| If you were a bird
Would you fly to the sun?
Would you sail across the ocean
On feathered wings,
And land amidst the forest
On taloned feet?
Would you pity humans,
And cry out triumphantly?
If I were a bird I would do all this
And more.
I would fly through rainbows
And bathe in pots of gold.
My wings lighter than light,
My beak tougher than diamonds,
I would aid the little chicks
And be the best that I could be.
But to be a bird,
Or to want to be a bird,
Would be to disagree with who you are.
It is to shed your skin for a new one.
To abandon all you know.
Would you choose to be a bird?
Would you choose to be free?
If I could choose...
I would be
Me.
