I have a horrible phobia of vomit. It has controlled my life soooo much.... In negative ways and in positive ways. For instance, some negative ways are that I hate carnivals or amusement parks because I'm afriad that the rides will make me or people around me sick; and also I'm frightened of coughing now, because when my cousin was younger, he had this throat problem that would make him cough until he puked.

I have yet to find positive ways my phobia has done for me... XD

But did you know that Emetophobia(fear of vomit) is the FIFTH most common phobia? O.O

I'm quite afraid of many things, especially people. Being in groups of people actually makes me sick with nervousness, and I hate it. If it's people I know, though, then I have no trouble, but I actually skip church, youth group, parties, and tons of other things because it would require human interaction. Also, for some reason, I can never act naturally around people. I think I'm just too scared..I say really weird things (when I talk at all) and I never smile. Of course, there is somehing that scares me much more. I'm terrified of the dark, much more than the natural fear that children feel. I guess it's because I have an overactive imagination, and and so I hallucinate in the dark. I've hoped I would grow out of it, but it only gets worse since as I get older I am exposed to more horrific things. I've given up to this fear, I just don't know what to do. I know how exposure is supposed to help, but it never has. I've tried it many times, it actually just increses my fear. Ah well....*sigh*

Meh...it doesn't bother me enough to care. I just avoid public events and big crowds, but when I must be in such a situation, I cling to whoever's coming with me XD My friends understand...in fact, my best friend and I are not allowed to be seperated Sweat And as long as the power doesn't go out, I'm fine ^_^ I turn on every my light in the house.

I'm afraid of crowds, but my variation of it is that I cannot bear to go into crowded, noisy rooms that have high ceilings; a high ceiling just seems to support noise. Because of this, I avoid being in my school's lunchroom unless it's almost empty. I didn't even realize that this was an issue until the first rainy day that I stayed after school: my school's policy dictates that kids must either wait for rides outside or in the lunchroom. The principal was around and he could see that the thought of waiting in the lunchroom really disturbed me even though there was no logical reason. Well, because I'm a good kid (or at least not a troublemaker), he understood that there was a personal problem and let me stay in the main office.

What I find most frightening (not necessarily as a phobia) is when my friends have anxiety attacks. Oddly enough, both times I can think of are related to Marching Band, both at an away band camp:

During my first year, my roommate turned out to be arachnophobic; I did not realize this beforehand and when I commented on a spider--one of those really small ones that are everywhere--she started screaming uncontrollably. I did my best to calm her and get her out of our room and into the care of some of our friends, but all the same, actually seeing a friend become upset due to a phobia was terrifying in itself.

This past band camp we went to West Virginia (maybe it's best that my first roommate-friend wasn't in band this year--this place was the middle of nowhere and as such, had some really cool spiders; on the night that I'm trying to recount, I even got to watch a big one spinning its web) and one night we were allowed to stay out late and go to a bonfire where we would get to hear the legend of the Moth-man. Well, one of my rookie friends began to have an anxiety attack; she could not bear to be startled--she knew that whatever popped out from outside the bonfire area would be a mere senior, but she was scared to the point that she could not enjoy the prank. She had to be escorted back to the cabins by parents and I went to keep her company; a rush of adrenaline from kids jumping out and saying 'boo!' is not worth more than the happiness of a friend.

Actually, thinking about it now, I'm surprised that both times worked out fine in the end. '^_^

Ugh. Sorry for the Wall o' Text. Why can't I write this much when it's for school? Sweat

I think these are self made phobias and also funny phobias. Actually there is no cause of getting afraid.

I am afraid of heights, deep water, small enclosed spaces(especially if it's stuffed full of people) the dark, needles (not entirely sure about this one), blah blah blah.

I also have a couple of rather unusual or less common phobias.

