Its been awhile since i had to buy one for the Battle system.
Can i use my hefty gold axe?
If so, how?

You have to make sure you meet the stat requirements for the axe. To see them, go to the Weaponsmith and hover over the little sword icon on the thumbnail of the item. If you meet the requirements, you can select it from the drop-down list of weapons in battle.
