Not quite done yet!!

Prologue

The shadow crept through the underbrush. It was watching the creature search for its prey. It hadn't had such luck yet. Then out from the grass, there it is was. The rabbit was ten feet away. It got down, ready to pounce. Then it heard something. A branch cracked. The shadow, had stepped on the branch. The rabbit dashed away in alarm. “Dang it,” thought the shadow. The creature was so close to catching its prey and the shadow blew it. It was becoming dark.
“I have to get back to the clearing,” thought the wolf as it ran back to the clearing. It was free. It was home.

Chapter One

Luna was in the castle, listening to a boring meeting with the king. Her meeting dress was stuffy, hot, and itchy. It was the sort of dress that ugly land ladies would where. You know, the kind that were dull and looked like someone threw up on it. Even though the king was her father, and she loved him dearly, he could rant on like a mad man, and servant work would seem like freedom compared to sitting through one of his tortuous lectures. She would rather be riding her horse, searching for her stone.
“When can I go daddy?” she asked.
“When I am done, young one.”
“Which in never”, she muttered.
“Mom can I go?” Luna asked.
“Yes, you may,” said the queen.
“Yes!” she shouted. She ran out of the room.
“Be careful,” said her father. But she was long gone. Luna raced up the corridor, up the spiral staircase, and into her bed chamber. She threw off the disgusting meeting dress and tossed on her riding dress and cloak. Her dress was an exquisite silk on the inside, and a sturdy flannel on the outside. The color of the dress itself was a lavender purple, which was her favorite color. Her riding cloak was a grape colored flannel material. Her shoes were black boots and sturdy, but well worn since riding was one of her favorite things to do. After her hair was pinned up, she flew down the staircase and out to the stables. She got the stable boy, and got on her pure white horse, Angel. She rode in to the woods, long blond hair, now pinned in a ponytail, flowing behind her like wheat in a field.
Soon she found a clearing and stopped to rest. It had a beautiful crystal blue pond, and grass so green, a glimpse of it would permanently burn it in your mind. Angel who was doing all the work, went down to the pond and happily drank. There were willow trees, of whose low hanging branches touched the water. Luna went down to the pond, wanting to fill her canteen.
She set her sword down and filled it. She whistled for her horse, but it didn't budge. Then she saw why the horse didn't move. Goodness, there was a wolf there! She pulled on Angel's lead rope. The horse finally jolted. The wolf was running after her! She found shelter in a near by crevice. The wolf started to smell the air. Then, the wolf stared at the spot where she was hiding.
The wolf came up to her, blue eyes penetrating her soul. Then the unexpected happened. The wolf came up to her and started licking her face. Then when Luna had had enough, the wolf leaped off her chest.
“I will call you Cloudancer,” declared Luna. The wolf gave her another lick. They sat there awhile, just staring at each other. Cloudancer's lustrous fur was a silvery–gray color, with aqua blue eyes. “ I have to go now,” said Luna. “It's getting late, and my parents will worry about me.” Luna got out of the cave and got on her horse. She started to ride off. The wolf was following her. “Aw, I guess you can come.” The wolf yelped happily and ran along side her. “But what will my parents say when I bring home a wolf?” She decided to not think about details until she got home.

Chapter Two

“What is that thing?” shouted Luna's mother.
“It's a wolf,” said Luna. “He's quite tame.”

Cloudancer came up and licked the queen's face. She started to laugh.
“See, that's proof!” Luna declared.
“Alright, you can keep him,” consented Luna's mother.
“Awesome!” shouted Luna. “I love you!”
“Mom, I will now retire to my bed chamber,” said Luna.
“ Yes, so shall I,”said her mother.
“Good night,”replied Luna.
Cloudancer followed her to the bed chamber. She took off her riding outfit and put on a sparklely blue-tinted night gown with flowing blue sleeves. Luna unpinned her long, flowing hair, which went down to her thighs. She said good night to Cloudancer, and went to sleep.
Her dreams were normal, until she came upon a face she recognized. It was William, her secret lover. He went away to war when he was 15. She was 13 when he left. It had been three years since the war started. He died trying to save his friend. She missed him so much. He would be 18 next week if he were still alive. His friend that he had saved, gave her his beloved sword. Ever since, she had started to carry his sword with her.
She was looking for a jewel that he had given her four years ago. She lost it in the woods while riding her horse. She had searched for it several times. It seemed to have disappeared with him. Now his sword is all she had left of him. It broke her heart time and time again to ride into the woods early in the morning and return late at night unsuccessful. Then she heard a musical instrument that sounded somewhat like a flute. It was beautiful, and Luna felt like it expressed all her feelings from the past four years. The sadness and pain when William died, and the joy of countless other things.
After that most of her dreams were normal. Which is to say she doesn't remember them.

