Hello and welcome to the OOC thread for my first Roleplay, The New Tribe. Here you can find all the information you need about the world of the roleplay.

The roleplay will be based off of the world of Elfquest, but you don't have to have read the comics in order to play. If you do want to read the comics, though go here. The author and artist have put up the complete comic for you viewing pleasure.

Rules

-Follow all the rules of the roleplaying forum. Yes, this is a given, but I feel that it should be mentioned.
-All posts must be at least a paragraph long. I will not tolerate one-liners. And use proper spelling and grammar. This is a semi-literate roleplay, meaning good grammar and spelling, but you don't have to be too lengthy.
-Refrain from godmoding. There are a few other boards around here that give GREAT descriptions of godmoding, so I'll link to them when I have the time
-Post profiles on this thread. Not on the actual roleplay, and try to keep OOC conversations to a minimum. This board is here for that.
-This is based in a Medieval world, maybe borderline renaissance. Nothing modern or futuristic is allowed.
-As more rules come to mind, I will add them here.

Character Creation Rules

-You can play an elf, human, or troll, but keep in mind that humans and trolls are not magic users.
-Only one power per elf. Having more than one would be a little too godmod-y for my tastes. The exception to the "one power" rule is the Gliders. They can have two to three, because they are closer in bloodline to the firstcomer elves.
-There can only be one Glider in this roleplay. At this time, the home of the gliders was completely destroyed and most of them didn't make it out alive. The other tribes are completely fair game.
-When aging a troll character, they age exactly the same way as elves do. Elves reach full adulthood at about 600 years old.
-Humans age normally.

The Story

The world of Abode is inhabited by many different creatures, including Humans, Elves, Trolls, and the enigmatic Preservers. They have lived apart from each other, doing their best not to get in each other's way. Recently, though, the humans have grown in population, and have been taking land, including the land that had been the homeplaces of the elves. In the battles over the land, the humans eventually won and the elves were cast to the far reaches of the world.

Now the remaining elves are living in one area as a new tribe, and unsure as to what they are going to do. Will they fight back and try to regain their lost land, or will they live on what they were allowed to keep, doing their best to keep peace? It is up to the New Tribe to decide...

The Original Elf Tribes

Before the elves were forced into one tribe, there were four seperate groups of elves.

Wolfriders: These elves lived in the forests of Abode, keeping themselves secret from the humans. Their bloodline is mixed with that of the wolves, making them mortal elves, but their lifespan is still almost a millennia. They also have the ability to bond with wolves, and take a wolf partner at a young age. A wolfrider will go through about two or three wolves in a lifespan. Wolfriders that are also magic-users are most likely Tree-Shapers or Healers.

Sun-Folk: These peaceful desert-dwellers denied the existence of humans until they saw them. They have good relations with all other tribes, making them perfect diplomats. They are used to surviving in hard conditions and have learned all sorts of different methods to survive in the wilderness. Most Sun-Folk that also use magic are healers and rock-shapers.

Gliders: This mysterious tribe is almost completely gone after their mountain home was destroyed. They are a very small tribe, and the most magical. All of them are able to glide, and some can rock-shape, use telekinesis, or heal. Their dark leader, Winnowill, was the master of a dark technique called "Anti-Healing" or "Black-Sending", which caused physical and mental pain. There can only be one glider in the roleplay.

Go-Backs: The Go-Backs are an off-shoot of the Wolfrider tribe after a schism millennia ago. They are physically the strongest of the elf tribes and also the least magical, but some of them have magic powers as fire-starters and rock-shapers. They prefer not to use their magic, though, seeing it as being "weak". They lived on the frozen mountains and rode reindeer into battle.

Other Races

Other than the elf tribes, there are three other races on the world of Abode.

Trolls: A very, VERY distant relative of the elf, trolls live underground in seemingly endless caverns. They are experinced in the arts of metal-working and treasure hunting, and will trade their wares for food and pelts from the elves.

Preservers: Preservers are asexual fairy-like creatures that work with the elves. They have the ability to preserve still objects in a weblike material that they also use to blind opponents.

Humans: Very similar to the one on our world, but they are in a medieval state of civilization. They are xenophobic, thinking of the elves as "evil spirits". A few of them are sympatheitc towards the Elves and their companions, and want to help them get their land back.

