It's so sad how insects are the target of so much hatred, prejudice, and outright bigotry. To hate such a large segment of the animal kingdom doesn't make much sense to me. It's not as if they have no redeeming qualities. They are, as a collective, far more useful than people from an ecological standpoint. Wipe out all of humanity and nature doesn't miss much. Wipe out all insects? Can we say global collapse of all major ecosystems (and eventually ourselves)? |
I agree with you on this, but I have to admit, its rather natural to hate insects. When you think of it, they are the farthest biological relative to us that is a living and mobile creature. People don't hate rabbits and monkeys, no matter how annoying those things are. They may dislike them, but there is enough substance in them to relate too. They are mammals. Even non mammals are able to provoke empathy and a feeling of closeness. But generally, they are disliked.
Insects are so very different from us, it makes it hard to emphasize. Sure, the Pray Mantis is awesome, but thats because it kills it's mate (something we'd all like to do time from time) and walks on two legs. Not to mention spits.
The more like us animals are, the more we appreciate them.
Does that make any sense?

| I only like certain bugs. Mostly the "pretty" bugs like ladybugs, dragonflies, butterflies, and even moths since to me they are a lot like butterflies. And some harmless and interesting bugs are okay too, like daddy longlegs spiders. But any other kind of spider, no. Anything that stings, no. Anything that is really gross, definitely no. And I really do dislike it when any type of bug gets in the house because I just hate that. If it's one of the "good bugs" I will save it and put it outside. If it's a "bad bug" I kill it. >.<

| I find bugs and other creepy crawlies fascinating.
I mean you've got these amazingly complex creatures that fit in the palm of your hand!
Even the one that are considered pests, like flies and spiders, are still pretty awesome cause they actually serve a really important purpose in our environment.
Why do some of them have to bite me though? TT_TT

Every time I see an insect part of me is grossed out, even if I like them 0.o.. So many legs and strange bodies.. I just have a massive under appreciation for them. Which is sad cause there amazing creatures.

| I hate arachnids. For sure. I dont mind butterflys so much. Or pretty bugs like lady bugs. Spiders though. They always show up in my shower and I run to my boyfriend and tell him to take them out and squish them so that I can take a shower. I feel bad killing them so I make him do it.

| Bugs totally gross me out.
We live in a flatbuilding on the fourth flour and been living here for about a year and a half, and the only bugs that do come in so high, are just regular flies, so thats a good thing.
havent seen a spider here ever, *knocks on wood* when I still lived in a house with my parents I had spiders in my bedroom a lot of times, depriving me from sleep cuz I was afraid there would be more.
When there is one big spider in your room there always is another one, a bigger or smaller one, cuz there always is a male and female. So one time I had a huge spider in my room, and when my dad killed it I went to search, and I had this towel on my wall, and I lifted it, and behind it was. argh ><Anyways><
