I'm quite heavily into cooking, something that my fleeting good health is a testament to. However, I figured we could try to make some sort of delicious cooking thread to inspire eachother with good food. Hell, everyone likes to talk about food! And if you learn something, well - We'll leave that for now.

In celebration of today being monday, I cooked up some home-made burgers for the missus and myself. The reason I mention this is because they were not only fucking delicious, but heart-shaped - I had managed to find some heart-shaped buns in the store in accordance with the coming Valentine's Day, and since they were cheap I bought them. Now, the secrets to a good burger are the following: A good dressing, a steady hand and no restraints. Seriously, making a burger should include no less than 3 of the following:
- Cheese
- Bacon
- Bacon and Cheese
- Garlic
Today's heart shaped culinary masterpiece had about half a garlic in the dressing, and double bacon plus cheese. Add to that lettuce, tomato, cucumber (for myself, the missus said no) and a barbeque-garlic dressing with a hint of chili, and you got yourself a burger worth munching. Oh, and a 7 ounce patty. Good times.

So share with me your culinary masterpieces. Or disasters. Personally I rarely use recipes, but I'd gladly share my wisdom of such things as:
- The Perfect Sandwich (Chicken/Turkey/Tuna)
- Grilled Salmon with Creamy Pasta
- Burgers 101
- Pasta Extravaganza
- Eggs, Eggs and Eggs!
- Steaks and Marinades aplenty! (including pork, chicken/turkey and beef/venison)
- Quick Food for the Lazy Dood

Let the cooking-- BEGIN!

One of my all time favorite dishes. SPAM, yams and rice. I'd be happy to share!

Yeah, I have a couple recipes that are really good, hanging around somewhere, if anyone is interested.

Branny, you should try your chicken in a fajita wrap with a dressing of Sour Cream, mixed with fresh dill, salt, fresh pepper, a bit of garlic and a hint of lemon juice. Then cook your chicken in a frying pan with some olive oil, some basil if you have it, and apply it to the fajita along with lettuce and tomato. It's perfect for a quick and dirty yet delicious lunch.

Tsemara, you should share them! Happy I don't even know what yams is, apart from some sort of cat food, so I'd love to be enlightened!

I hate working with rice, such a mess. I'd just make the chicken, all tender and lovely, and eat that. Plenty of pepper, too. Yum! Happy

Yams are similar to sweet potatoes. But they are so close in taste and color that many people get them confused. Both are good, in my opinion. Especially with a sprinkling of brown sugar.

And I believe you are thinking of Iams.

Oh, yeah, Iams. XD I do think I know of what you speak, but I gotta disagree on the sugar. Personally, anyway. I am not a fan of caramel and potatoes in one dish. But, luckily, to each his own. Then again, I abhor melon and ham together. Others find it delicious. It's the philosophy of cooking. Like Zen, only tastier, or the Kama Sutra, only less.. involved.

What can I say? I've got a sweet tooth. Always have.

And um, right, you are more than welcome to your philosophical cooking. I have to say, I've never heard anyone put it quite in that wording.

Well, if you think about it, cooking is a good metaphor for life. You ARE the potato, and the peel is coming off, maturing you, making you grow as a person, the knife dividing you into parts, a work-part, a family part, a friend part, and then you are thrown into the stew of life, boiling along with the stupid leeks and the delicious strips of chicken breast, and just when you think you understand the way everything fits together you're eaten by the great big man above.

Right? Right?!

I'm not much into cooking, but I like baking. Cookies, particularly, but in Summer I like to make some fruit shortbread.

Fajita =
Turkey or chicken breast fillets cut into strips and marinated in:
Lemon juice, vegetable oil, chili seeds, white wine worchester sauce, minced garlic.
Sliced peppers and onion, Quick sauté, apply to warmed tortilla, add grated cheddar, sour cream, salsa, guacamole or sliced avocado if preferable (not for me. Euch.) and wrappy wrap YUMMERS.

El Old Paso kits make me angry. Mum's recipe all the way. Smile

When it comes to cooking, I'm more of a soup person. My cream of potato soup is the best ever! Plus if you've ever had the chicken and gnocchi soup at the olive garden, I've recreated that perfectly!
