Welcome to Lani's Little Haven

I closed my eyes one day and found myself in a new dimension.

The soft, silky sheets of my bed were long gone and replaced by the gritty feeling of hot, white sand.

I remember looking around confused. A moment before I had just been tired and rubbing my eyes, and now I sit on a deserted beach decorated with sea shells.

I turned around and saw a thick luscious forrest that greeted the edge of the beach and my jaw dropped in amazement.

Slowly, I rose to my feet and brushed the dry sand off my legs. I felt naked in my nighty even though I was alone.

I made my way to the forrest edge and looked between two big, old trees and a clearing was nearby, not two rows of trees away. So, there I headed and when I arrived I noticed a rope ladder along the length of the single tree that sat in the middle of the clearing.

Without a second thought, or hesitation I climbed the ladder and in a few moments I reached its top. I grabbed the wooden handles that lay above the ladder and dragged myself up.

My eyes were greeted with a tree top paradise. A wooden cottage in place of a tree house. My eyes soon made their way to the door which had a wooden notice nailed to it, with my name written on to it. I slowly walked over to the door and as I did, it began to swing open. When I stopped in shock, so did the door. I realised it must somehow be rigged to do that and walked towards the house none the less.

As I placed one palm on the door I peeked inside the cottage and a strong aroma of wood and honey greeted me. It was dark inside so I couldn't see much. That was when I rubbed my eyes and returned home.

The Next Day

As I awoke from my slumber I had rubbed my eyes...

The night before I had somehow managed to convince myself that it had just been a dream but, as the beach slowly materialised in front of me I realised that was just a lie.

I swept my fingers through the grains of sand and they felt real. I could smell and taste the salty air. The sun beat down upon my skin radiating heat and making me feel instantly warm. If this were not reality than my imagination was definitely improving.

Suddenly, I remembered the clearing, and the tree top cottage. I do not know why but I smiled. In a way I felt like I was returning home, and I couldn't explain it.

So, I stood up again and returned to the forrest. I soon approached the rope ladder and again climbed it, then walked to the cottage entrance.

It was still impenetrably dark inside the cottage, but I had a feeling that there would be candles somewhere.

I was somehow able to navigate the cottage in near darkness and found the nearest curtain which I pulled open, it didn't help much but it enough to see the out lines of all the furniture.

A small wooden coffee table surrounded by a few settees and a writing desk and chair in the corner. There were also three doors.

I approached the writing desk and noticed the outline of a candle as I drew nearer, in the real world I might have assumed that the candle in a wooden cottage, on a wooden table in a tree might be a fire hazard but I didn't have that concern at that time, in that place.

I opened one of the few draws of the writing desk and inside were a few candles and a few boxes of matches. I drew a box of matches, pulled out one and stroke it. The yellow flamed sent an almost eerie glow around the cottage as I lit the wick of the candle.

I still made sure to check that the match was out before I entered one of the other doors to what I somehow knew was the kitchenette.

It wasn't large enough to be called a kitchen. All it contained was a cupboard to hold food, mostly berries and coconuts, a few utensils like wooden cutlery were in a drawer, a small tin bucket that could be used as a sink and a small stove oven sat in the corner. Other than that, a table, laden with what appeared to be a home made table cloth and a few chairs lay in the middle of the room.

I placed the candle into the tin bucket, and again at the time I didn't even think twice how a tin bucket had managed to find its way into a wooden cottage in a tree top, on a secluded beach.

Without even thinking, I rubbed my eyes and returned home.

Day Three

Almost immediately when I returned home to my room I rubbed my eyes to return but, something must have been different as I was unable to return again that night and eventually I just resigned to sleep as I always do.

Day Four

I was starting to realise that everytime I visited my little haven I would appear on the sandy beach shore although, I still had no idea why.

Again, I sat brushing the grains of gritty sand off my palms and smelling the strong salty smell of the crashing waves. I stripped to my underclothes and went into the ocean up to my knees. I was surprised by the warmth of the waves and happily sunk in deeper.

Hours might have been spent in those waves yet I might have only been swimming minutes. Time seemed to have different meaning here.

I splashed around until suddenly, accidently I splashed water in my eye and rubbed it.

Suddenly, yet again I was on my bed only this time, I was only in my wet underclothes.

Day Five

The next day I returned to my secret haven.

I could almost taste the salty air as I appeared on the shore and made my way to the forrest entrance at my own pace.

The moss covered tree trunks smelt surprisingly delicious and I was almost sent into delirium by their exotic scent.

I sat in the middle of the nearest clearing with my legs crossed just to clear my head.

In only moments I felt relaxed and this time purposely returned home with the rub of my eyes.