Magic Powers

Only Elves can have magic. The selection of powers is as followed:

Sending: All elves have the ability to send. This is the ability to mentally speak with each other within a certian range. There are private sendings between a small group, and open sendings that can be heard by any elf in the area. When sending, make sure to put it in asterisks and italics, like this:
*This is what sending looks like, guys! This will help differentiate it from talking and thinking!*

Tree-Shaping: Tree-shaping is the ability to force plants to grow and shape them to your will. With Tree-Shaping, you can give thorns to a plant that usually does not have them, shape a stick into the perfect longbow, or naturally hollow out areas of trees to make inhabitable areas.

Rock-Shaping: Take the abilities from tree-shaping, only apply them to rock.

Healing: Elves that can heal are prized in a tribe. They can mend bones and skin, as well as banish diseases.

Fire-Starting: Fire-starters have the ability to ignite flammable materials.

Telekinesis/Gliding: Telekinesis is the ability to lift small things with your mind. Gliding is basically the ability to use telekinesis on yourself to glide through the air.

Black-Sending: Black sending, also known as anti-healing, is the ability to cause pain with a touch by twisting healing energies into something dark. Black sending is forbidden among elves.

Shielding: This is the ability to create barriers against both physical and mental attacks.

Accepted Characters

Quote:
Username: Keylaleigh
Character Name: Ayoris
Age: 724
Gender: Female
Race: Elf
Original Tribe: Go-Back
Magical Powers: None
Weapons: She uses a troll-forged short-sword in one hand and a dagger in the other.
Appearance: Ayoris is about four feet, an average height for elves, and very muscular. She keeps her black hair very short so it won't get in her grey-blue eyes while fighting. She wears a tan sleeveless shirt and tan pants, both lined with a thin layer of white fur and soft brown boots.
Personality: Ayoris is a feisty young warrior that enjoys charred meat and bloodshed. She is more than willing to start a fight with anybody who looks at her funny, and will most likely win. Once you get through that outer shell, though, you will see that she is loyal to the end and willing to put down her weapons for the good of the tribe. She'll be very unhappy, but she'll do it.
Back-Story: Ayoris watched a lot of her tribe fall around her during the fights with the humans, and wants to avenge their deaths. She was born into a life that she knew was much shorter than most other elf tribes because of the climate and their constant state of battle with aggressive trolls that wanted their side of the mountain. While battling the humans, she took many down before being forced to surrender. She still considers that her greatest regret and at times wishes that she had fallen along with her friends. She realizes that she didn't, though, and instead wants to fight the humans with all she got to make sure they did not fight in vain.

Quote:
Username: Tsemara
Character Name: Dusk
Age: 450
Gender: Female
Race: Elf
Original Tribe: Wolfriders
Magical Powers: Healer
Weapons: Longbow and troll forged dagger.
Appearance: Dusk stands at just under four feet in height. Her skin is slightly tanned, with lithe muscles beneath. She has light blue eyes and long arctic blue hair. (Hair so black it looks blue in certain lighting.) She usually ties it back in a ponytail to keep it out of her face. She wears a soft leather jerkin dyed a dark green color, dark brown pants, and soft leather boots.
Personality: If it doesn’t have anything to do with hunting, healing, or humans, Dusk has a hard time taking it seriously. She is usually impulsive and doesn’t think too much on the long term consequences of her actions. She might not truly be a follower of ‘the Way’, but she certainly seems to be ever in ‘the Now’ of wolf thought. Dusk is fiercely protective of her pack mates, and will do whatever she believes is necessary to protect them. However, she is not too proud to run if that is the wisest, or only, option available.
Back-Story: Dusk was named for her dark hair. She was too young to remember the initial attack that drove the Wolfriders from their Holt. However, she knows that humans were the reason they were uprooted from their home. Her healing abilities manifested after a particularly vicious attack that involved the humans using fire to attempt to burn them out. For this, Dusk will forever dislike, if not hate, humans. However, this hasn’t stopped her from learning the basics of their language. She found her wolf friend on the night of a harvest moon. She named him Bloodmoon for the moons’ red glow. He is barely big enough to support her weight, being only a year and a half old.