Mirrors. Sometimes being near a mirror REALLY bothers me. I think it started when someone got the idea into my head that there is no way of telling if your reflection is, well, reflecting you when you look away. This fear is amplified in the dark and I have to keeps towels or sheets over all my mirrors, otherwise I can't sleep and have to keep the lights on and face the mirrors. Even then I get freaked out.

The other one is little dogs with smooshed up faces. I have no problem with wiener dogs or pomeranians. I think it has something to do with the little teeth and the weird face folds. Also the fact that a lot of smaller dogs are pretty much ninjas and you never notice them until it's too late. Hiding on top of chairs usually works.

And also just a note, but I have a way of dealing with my fear of the dark that works sometimes. I have a somewhat vivid imagination and I see weird things too. What I do sometimes is, if I'm really freaked out, I will hide under my blankets and dare whatever is in the dark to come and kill me or whatever in 3-10 seconds (depends how freaked out I am, sometimes I lower the number) and I count to the said number of seconds. After that I usually feel a little bit better. I'm not sure if it would work for everyone, but maybe it works for me because I get a bit angry? Better than being scared I guess Sweat

I have a phobia of getting my vein poked with needles. Like, horribly so. The last time I had blood drawn I nearly had a panic attack; they gave me a stress ball and I had crushed it by the time it was over.
I am fine with needles in general though, like shots and things like that. It's just the thought of having it shoved into my vein, I start to freak out. I think my dad is like that too, haha.
I don't really know of any other phobia though, though I'm sure that isn't the only one.

Oh that sucks >.< I know a lot of people with needle phobias.
I'm not sure if I've ever had a real mental problem with them. Sometimes I after I get a shot/blood taken (small amount for blood tests -I've never donated blood or lost a large amount in any other situation) I get tunnel vision and have to fight passing out a little while afterwards. I don't psych myself out about needles at all. I'm usually thinking about something completely different when it happens. I have low blood pressure so it would make sense if it was just when I get blood taken; but nope. It's balls. Lips are Zipped

I remember one time that I went swimming in Florida. It was in a really clear spring and you could see down. There was this cave below me, and I looked down, and suddenly I could imagine sooo many situations. Freaked me out. Fear of heights, large fish(undead/live, no problem if they aren't alive), fear of pain, fear of falling, fear of drowning, fear of the dark, all came together. And there were alligators and manatees in the area. I'm actually scared to swim with the manatees because they remind me of hippos and hippos are mean suckers.
For needles, I would rather get it than watch someone else get it.
Typically, if I get worked up, I can enter my "meditation state" relatively quickly. Just where I control my breathing and focus on calm. Sometimes too much. It can get really quiet in my head when I do that.
Gah. Spiders. Can't even stand them on tv. If I see one, it's dead.
I'm not too afraid of dogs. I'm imagined punching one in the face, if it attacked me, too many times. I have some vivid daydreams.

Bees. Effing bees. The terror I feel when I hear a buzzing near my ear, especially outdoors in the summer, will generally either freeze me in position, or send me running. I bolt so freaking fast that I leave a little afterimage like in the cartoons. Just...PHROOOM, Oh, there goes Mal.

ahaha. i'm not afraid of bees or wasps, buuuut a while back when i started taking some new medication - one of the side-effects while your body adjusts to it can be to have hallucinations.

guess what i hallucinated?

nothing visual, but a few nights in a row when i tried to sleep, i'd have audio hallucinations of a buzzing sound like an insect flying into my ear. and i do mean INTO my ear. at first i thought it might actually be a mosquito, but proved to myself it wasnt be pulling the duvet around my head and pressing it against my ears, so there was no space for a real insect to get to me. yet the sound of an insect flying towards my ear and away again kept happening.

IT WAS SUPER ANNOYING AND FREAKY. Neutral

okies I'm truly petrified of spiders, cockroaches and bugs in general but more the first two. Especially spiders, they literally scare the pants off of me well not literally but you get my gist. My other half brought in a cicada but I didn't know what it was and he brought it towards me and I couldn't breath I was that scared.