Chapter Three

The shadow followed the wolf back to the clearing. The shadow watched as the wolf approached the princess. The shadow knew exactly what that wolf was thinking.
The shadow decided to leave them alone, knowing that anything but harm will come to the princess. The shadow clutched the purple and blue stone tightly. It's glow, if not subdued, would be as noticeable as any bright candle in the fading sunlight. The shadow thought of what its next move would be now that the wolf had found the girl.
The shadow suddenly found itself at the gateway to its home.
“ Where have you been?!” called a woman from the gate. “ You haven't been out with that wolf again have you?”
“ Go away!” shouted the shadow. The woman laughed. She evaporated into nothing. The shadow felt close to tears. Those stupid whatever they are had bothered the shadow since its parents and people had been killed off.
“There's nothing I can do about that now,” said the shadow as it glided to the grand double doors, now old and worn, their golden shine gone forever. The shadow opened the door with a touch to the center of the door, where the symbol of the shadow's family crest was. It was a regal griffin, gold and fierce. The shadow took off its mid-night colored cloak, embroidered with gold at the edges. The shadow changed into night clothes and sat on the dusty bed, just as it had done for the past 300 years. That night the shadow cried itself to sleep, as it had done for the past 300 years. Each night since that terrible day 300 years ago, the shadow, cried out of loneliness, despair, and forlornness over the loss of its people, especially its lover. Twyla Titania Layla Oberon, Princess of the Transfiguring Elves, was the last of her kind.

Chapter Four

The wolf stared in consternation at Luna. He couldn't believe what he was seeing. His princess had come back to him. But, to his horror, she ran away from him. Then the reason why hit him like a slap to the face. He was a wolf! The wolf pursued Luna, but when she seemingly disappeared, he started to use his wolf senses to find her.
“Go away!” shouted Luna. Then, Twyla, the “shadow” that followed him everywhere, spoke in his mind, “ Gain her trust; lick her face.”
“Why didn't I think of that!” thought the wolf. He leaped onto Luna, licking her face till she made an effort to push him off, telling him she had had enough. Luna sat there and then suddenly declared, “ I will call you Cloudancer.” The wolf liked the name, since his real name wouldn't befit a wolf. Then he stared into her beautiful crystal blue eyes, speaking to her in his mind, though he knew she wouldn't and couldn't understand him without the stone.
Then she got up and said, “ I have to go now, it's getting late, and my parents will worry about me.”
“That's right,” he thought, her parents would be in a frenzy by now, thinking she'd been carried off, never to return. But when she started to leave, the wolf, now in the frame of mind to never leave her side again, ran after her. She turned to see him and brought her horse to a halt.
“ Aw, I guess you can come,” she said. The wolf hesitated for a moment, not knowing what Twyla would do. Would she let him go? Would she make him stay?
“ It's alright,” echoed Twyla's voice in his mind, “ you may follow your princess, but know, I can't protect you as well in the castle.”
“ Thank you, Twyla. You have helped me a great deal during the past three years.” With that good-bye behind him, he raced after Luna.
“What is that thing?!” asked the queen. Cloudancer hadn't thought about what the queen would say when her daughter brought home a wolf. He'd also had forgotten how beautiful the queen was. With her slender and graceful build, you'd hardly think she'd be strong, yet this queen could go into battle if the occasion required. He also had forgotten how much Luna and her mother looked alike. But, Cloudancer decided to woo the queen the same way he gained Luna's trust before he got spears thrown at him; that is to say, he licked her face. Then to Cloudancer's delight, the queen heartily consented to Luna “keeping” him.
Cloudancer walked down the corridor and up the spiral staircase to her bed chamber, but he did not, however, go unnoticed. Many maids shrieked in surprise that a wolf would be aloud in the castle. But they finally made it to the bed chamber, where the shrieks of maids were all but but gone.
Before Luna took a refreshing bath, she made him a small bed on the floor next to her. She did so begrudgingly, knowing her maids would go into a tizzy-fit if a wolf slept on her bed.
But before his beautiful princess laid her golden head down to rest, she went out onto her balcony and said, “ I miss you, William.”
“I missed you, too,” thought Cloudancer. He wished with all his heart that she could hear him. That she could know that he hadn't died, but had been changed into the creature she had in her bed chamber at that very instance. The wolf Cloudancer, was in fact, her lover, William.