Quote:
Username: Maeve
Character Name: Zent
Age: 16 years old
Gender: Male
Race: Human
Weapons: A sling and a wooden staff
Appearance: Zent is around 5'6" tall, with short brown hair, brown eyes and a tan skin. He has an athletic built from all the time he spends hunting or training to fight to protect his village if needed. He normally wears leather pants and a small leather vest, with additions of furs during the cold season. A simple pair of leather boots complete the picture. He keeps his sling tied at his waist, and his staff in his hands most of the time.
Personality: Zent is a rather down-to-earth young man. Like the other of his kind, he has heard stories about elves and other fairy-like creatures, but he doesn't care much about it. Yes, he has heard stories of "spirits" stealing babies, hurting men and burning down villages, but he has heard just as many good stories about them. As long as those things are not hurting him or anyone he loves, and they leave his fields and beasts alone, he doesn't mind them being nearby. He is friendly, though often cautious with strangers, and will do anything to protect his home.
Back-Story: Zent grew up in a small village at the edge of the human territory, along with his parents, 3 sisters, 2 brothers, and the rest of the clan. A long time ago, it had been the setting of many battles between the humans and the other races, but nowadays, no one could even recall seeing a spirit. His father died of a strange disease when Zent was only 10 years old. Being the oldest male of the family, he became the new "man-of-the-house" by default. It didn't meant anything until he was 14, when he actually inherited the farm of his father and became responsible for bringing food on the table. Since that time, Zent has been busy caring for the few cows they have and working in the fields. He takes pride in what he does and enjoys his simple life, though he sometimes wishes it was easier on the other members of his clan, having seen many of them died of exhaustion or disease without anyone being able to help them. In the back of his mind, he thinks the ancient spirits could probably help the humans, but he will never say so in front of the other tribesfolks.

Quote:
Username: Seijre
Character Name: Emrys
Age: 386
Gender: Female
Race: Elf
Original Tribe: Sun Folk (Jackwolf rider)
Magical Powers: Sheilding (untrained)
Weapons: Arrow whip, troll forged dagger. She can also use a regular bow, but not very skillfully.
Appearance: About three foot five, Emrys has not yet finished growing. She wears her dark hair fairly long, in a loose ponytail. A former sun-villager, she still prefers bright, decorative, flowing clothing. However, in an effort to fit in with her new tribe and its rules, she wears muted colors and keeps her jewelry in a box in her sleeping space. Ermys has sea-green eyes.
Personality: Although she is still just a cub compared to many of those around her, Emrys wants to prove herself to her new tribe. She is curious about the world around her, mostly because she was forced to see more of the world than she would have even thought of exploring due to her tribe leaving their home because of humans. Like many, she has seen death and destruction caused by humans and has an intense dislike of them. She is rather stubborn, but enjoys time to herself and wishes things could be as peaceful as they were in her earliest memories of Sorrow's End.
Back-Story: Emrys’ shielding power was discovered by accident, as she uses it mostly without thinking. She hasn’t had the training to utilize it in a way that will make her more useful to others, but she longs to master the gift and use it to protect her tribe. She has already seen the loss of more than one home and doesn’t want to lose another, or any more of her friends. Her current Jackwolf is still a cub, as her previous mount was killed in a skirmish with humans. She named him Sandstone in memory of her once home, Sorrow’s End. She is proud of the wolfrider heritage in her blood, although the wolf instincts are not as strong in her as they are in a full wolfrider.

Banners!

As you can see in my signature, I made some banners for this roleplay! Mostly out of boredom, but if you want to use them, feel free to do so!

Code:
[url=INSERT RP LINK HERE][IMG]http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac11/KeyLaLovely/newtribe.jpg[/IMG][/url]

Code:

I have to put the "insert here" thing in there because if I don't, it'll just show the image and not the code.

Other Tribe Members

While we have our main characters, there are a few other people in The New Tribe. These characters are open to anybody to take control of as well as your normal characters. If anybody in the roleplay makes a tribe member, just PM me a short profile with their name, original tribe, magic if they have any, and their age. I will add them to this list.

Zhey- Sunfolk- Rock Shaper- 509 years old- Zhey is a gentle soul that doesn't want to hurt anybody. He loves music, and can sometimes be seeing playing the pipes. He wears mostly yellows and oranges, and has short hair that is always somewhat messy.
