has a bit of a crush on her, but she's not quite sure if she feels the same way...
Nanabu: Nene's partner and a senior member of the Golden Star Squad. He hails from the Rigel galaxy and is one of the best pilots to come out of that area. He follows the rules by the book and makes sure that Nene does the same. He is somewhat smitten by her readiness to do the right thing, but knows that protocol forbids a relationship between them, so he keeps his feelings secret.
Widge: The helpful yet sarcastic computer of Nene's Starship. It is a wellspring of knowledge when it comes to informing Nene about the various galaxies and the beings that live in them.
