| So my lovely home state of Vermont had its first confirmed case of the Swine flu. Has your state had any?
In a total for 41 states about 986 cases have been reported and two deaths have resulted from those deaths.
What are your thoughts on all of this flu stuff? Do you think it is a bid deal, should we be worried, are you worried?
Here are some random thoughts on the swine flu by the Center of Disease Control and Prevention. These are some things that I think people need to know about the disease.
The symptoms of seasonal flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. The flu is passed person to person, not by eating infected pig meat. It is not believed, that the flu can be passed by drinking contaminated water, but It would be good to take precautions in areas in Mexico. There is no vaccine available right now to protect against this new H1N1 virus. If you get flu-like signs and you are in a area with documented cases of the swine flu it is recommended that you go to the doctor and avoid contact with other people until the virus passes. There isn't any vaccine at this time and there isn't a cure, just precautions that can be taken like washing hands and staying home when sick.
Just a place to discuss the H1N1 flu and if you think it will be as big a deal we people make it out to be.

| Have there really been deaths in the US? I haven't read that tid-bit.
As of this moment I am unaware of any cases in San Diego, CA. When I was tested for it (because I had a severe cold) at my ship's medical ward, they ere saying there had been no cases here.
It may be a big deal in Mexico, but I do not think it is a big deal here.

| I believe someone died here [Houston]. I think.
Times like these make me wish I didn't live in Houston. :\ But I feel fine and everyone I know feels fine so...here's hoping for speedy development on that vaccine!

| From what I heard the swine flu has also reached my country. (Europe, Netherlands)
I dont think too much about it. We had stuff like this a lot of times. bird flu, mad cow disease, and some other stuff.
Not lots of people talk about it either, its all about the incident here that happened on our queensday where lots of people died cuz some madman drove into the crowd at the parade with his car.

| My state, Indiana, has about 14 or so cases, but no deaths. Many schools are closed until next year just because of it, but I think that the state's government might take back what they said about letting the schools close back and everyone going back to school has to prove that thy don't have the swine flu. Our school thankfully hasn't closed.
Personally, I'm not that worried about it. I generally have issues with people touching me and wash my hands often enough. And no one in my county has it yet.
I'm not too worried about it. I just make sure that I keep updated on how many people in each county has it and look out for deaths.
So many people here think they have it when they only have a cold.

| The Swine Flu is serious, but easily preventable. We've had a couple serious talks about it as a family. The easiest ways to prevent swine flu is to wash your hands 10-12 times a day, and do not touch your face, at all if you can help it. Try not to touch things other people have touched if you can help it.
Back when the Avian Flu was a big deal in Asia, my dad had to go to countries like China and Malasia, and these things worked for him. My mom works in a hospital, so she has to be extra careful, and so do any travelers.
It's a big deal because there is no vaccine, and it spreads very fast. But it shouldn't be a risk to anyone as long as they do these things. Look up ways fighting it. If you do have it, treat it like you would the regular flu.
My state of North Carolina currently has three confirmed cases, and none in my county yet. I hope it can stay that way.

| You see that's the thing, I don't know if I'll ever be certain whether or not I actually HAVE it. I'm usually in a constant state of nasty sickness, but it would make me feel TERRIBLE right?
My friends tell me it's like an extremely terrible flu. >>
EDIT: Just read the post above me. Very informative! (:

| It's mostly got the same symptoms of regular flu, but I've heard it's a little worse.
I can tell whether I'm just feeling nasty and whether or not I have the flu, because the time I did it was awful.
So if you know what regular flu symptoms and feelings are, and have most of them, you might need to be concerned.

| despite the flu coming to my location, I am only slightly nervous about getting it, but I am not horribly upset about it. I mean I wont freak out and have a nervous breakdown like someone people may have during a time like this. I think that if it happens it happens. there is nothing to be done.
It was a big deal at my local hospital however. But it was quite alright right now. It is kinda on teh down low and no one is talking about it any more.

| There are like 14 or 15 cases in Virginia I think. None in central Virginia, where I live... at least according to this article.
I'm not really too concerned about it. Even if I get it, I know how to take care of myself and won't hesitate to go to a doctor so I'm not worried. As long as you take proper care of yourself, you should be able to recover. I mean, don't get me wrong, it would really suck to get it and I definitely don't want to. I haven't had the flu in so long I've kind of forgotten what it feels like... so having it in ultra mode would be miserable. But just washing your hands and stuff can help prevent it, so it's not really on my list of big worries.
I don't see it spreading too much more in the US unless people are really just being inconsiderate and thoughtless.... which is possible/probable. XD

| It's hit TN, though I've only heard of 2 or 3 cases so far. May not even be that many: I don't know if they've gotten the lab results back yet.
I'm not too worried, honestly. I don't think panicking over the situation is going to do any good whatsoever.

| I live in Chula Vista, like 15 minutes away from the border, and i'm not worried.
There has been like 2 cases of it at a high school, but nobody died.I personally think it's just people overreacting over nothing. This girl at my school didn't go to school at all last week, because they heard about the swine flu and her mom exaggerates about everything.
I think everything has been over since Los Angeles talked about it saying there's nothing to be worried about. It was only like last week, now nobody cares, just wash your hands frequently and it's all good :)

| There's been two schools in my area {Brentwood, California} that were shut down because of swine flu. I don't really know much about it, though.
I actually got kicked out of school today 'cause I was sick. Same thing happened to my brother yesterday.
D:
Oh, and, like, everybody over here's afraid to eat pork!
I don't get why.

| Swine flu is nothing but a joke. The only reason we even know about it is because the media just needed another thing to have a fit over.
There's at least one case in Kentucky; I haven't payed any attention. There aren't any cases around me yet, but If I do get it I won't be really worried; I'll just treat it like any other flu. The only reason people are taking it so seriously is because it's a new string of flu. Soon enough a vaccine will be made and the media will just have to find something else to scream at us about.

| I didn't even know that there were any cases in Virginia, but reading this topic, apparently there are. People are going all agro at my school and cleaning things over and over, but I heard it's not even as bad as the regular flu.
