Mm, I like Paint.NET for its smooth lines XD. But I don't think it does transparency or blurring of any sort, which is a problem D:. Yeah, GIMP is a good alternative if you don't have Photoshop ^_^.

    Yeah, it has transparency.

The only thing is is it can get very annoying when trying to transparentize and image that's, like, black and white or very close in color.

It tends to pull everying in the same shade and hue in when you use the fuzzy select. D<

@ Angel ~ If that happens you need to lower the tollerance of the select tool. It's that number that's preset to 32. Lower means it will select things closer to the colour your click on, with 1 being it will only select that colour, and higher will select a larger range of things. :3

I used GIMP a lot, and MS Paint when I feel like wasting time pixeling ^^ I start using GIMP like 2 years ago because I wanted a better software than Paint but didn't have money to spend on Photoshop and the likes. I usually don't need a lot of complicated features, only layers and some basic resizing/cropping tools, so GIMP works great for me.

I'm also testing Pixia and ProMotion right now to see how they work...

GIMP isn't really like Photoshop in term of how it looks and the shortcuts it uses, but it has the same basic features as Photoshop (layers, filters, etc.). Of course, if you work a lot with one of them, you will probably be confused the first time you use the other, but I really think GIMP is a good alternative if you don't have Photoshop and don't feel like buying it for some reasons. I mean, MS Paint is nice to do pixeling and really simple modifications, but when you want something more powerful, GIMP is a good option.

not buying Photoshop for some reason = the fact that it costs a couple hundred bucks last I checked.

I just orded a wacom tablet ^o^ meaning I think I will be switching to photoshop in the future just because what I am using now wont allow me to fully take advantage of the awesomeness of me wacom.

I dont like gimp for some reason. I used it for a long while but I still hate how confusing it is compaired to photoshop.

Yeah, that was my main reason for not buying it (for CS4, 699$US for normal version, 999$US for the extended one). I had Photoshop a while ago on another computer that was sold to my parents by one of my cousin or a friend of him, but the computer broke down and I have to buy a new one... and since the first one was a MAC and the other was a PC, I couldn't put the old version of Photoshop on it (back when MAC and PC were not compatible)...

lol Wacom is nice, especially if you do a lot of CG ('cause mouse really sucks)... I got one for Christmas, and it's working great ^^ I think it makes a bigger difference than the software you use, 'cause now most CG softwares can work with them, including GIMP ^^

GIMP can be confusing at first, and probably still is if you need to do a lot of things, but since I'm mainly using it to color pictures, it's not that bad... except the first time you use it, you're like "OMG how do I draw lines?". Plus, it's constantly changing, so it should get better someday.

I used gimp for like 2 years before I got a copy of Paintshop pro from a friend. Its a nice program if you ignore that it has a horrible interface.

Ahah, I'm all in it for MS Paint.

I'm not used to Photoshop, honestly.
All the layers and stuff is too confusing for me.

MS Paint is fun, all sketches and stuff~!

I would like to work with Photoshop again.

I use Photoshop CS4 (at home) or CS3 (at school)... I love it! The Adobe Creative Suite seires is one I'd have a really hard time living without. ^^' I got the Design Premium version (with InDesign, Illustrator, Flash, and lots else) for only $350!

I do most of my art traditionally and then scan it into the computer, though.

Yeah, I might buy some Photoshop soon... My parents gave me a pen tablet last Christmas, and there's a deal for people who have it and want to buy Photoshop CS4, something like 50% rebate... Now, if I could only have some money... ^^

I have photoshop 7 I think, which was great when I was doing my media coursework for magazine production and for colouring basically, but I would use it a damnsight more if I had a tablet because I prefer having control and I don't feel that when using the mouse. I also don't really understand how people shade and mix colours etc with that program. I keep trying but just nothing...lol.
