I thought this was common knowledge?

Isn't that also explained that everyone is like 99% the same in terms of DNA?

Lol @ thinking back to sophomore year.

Not sure about that, though I do remember being told that a good chunk of our DNA is similar (for all the animal kingdom, at least)
Besides, I'm studying for a test and it helps me to empower other forum-goers LOL

Yeah, I remember our bio teacher from HS talking about how our DNA is really close to each other. It's in the 90% range with animals, but with people it's 99% or something.

It's crazy. :U They were like "REMEMBER THAT NEXT TIME YOU TRY TO MAKE FUN OF SOMEONE D<".

Also, I'm so glad this thread isn't about beating down religion. 8}

Now were they talking about genes, or individual amino acids (the things that make up DNA - adenine, guanine, etc)?

And lol@religions.

I have to admit, I find the evidence for evolution more compelling to me by means of physical adaptions. Honestly, you can't say 'no thats not right' when someone shows you a specimen like "Lucy" or the biological similarities between apes and man.

Mostly its because our DNA has a good deal in common with grain. And that doesn't make a good argument that we have evolved. It just says we have all the same basic building parts. Which I guess we do, we all came from that same primortial oooze.

Evolution.
Meh, I think us humans are stuck in evolution.
Our minds seem to grow a lot.
But our physical part is stuff.
We are loosing a finger, we no longer use our nails.
We are becoming less animals. ;[

Evolution = win. Intelligent design = bull. I swear. Dx

I used to be a monkey, whoohoo! I wonder if I flung poo at things.

Laugh

I'm glad that you're learning about science and are interested in the theory of evolution, but there is a LOT more to learn before you should start developing an opinion on the subject. It's an insanely complex theory that goes far beyond nucleic acids. Take what you learned in class and expand on it ^^ Just studying the theory will teach you a ton about science.

I think embryology is pretty cool. Like for an example we all look like a fish when were are really young in the womb, we have gills and everything.
