Welcome to The Cinema!

This is the place for all you film fans out there to come and discuss!
I will choose a film and write a small review, and then you can natter about it to your heart's content! I'm also happy to take suggestions of movies you'd like to discuss, so just post about it or drop me a PM!

Here it is ok to make silly and fun light-hearted conversation or more serious talk about the moral aspects of films, or how they effect their audiences, talk about whatever you like!

Now Showing: (500) Days of Summer

Them's the Rules!

1. Follow the rules of Midorea!
That sorta goes without saying though, huh?

2. BE OPINIONATED!
You got an opinion, positive or negative? Tell it like it is! You can be negative here, if you dont like something, tell us why!

3. No attacking other users.
Everyone's entitled to their opinion, while structured arguments are something I encourage, no being nasty to eachother.

4. Contribute.
Ok, so it's more a suggestion. If you have an idea for the thread or want to discuss a certain movie, let me know!

Let's kick things off with....

(500) Days of Summer

Year: 2009
Director: Marc Webb
Cast:
Tom Hansen - Joseph Gordon-Levitt
Summer Finn - Zooey Deschanel

Tom believes he will never be truly happy until he meets "The One". When Summer begins working as his bosses' assistant, he knows instantly that she is who he has been looking for. The film follows the highs and lows of the 500 days since Tom meets Summer.

Review

I am not a fan of the romantic-comedy genre, but this is one that stands out as a truly special piece of film-making. Not only does it bring a fresh angle on the genre, it is also a beautifully crafted piece of art. The acting is brilliant, the characters believable, the dialogue incredibely clever and the cinematography unconvential but perfect for the story.

The narrative of the story jumps back and forth on the timeline, but is kept easy to keep track of as every time-jump is accompanied by a quick cut telling us which day out of 500 we are about to experience. Tom is a very endearing character that I believe almost everyone can relate to - especially the sequence in which we are shown his expectations of an evening, and what really happens, side by side. This scene is accompanied by the beautiful voice of Regina Spektor with her song "Hero" (Click to Listen). The split-screen and the music makes for a truly heartbreaking scene that we can all sympathise with.

This film is an emotional rollercoaster, as the highs and lows of Tom's relationship with Summer are explored. Just as some scenes have reduced many to tears, there are plenty of laughs throughout the story, such as when Tom is called to his boss, Vance's office. Unfortunately I can't find a clip of that fantastic scene, so here's a different one! (Click to Watch)

In my opinion, any film that can break your heart and also make you laugh alot is among the best cinema has to offer. (500) Days of Summer has it all and I urge you all to watch it if you haven't already!

now.... Discuss! Smile Have you seen it, or do you plan to? If you have, do you have a favourite scene, line, character? and why? Who do you relate to more, Tom, Summer, or someone else?

Great idea, ecco. Happy

I'm not very big on movies myself, so I probably won't be in here much. Sweat I just wanted to pop in to say hi.

AND I don't like popcorn. Sad It gets stuck in your teeth and really isn't worth it in the end. Now, nachos? Oh, hell yes. I love nachos. <3
