That...offends you?

So I was relaying to my friend a scene I have in mind for a story of mine, in which one character dares someone to kiss the main character. He's explaining the rules of the dare which are, "I don't mean a hi grandma kiss I mean a just got back from Iraq and aint had pussy in two years kinda kiss!"

My friend got offended by that. .-. The reason is because a few days ago there was a soldier from a few towns over who was killed in action and they just brought his body home from Iraq.

.-. Uh, okay. Yeah, that's sad, but I wasn't thinking of that when I was thinking of that scene in the story. I mean Jesus!
So, am I being a cold hearted bitch or is he being too sensitive?

I wouldn't be offended by that. My buddy is going off to Iraq next week and when he gets back that will be the kiss he gives to his wife XD
All responses I would give to friend would be entirely inappropriate, and not reccomended.

Yeah, I was almost like, "Yeah, I heard about that...has nothing to do with mah storeh and I dunt really give two shits are far as that goes."
But I didn't wanna start anything with him, cuz it's a pain in the ass when he gets butthurt over stuff like that. >.e

The only thing that would slightly bother me is the word "pussy" but it's only gross in my mind, and nothing to comment about most of the time. xP

I understand why they'd get offended over that though, but you're not being insensetive. That's just one of the ways people would respond to your story.

And I would suggest changing the line around only because if you intend to get it published, the whole war in Iraq thing won't be current forever. That's just how I go about things when I write though.

Ah, I see. Sorry about that; usually when I discuss this type of thing with people it's for novels and such.

Then the scene is fine. ;p Don't worry about a few people getting upset over it; it happens to everyone.

I wouldn't find it particularly offensive but I guess your friend might just be sensitive to that sort of thing. Maybe they knew the person? Or they might just have been making sure you knew it was a sensitive topic in case you said it to someone else and they were really REALLY offended.

I wouldn't use the term "Aint had no pussy in two years" comment though.
Maybe something a little watered down like "A passionate kiss between a husband and wife that had been separated and want to show each other how much they truly mean to each other by showing them how they feel" or something like that... Not really sure. I know it doesn't have the same sort of effect- Then again, not my story.

Yeah but it could be in the character's personality to be so crude. Believable characters can make a story, and I sure as hell know some crude guys. xD

It's just a character in a made up story, just because the character says something it doesn't mean the author says it. As long as it goes with the character I think it's fine how it is. :3

I think that you didn't say anything wrong because you didn't say anything to directly attack and or offend him. He is completely allowed to be offended. . . However you are given the same rights to say what you said that offended him.

I have to say it sounds like if you had even just said "just got home from war" he still would have been just as offended. It looks more like he was looking for some kinda vent to make it a deal. Its a process some people go through with grieving.

If you had however known that he lost someone in his family or knew of someone that had lost thier life in iraq and you still said that then I would consider you insensitive and him fully justified.

If I was you I would just apologize and move on. . . really he is offended and if he is a friend then say sorry and explain or talk about it and move on. No reason to make it worse.

Personally, Iw ill apologize to a friend even if I don't WANT to because I respect and value the friendship more then me being right or my opinions meaning more then theirs.

I mean, why fight over something so silly?

And depending on the kind of fan fiction and such, that line might work out well. One must think of who is saying the line, what their chara is like and what not. I mean, you wouldnt have someone from the 18th centry saying that, but I can totally see someone from the Potter or Twilight films saying that... Or someone making one of them say that.
