I absolutely loved Avatar. I've watched it two times already. (:
When I got home, I watched this thing about how they filmed the movie. sooo cool.
I didn't love the storyline, though. Kind of just reminded me of the Indians.

ohh, and I don't know why, but I just really like that when they were doing the video logs, you could see the year was like 2150.

I really did like the whole world 'Pandora' itself.
In my opinion they did a great job in showing how everything is linked to each other.
Well... the story was also great but at times very predictable... the trailer spoiled me >_>

Personally, while it was very pretty, the whole scenario was such a disappointment.
Fern Gully + Pocahontas = Avatar.
:T
Blue Smurfy Cats failed to impress me overly much and many of the designs weren't new but had already been done in less-well known books.
The Xanth series had lots of 6 legged critters and Pern had the mind joining thing as well. And those are just two of the ones I can think of off-hand.

Really, while not the worst movie I found it to be a regurgitated mess of ideas that many people thought were amazing... then they saw it in 2D a second and they found it not nearly as amazing.

If a movie doesn't work in 2D for a second viewing there's something wrong.

Of course... this is an old thread I'm ranting in so don't mind my jaded opinions. XD

Sanzos incited the rage I felt whenever I first saw this thread, so now that the hype has died down, I feel safe to state my opinion.

I was unimpressed by the movie. Everyone fangasmed over it because of the artwork, but honestly? Honestly?! It was so shallow. I wasn't attached to the characters or storyline at all; to the point of sheer apathy. That's hard. I usually find at least one character to love or hate, but nope. Nothing. The storyline was nothing spectacular, let alone original. I've seen the same thing again and again in other movies, books, even FAN FICTIONS.

It was Dances with Wolves, except with pretty shit and no emotional fulfillment. Kind of like Twilight to Romeo and Juliet; the target audience was just about five years older in this case. Oh, but Romeo and Juliet sucked too, in my opinion. Can't think of a better comparison, really. They were both cliche storylines made into something modern and pretty, but lost any emotional or political relevance in the process. I go for substance.

*Hugs a Chu* XD Now I don't feel as bad stating my opinion on it.

8c and it's sad, I really wanted to like pretty tree loving cat-creatures.
But I just couldn't. XD

At least we have each other! 8D Even my boyfriend argued with me over this - for days.

The whole cat-creature thing really wouldn't appeal to me in the first place, because while I have no problem with anthros, (is that the right term?) I'm just not a fan. That's probably one reason that I'm so critical about it. Neither does the not-so-complicated message of preserving nature. I prefer more... philosophical things. Or at least things that everyone can relate to, like overcoming hardship (real hardship) through personal power and such. Those stories inspire me. Blue cat people protecting trees? Not so much.

I can't say I hated Avatar, but at the same time, I can't really say I liked it either. I understand people saying the artwork was beautiful, but you know, when I watch a movie, I want something more than beautiful artwork. Otherwise I'll go watch a painting or picture... Jab

I just think it didn't deserved all the attention it got, like Twilight... but meh, I guess I'll never understand mass media and why people like them so much Wink

Thankfully, I only argued with my boss at work about it XDDD

Then I convinced her to to see How to Train Your Dragon, she loved that!

Apparently Cartoon Network is going to make a cartoon out of it.

"On Oct 12 2010, it was announced that Cartoon Network acquired worldwide broadcast rights to a weekly animated series based on the movie."

But yeah, that's derailing the topic, so on a last note:

I'm glad the hype died down. Hopefully the 3D fad goes away too.

PLEASE let the 3D Fad go down... >___< movies are too expensive already AND statistics show that 40% of the US citizens can't ACTUALLY see 3D?
I'm one of them, I can't actually see anything coming off the screen. A lot of people with astigmatism can't though some can.

Honestly, as much as I hate Twilight... xD I can at least make fun of that more, it provides a GREAT drinking game... not that I drink.. of course not... <____< *hides*

Who knows, maybe the animated series will be better, me and my mom LOVE Star Trek the animated series only because it concentrated on more story and characters that Kirk DIDN'T want to bang! xDDD Though, thats funny too. LOL
