We have a sub-forum for posting it, sure, but there's not actually a place to
discuss the writing process. That kind of bothers me, because not only are
there two separate sub-forums for discussing art and posting it, but if we
can't at least earn silver for posting our writing, (which makes me wonder
why role play deserves it,) we should at least be able to post it for discussion.

That is, unless I'm missing something, and Art Chat can be considered a
place for that? Not that anyone other than us writers seem to consider
writing a form of art, but whatever.

(If I come off as rude, it's only because I'm bitter at being disregarded for
not having a visual or instrumental style. I don't really mean to be brutish.)

I'm a writer too, so I feel your pain.

I'm really not sure where writing could/should be discussed here, so I usually stray away from the topic. If Cat could clear this up for us though I'd be happy to dominate that forum, haha. Happy

EDIT: I would like to clarify that writers definitely aren't being deliberately disregarded though. This is probably a misunderstanding.

It would be awesome if it happened, then we could talk of writing into the
starry night.

But yeah. I'll be sad if there isn't one eventually. I would eventually leave
and not come back without it. (And, in fact, the writing forum was the one
reason I stayed on Gaia so long after I begun to hate it.)

Edit after reading your edit: I know. People are just taught for so long the
differences between writing and 'fine' art. Even if it is horseshit, it's ingrained
into their mind, so they tend to do it automatically even though they're not
intending to.

I'm sure that something can be sorted out.

Regarding the copper issue, the reason that the forum grants copper is basically the same reason that the 1x1 roleplaying and music subforums grant it - the posts take pretty much minimal effort and a lot of space. When you think about it, you could copy and paste entire stories into the forum and get thousands of silver for it. It's basically done to demote abuse. And you could always convert the copper to silver. Wink

Yeah. *sigh* You're actually about to get me ranting. Better stop while you're ahead. xP

Yeah, I hope so.

That makes sense. It would be really easy to just post old stories, or even
post someone else's stories for silver.

Well, ranting won't really help the case, so we better not.

Maybe The Storybook could be turned into a subforum, and an actual forum could be made for the discussion and analysis of literature.

That would make sense, organization wise. I like it. We'll need to hear from
Cat, though.

(As a side note, it feels weird to just start calling the admin Cat. But
whatever, right? Probably wouldn't bother her any.)

I think roleplaying earns you silver whilst your own writing alone doesnt because roleplaying encourages a lot of activity in the forums, that and theres a limit to how much you can do with one post. whereas if you're posting your own original writing, it could just go on and on... which would earn you tooooons, when people may not even want to read it... so like it would give you a lot of currency but without doing much for the forum...

obviously i dont know... im just guessing 8D;
a place to discuss the writing process would be interesting. seeing as i want to get into film/animation, im gonna have to start writing scripts/screenplays at some point, so it could come in handy for lots of different types of writing too!

Actually, the 1x1 role-play forum (or Private role-play now) gives silver now. ^^;
I think the main reason why that forum grants copper is simply because you can make a thread just by yourself (i.e double-posting), thus you don't need to wait for someone to answer before you post something, like it's the case in the role-play forums. This is obviously useful when you're posting a long story and want to split it in manageable-size posts, or just want to share your writings without necessarily getting the opinions of other. However, if the forum granted silver, I'd be afraid people would just spam the forum in order to get more money.

You're right though, there's no real place to discuss the writing process in itself. The Storybook is nice to post any kind of writing, but it's hard to get a real discussion in there.
I love the idea of making the Storybook a sub-forum, inside a larger forum used to discuss writing in general. I'm guessing it could also make that corner of Midorea more active, since it's pretty dead right now...

Yeah, I tried to start something in the Storybook when I first joined, but nobody goes there. A writer's forum wouldn't just be used for talking about the storyline process, but for collaborative writing projects. Not roleplays, per se, but short stories posted on other websites.

I did the Chronicles of Nox way back when Eternal Nox was still around, and it was a wonderful story where the people in the forum were the characters and helped with the story. I posted them in a journal on the website, except for the first two chapters. Those are still on deviantart. I'd love to try that again here, and a writer's forum would be the perfect place to do that.

Yeah, I tried to start a collab. here a while ago... It's still sleeping in the forum somewhere, waiting for someone to post and revive it.
I'd like to make some more projects like that, but it's hard with so little people posting in that forum (and even less taking the time to read what others have posted).

Well private roleplaying used to grant copper because of that reason.

I'll be honest: I'd probably never post in a collaborative story unless I got something pretty good out of it. What I want is actual discussion. A collaborative story would just feel like a roleplay to me.

It wasn't really a roleplay. I was the only one writing it. It was more interactive, as in people would suggest plot points or new characters, and I would add them it.

Ask Arikana about it. Ari was one of the biggest supporters of the Chronicles when it was on Nox.

Well, a collaborative story is writing, just like anything else in the Storybook. Different, and more interactive, but still a simple story.
Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting using the main "discussion about writing" forum to post it, but if such a forum exited and attracted more people to the Storybook (where to actual story would be posted), it would be easier to make collabs.
It would probably also be a greater motivation to writers to discuss their art if they got a clear place to post about it and discuss with others.

But anyway, we all seem to agree on the need for such a forum. Now let's see what Cat thinks... Big Grin
