| I also think the fact Bella depends so bad on a guy or another (and immediatly falls in love with them or so the moment she realises they are mysterious guys with a dark secret and a overly protective personality) is a little against what feminists are fighting for: it's just like back in times where women were only useful to get children, cook and be kidnapped by the bad guy
It shows to the girls reading it that it is ok to stick to stronger guys and be madly in love with them even if they don't deserve so. Plus the girls that are not "weak humans" in Twilight are stupid or evil and stupid, as if they cannot be cool or something in such a book

That only adds to Bella's mary-sueness. She's so perfect that anyone that isn't like her is stupid, weak, or evil.
I've come to the realization that my major problem with the book is that it overly idolizes men and anything that isn't human. Sure, I don't have much respect for humans in general, but idolizing vampires is kind of pathetic in my opinion. Women try to lose themselves in such fantasies as being the lover of a vampire because they find comfort in the idea that the creature can take care of anything; that they can be absolutely perfect for them yet still have the excitement in a dark past. Honestly such ideas are kind of selfish - you can't have a perfect mixture of reliability and danger despite what vampire romance novels try to tell you.
Twilight is just soft porn for lonely teenage girls.

| Agreed about idilizing vampires is stupid but It sends out a bad message to teenage girls. Woman shouldn't be led to think that without a man they would be suicidal. VERY VERY bad message if you ask me

| Well this is just awful, I almost had soup come out my nose from laughing at this.
I am also...not exactly a fan to say the least. >:] I enjoyed the first book at first when I read it, noticed a few little odd parts but put up with it...by the time I finished the second I looked back and realized that I had just been fed an awfully written piece of sparkly crap. Every word of those reasons that were posted are absolutely true. xD

EXACTLY.
jeez.
i hate it for a number of reasons.
1. I could probably have written it better if i could be bothered. and im sure most people could, actually. Fact is, Meyer CANNOT write. i read 2 pages of New Moon on the official site and it made me furious.
2. This got PUBLISHED?? im almost certain there must have been far better books that actually got TURNED AWAY in favour of this abomination to literature.
3. Some of the fans are terrifying.
4. like Chu said, its soft porn for lonely teen girls. anyone who has been in a relationship with a freak like Edward knows that is NOT someone you would want to be with ever again.
5. On that note, it is idolising abusive manipulative controlling men. that is NOT cool.
6. the ammount of GUYS that have fallen prey to this word-vomit is worrying. i have always preferred guys to girls as friends. Meyer is trying to take my sensible men away from me with this crap >:/
uhh... yea. i could go on. but i think thats it in short? xD

| Have any of you heard about the girl that got pregnant by a guy named Edward, and named her kid some hybrid of the author's, Bella's baby's, and Edward's mother's name from the book? o-0 I forget what their names were so I don't remember the name.
Heheh, I forgot about the bad boyfriend aspect of it. XD
I have a... o-0 "friend" that loves the series, and I'm not afraid to express my dislike of it. xP A guy and I were talking about it one day basically saying "bad boyfriend" "stalker" "poorly written" but she got so upset over it that her eyes were tearing up. He and I were trying so hard not to laugh while she was lecturing us about how good it was!

she just stops and goes "SHUT UP. ANNE RICE KNOWS VAMPIRES. MEYERS VAMPIRES ARE CRAP. LEARN IT."
basically :B i said she shoulda thrown a copy of a decent vampire book at their heads to knock it into their silly little skulllsss~
i have another friend who kept reading it in the cafeteria at college XD i just kept mocking her til she stopped reading it haha. she's alright tho. she knows it sucks, its her guilty pleasure. i can deal with those sorta fans. :B

| Haha, last year in college I had a professor who's specializing in fantasy and he really knows a lot about it. I love that guy, he's awesome. Anyway, one day he told us that he's read "Twilight" and his comment was "They don't pay me enough to read that stuff." XD

| lol I'm only anti - twilight because it's more fun that way, in that I have never read the books and have only ever seen the film so am not really justifyed to make too intense a judgement.
However maybe it's just me, but in the film when Edward is sat there like you need to see me in the light I was expecting him to like walik into it and turn into some sort of black beast with red eyes and huge fangs or something, ripping off his skin a-la Hugh Jackman's Wolfman transformation in Van Helsing. Obviously I was sorely diasappointed. lol
It took me a long time to even figure out that he was sparkling. I think I turned round to my sister and even asked 'why is he just stood there?'