Chapter Five

Luna woke up the next morning to a shining dawn. The sunrise was gorgeous. Just the kind Luna loved. But those kind of sunrises made her heart ache, because she could not share them with William. She turned and saw that Cloudancer was gone.
“ Cloudancer!” she called. “Where are you?!” Suddenly, Cloudancer appeared from the balcony.
“ Were you watching the sunrise?” asked Luna, relieved he hadn't run off. He nodded his head as if to say yes. “ Hold on. I'm going to get changed and we can go riding. Alright?”
Cloudancer and Luna's stomaches both growled loudly at the same time. Luna laughed in amusement. “ I suppose I should get us both some breakfast first, huh?” She giggled again, her laugh sounding like melodic bells. Luna quickly changed into an everyday gown that looked like the sunrise to appease her father, knowing he wouldn't let her keep Cloudancer if she spent all of her time with him. Luna knew she would have to do her lessons in the morning so she could spend the rest of the day out riding.
After breakfast, Luna went to her lessons, but hardly payed any attention, wishing that she could be out riding Angel and learning more about Cloudancer. All of a sudden, a loud shriek came outside the library doorway. Luna got up immediately, ignoring her tutor's warning to stay put, that it could be dangerous. Luna flung open the door and dashed down the hall. She turned a corner to see that a maid had dropped clean laundry because a mouse had scampered across the corridor. She also saw Cloudancer holding that mouse by it's tail.
“ M'lady!” exclaimed the maid. She had an accent that made her a little hard to understand. “You hed betther get back. That wolf is dangerous.”
“ Cloudancer!” said a shocked Luna. “ Put the mouse outside please. Don't kill it, just take it outside.”
“ M'lady, you know this creature?” asked the maid, trembling. Then she remembered her manners, and she curtsied.
“ Yes, he's mine. He was just trying to protect you. He wasn't going to hurt you, or the mouse.”
“ You are a brave soul, M'lady,to be friends with a wolf is beyond my understanding,” said the maid as she curtsied again and picked up the now soiled laundry. “ I'll clean these sheets right away. And I'll have clean rushes put down, M'lady,” she said as she curtsied and walked away.
“Princess!” called Luna's tutor from down the corridor. “Come finish your Elven translations!”
“ I'm coming!” Luna called back. Luna finally finished them around noon, just in time for her mid-day meal. She ate quickly and changed to another riding outfit she had. It was a beautiful red that, when compared with a red rose, the rose paled in comparison. Her dress also had gold stitching and gold thread embroidered in gorgeous leaf like patterns. Her riding cloak was the same, except with a deeper red.
“ Cloudancer!” called Luna. Cloudancer's head perked up at the sound of her voice. “ Let's go!”

Angel galloped fast and hard through the forest. Over night, the forest had turned into a swirling tornado of gold, orange, and red. Luna halted Angel when they reached the clearing where she had first met Cloudancer. The crystal blue pond was now a scarlet red, golden yellow, and fiery orange from the autumn leaves' reflection. The sight was breath taking. Just then, a purple and blue light glowed from the middle of the pond. The world seemed to change from gold and red to purple and blue.
Then a girl emerged from in the center of the pond. She had long black hair, a white dress and a purple sash around her waist. There was fur at the top and bottom of the long silken dress. Some autumn altered leaves floated around her. She had a silver arm-band on her right arm. She wore no shoes and walked on water. She played a harmonious song that was the song from Luna's dream! The girl stopped playing, but the music kept going. Actually, it was more like the echo or hum of the music. The girl stepped forward, blue eyes piercing Luna's heart and mind, reading her her thoughts and feelings.
“ Who, who are you?” she stammered, her eyes as wide as a deer's when facing certain death.
“ I am Twyla.” said the girl. She appeared to be at least 16, but not a day older than 19. “ I have been calling for you. I need you. You need me.” Her voice echoed like the music she had played. Then Twyla noticed Cloudancer for the first time. “ Cloudancer,” Twyla called. “would you like to change back? Would you like your stones?” Luna was puzzled. How did this, this, this, spirit thing know Cloudancer? What stones was she talking about? Then it hit Luna like arrow to the heart. Twyla had her stone. Her stone. The stone that William had given her. Luna's heart immediately rebelled. How had she gotten her hands on her stone? Then Twyla started to explain, as if she knew Luna's thoughts.
“ I know you are upset and hurt. You question me and you are wondering who I am and why I am calling you. I need your help. I am the Princess of the Transfiguring Elves. You have probably never heard of my people. We are a forgotten people. My people were destroyed 300 years ago by the very thing that has your people engaged in a war that you can not win. The Dark Sorcerer. He destroyed my people searching for a hidden power he couldn't have harnessed, even if he wanted too. That power, is inside of me. I need you to help awaken that power within so I can defeat the Dark Sorcerer.”
“Whoa,” thought Luna, this is too much. Luna had so many questions, that her brain couldn't think fast enough to grasp them.
Luna believed her though. Every word lingered, every word mingled with sadness, and hope. Hope in her. Luna felt courage and humility surge through her like a fire, igniting. Then Cloudancer did something Luna didn't expect. He joined Luna on the glistening pond. As soon as Cloudancer touched the water, it seemed as if half the world became orange and gold. His eyes started to glow yellow. Twyla's eyes were also glowing, but ice blue. Twyla cupped her hands, as if she were holding a delicate water lily. A purple and blue light, like the colors on Twyla's “side” of the world and Luna's purple and blue wolf stone appeared. A light also emanated from Cloudancer. His chest started to emit light and a wolf paw shaped, orange, gold, and red stone appeared. Luna gasped, it was William's stone. Luna didn't understand. How could a wolf have his stone? Then the totally unexpected happened. There was a bright flash of white. And Cloudancer disappeared. He was replaced by a human. “William,” breathed Luna. She was totally and completely overwhelmed. She couldn't think, she couldn't breathe. Her William had come home.
